i like watching someone who knows what he is doing. I can do a project not knowing what I am doing without learning to do so by someone like in this video.

I remember doing that. The placement of the screw on the hose clamps is important. Check the manual. They can’t interfere with each other or the linkage.

Thank you for the heads up! When I installed them they didnt seem like they would interfere with anything, but I will double check now that youve mentioned it. Thank you for watching!

Also check the exhaust bellows. The Volvo has a wild head gasket. Aluminum meets steel and aluminum looses. That was the biggest issue I had was an aluminum weld and grind flush. The gasket is like mica and grease sandwich. Cost me 50 dollars.

I heard you want it in forward gear in order to line the splines up. Before you remove the outdrive. It makes it easier to install that way you can turn the prop to line up the splines.

Hey thank you for the advice! This is the only time Ive ever had a boat with bellows and I was kinda fumbling my way through it. I will remember that for the future though. Thanks for watching!

The water grounds the boat lol stick a rod in the ground and hook a wire to something metal on the boat and the fridge should kick on.

you didn't need to remove the whole drive to change the bellows. Just remove the upper gearbox is all. From all the rust in the upper hole, the old bellows must have been leaking. Now you're going to need to remove the entire engine so you can get at the bellhousing to change out the 2 sets of bearings on the intermediate shaft. The water that got inside from the leaky bellows has surely washed out the grease therein. Lots of fun buying a used boat that was poorly maintained. I went through this in 1997 when I bought my boat. In my case, it was worse. The driveshaft and intermediate shaft had rusted together, and I had to cut apart using an acetylene torch.

Hey thanks for watching and commenting. Im kinda learning as I go. I have a pontoon style houseboat now that is getting all my attention. I appreciate the advice. Next time I change bellows I will try to do it like you say. Have a good one!

@@zacksrandomprojects9698, There is a book by Seloc I got titled Volvo Penta Stern Drive 1968-1991 Volume one. This is a must-have for these drives. If you just remove the upper gearbox as I do, there are 2 O rings the need be replaced and some cleaning that needs to be done, but its a lot lighter than trying to control the whole drive. The lack of valve and mis-fiting clamps leads me to believe you're not using Volvo Penta parts. Don't cheap it out when it comes to this area of the drive, buy only genuine volvo penta bellows. I've read where these aftermarket parts have failed during the first year of service. And like I said, if that bellows leaks, you need to remove the engine to get at the intermediate shaft bearings. The manufacturer recommends changing out this part yearly. I've been going 3 years between changes with good luck so far for the drive-shaft bellows. The exhaust bellows is not so critical and don't change until obvious signs of rot.
My boat was pretty when I bought it, but it was a mess mechanically and severely neglected. I needed a new engine, rewire the entire 12V system, 120V system had to be repaired as it was wired to make a dead short upon plugging in. It was 3 years of work to get mine going again, but I've enjoyed it for over 20 years now. My health is starting to go, so I think I might only have but a few years left to still have the ability to maintain it.
