headphones/earphones will save your life in this game because sound is everything
The story for this game was written by Dan Abnett, who writes a ton of Warhammer stuff
And a ton of Marvel comics - he co-created the version of the Guardians of the Galaxy that the MCU made famous.
Playing this in VR with the Alien DLC which stars Sigourney Weaver and basically recreates the end of the first movie...was the single most terrifying experience of my life. For real. It was already scary enough on the monitor. In VR I felt literal terror.
almost had a heart attack playing the regular game jfc you are BRAVE 😂😂😂
I played this in VR - that doesn't help the paranoia!
I love how through all the beginning you kind of wanna see the Xenomorph, like If you know that if you see it you will feel "safe" knowing where it is, and the game plays with that feeling in the most amazing way, after that, you pray the alien doesn't show up 🤣
I had a hard time playing this game at times. Had to take a break every half hour because I was so stressed.
I made the mistake of playing this game in the dead of night I could not stop shivering
It's my favorite game that I've been too terrified to finish.
They really nailed it with this game.
Always be on the lookout for buttons, levers, material... ok, let's just say look out for STUFF! It's hard to find and identify useful things with everything that's going down around you but once you are close enough things that can be used or collected will start to flash orange. Also, these light squares you'll find everywhere on the station, that's not lights but map terminals. Until you know your way around you want to keep your map as up to date as possible. Consider me on board for this entire playthrough. This is the game Alien fans always wanted and the game the fans deserved. Oh, one little side note: Just forget that you are able to run. Forget it. Do NOT run. Not before the situation turns beyond desperate. I can tell you that, it's painful to sit in front of your monitor, watching and yelling at the screen "Are you nuts?! Don't sprint! Get the noise down! Get your head down and move between cover! Otherwise you'll be dead meat in no time!" ;)
Yup. Just consider this game a walking crawling hiding in lockers simulator.
@@paratus04 Lockers can be a good hideout, true. But I've always preferred beds and desks. Why? Because from underneath a bed or a desk you can observe your surroundings and the movement of others in the area way better. Downside is that you have a higher risk of being spotted because in the right position and enough distance your enemies will easily make visual contact.
Half a power bar, 3 smokes, and coffee? That's my normal everyday morning dawg 😂
Oh _hell_ yes. This game is fantastic, and the stress of playing it probably took a month off the back end of my life.
This is not only one of the greatest games ever, but also the third best Alien "film." Perfect atmosphere, music, art direction, great story. Glad you're doing this after seeing the first two films. It's what I wish for everyone who reacts to them.
There's a rumor that somewhere on this game, in a very isolated room, there's an easter egg... of a full grown xeno dancing to "Hello my honey" may the odds be ever in your favor for trying to find said room.... good luck! XD
When they made this game they had access to all original concept art from the movies so they did an exelent job recreating everything seen and unseen from the original movie.
Good news, Grizz! Your first playthrough should only take about 20 hours! BEST OF LUCK!
This was awesome, I feel like I'm not alone playing games like these now, I was freaking out about everything. I remember reading, "you should meet the Zeno within about 90 minutes to 2 hours into the game depending how you play" and looking at my save time and it was like 6 hours in...
Watching this live was one of the most stressful, yet fun experiences I’ve had.
Happy to see you take on this game ... and feeling sorry for you for taking on this game at the same time 😂
You may want to consider turning on the subtitles. You may not particularly _need_ the subtitles, but it could be handy to read up when you're talking over it. Sometimes important information (that at the time sounds unimportant) is verbally conveyed and it'd be seriously useful to notice that info. It may also help when people are whispering or are further away, which can sometimes be a little tricky to hear, or when you come across the audio logs that you'll find every now and then.
*Save*
Something to keep in mind is that the save station gives off a beeping sound. You'd do good to notice that sound and search for it whenever you hear it, because you never know when you encounter the next save station. They're also strategically placed, so whenever there's a save station there's a good chance things will take a turn. Last time right after the save station, you and Axel found a group of people that said "shoot anyone". That's a pretty good example of things taking a turn.
So yes, if there's a save station, make sure to use it. Just ... not when there's something right behind you, ready to kill you. You don't want to load a save when something's behind you immediately after loading the game. Not to mention that even _while_ saving you can still be murdered. A save station (or any terminal) does _not_ pause the game.
Also good to know: the game does _not_ auto-save that often. So if you've skipped saving, you'd better be prepared to do all of that again from your previous save when you die. That can easily take 15 to 30 minutes of gameplay, longer even when things get more tense later on.
*Map*
When you see squares of light, like at 22:07 , those are updates for you map. Those are pretty handy to see how the level looks like and where you can go without having to explore everything yourself. Of course, on "Nightmare mode" the maps are disabled for the player. That's really unfair, so it makes sense that it's called a "Nightmare" mode.
*Items*
Do make sure to take some time to search the floor, boxes and lockers to find items. Especially when it feels 'kinda' safe. For instance, your flashlight runs out pretty rapidly (bottom left corner is the indicator of the battery), but you missed picking up the batteries next to the flashlight and there was another spare set of batteries on the table on the right, once you come out of Axel's man-cave in search for a vent.
The problem is, with the tension of the game you don't _want_ to search for items, but they're important to survive as well. It's a delicate balance of going out of your way to find items or leave them in favor of safety. So if it's 'safe', take your time to scavenge everything.
Thanks, Grizz! 🎮 Interesting to learn more about 'Amanda Ripley'. And since you wondered about what the fear of endless space would be called... probably agoraphobia combined with astrophobia?
This game is great for helping you face your fears. After playing it, I started walking around in real life like I had no worries. Wasn't like some xenomorph was gonna get me at the grocery store. Right? Right!? Oh no...
Moderate to severe claustrophobia? Ohhhh, you in trouble. 😄
*nods*
this is one of the most underrated games
I rememeber playing this when it first came out ... Agreed the art direction, both visual and audio, are top notch they really nailed the atmosphere.
I also appreciate the absolute troll in the options menu of turning your microphone on....for literally the only purpose of making it even harder to stay alive.
I really enjoy taking this Alien journey with you! I enjoy your SW content but I’m loving this journey!
This game worked awesome on the Nintendo Switch. I originally got it on P.S.4. I love how the locations match to the Alien universe. This story continued on other game systems, and comics. I only have the comics, though.
Almost 10 years. I don't know people keep missing the obvious floor vent right next to the generator controls. You got lucky.
Dude...I LOVE that your getting into the "Alien" universe! And now you getting into the greatest Alien video game....dream come true! 😂
Watched the full stream on Twitch, and it really made my last couple of days! Yeah, I really hope you continue, there are so many memorable parts yet to come.
Quick tip for smoother gameplay: Besides lockers, try hiding in file cabinets, under beds, and under tables (you often passed them while searching for a locker). And If you don't want to hide, I would suggest making use of the maxed-out items in your inventory and building some useful tools like flash grenades or noisemakers. For example, use a noisemaker to lure the alien to enemy humans and let it handle them for you, or distract it, allowing you to run freely anywhere undetected for at least half a minute.
Headphones for best experience.
You can actually die in that last moment waiting for the transport thing if you stay there for some time after it arrives
They got their hands on AS MUCH audio files, artwork, designs and world-building scriptwork by the original creators through Century, a lot of the stuff is actual propwork and audio design from the films and they even digitally recreate film methods from the original to achieve the perfect grimy retro-futuristic asthetic.
I was just finished watching your Aliens - Reaction and HAD to come here, because Alien Isolation is one of my All- Time Fav. Games!
So glad you're playing this. One of the best games ever made. It aged me 10 years and I spent most of it hiding in a locker. 😂
I have no idea how you'll survive this lol. A note: when interacting with save points, computers, consoles etc, the game is still live - you can look around. You are never safe 😮😮😮
Commenting so I remember to watch this when I am done work. I am SO happy you're doing this game too. Its scary as BALLS (I do NOT do crushing silence well lol) I hope you love it. and that it scares the crap out of you :)
always up for an alien isolation playthrough! hell yeah
This is going to be a great playthrough and I'm here for it. I also love how rampant you've been about getting involved in this universe.
Of course Burke could have lied about how and when Ripley's daughter died.
Fear of wide open or exposed spaces is called; Agoraphobia.
So hyped for episode 2!
"this game looks good for how old as it is" 💀 damn dude, it's only from 2014
The beauty of PC games is their graphics remain acceptable for longer than consoles, especially when maxed out which usually exceeds the capability of consoles.
If you ever decide they need an upgrade there are Graphics Mods available for 4k Res, Shadow-mapping and other nice tweeks. =)
Niceee. Record more please. This game is the best surv-horror game alongside with "Amnesia: The Dark Descent"
This game is horrifying:) Bring extra diapers:)
Wear your brown pants.
@@arndnaj Yes lol.
One of my favorite games, even as someone who generally isn't a big horror game guy. Always loved the way it perfectly captured the atmosphere and aesthetic of the original movie.
You're not reading the lore in the computers. Half of the world building is there. Sevastopol was already being decommissioned and was a shithole in space before the Alien arrived. The text will help you piece together how did the Alien get to the station.
Everything with a green glowing light is interactable. Switches, doors, computers, panels, drawers, etc. Orange glow = pick up.
i watched the stream live, he did read all the logs. A lot has been cut from the video
Wasn't Lambert navigation? ;)
There is a VR hack for this. I wish I could play it.
@Grizzled Wizard P.S. Am I right in thinking you haven't reacted to 2001 yet? Or have you already seen it?
Love this game - and believe me, you don't need to edit to heavily cos the graphics on here is like watching the film - it's a sweaty ride, enjoy!
Buenazo
Exelente
All you really need is Alien and Aliens. Anything after that just kinda ruins the story. AvP is the one exception I would make as it builds the lore in a way that's actually fun even if the movie has its flaws.
watching all the other movies makes you appreciate the first two even more
I really like the assembly cut of the 3rd movie. I find it a darker kind if thriller than the others. It's more human psychology under extreme stress with an alien thrown in.
Alien-3 is watchable, but barely. As opposed to the first two films, which both of which are franchise establishing classics. Don’t waste your time on the 4th Alien film, unless you like ‘B’ movies. The original Predator film also is a franchise establishing classic, which features Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most convincing acting. Make certain you review it. Also be aware, that there is an Aliens vs. Predators crossover film, which, while not a classic, still has some interesting scenes.
They really captured the Alien(s) look, feel, tension. Cool ass game.
have you played dead by daylight? ripley and the xenomorph are playable characters and i think it would be cool to see you trying it out.
I hate games with jumpscares!
Think you could put on the subtitles?
agoraphobia fe arof big open spaces
Cono
@Grizzled Wizard You probably don't need my advice on how to make videos, but when the time comes, don't cut out the repeated deaths and girlish screams. Too many reactors do that, even though it's what people obviously came to see
You sure she died the company lies you know
You be getting a lot game overs
