Robert Morrison: Spot on! I think that’s one reason I’ve loved it since I bought the album “back in the day”. And the organ just has a way of keeping the story telling going. 👍
Can we take a second to appreciate how good his backing band is? In songs like this one, or "Tangled up in Blue", the band is doing incredible job. The little riffs, percussion, it all adds up to the final song. Which is excellent, as always with Dylan.
@@bieuxyongson You have nice taste. My favorite right now is hard to tell. It would be struggle between the albums released after 2000s (like Tempest, RARW, or Love and Theft), and Another Side of Bob Dylan. Blonde on Blonde is fantastic too. Although, I must admit that Another Side is simply my favorite. Every song on that album is excellent, plus it has more than two killer songs.
Blood on the Tracks is the best album I have ever listened to, by anybody, ever. Thank you to the lad in the record shop in Wolverhampton, around 30 years ago, that recommended it to me.
Blood on the Tracks is one of those albums you might not be able to listen to the same ever again if you try to use it for catharsis during a tough time. This song especially always hits a painful chord, even though it's not one of the more overtly sad songs on the album. There is a feeling of loss and time running out that's very well captured here. Dylan said he wanted to write songs that weren't fixed in time. This might be the best example of it.
I have seen Dylan singing 'My Back Pages' and his voice was awesome. It is in black & white so probably from early 60's. I don't know if I saw it on TV or on RUclips, although I can't find it on RUclips now. There are various versions of him singing this track but on the one I can't find his voice is awesome. His voice was smooth and pure, not gravelly as it became later. Neverless, Dylon is out there on his own.......unique.
@@texetera I had a friend who had a friend that worked for WEA around 1974-75. He gave a "Loss Leader" compilation of artists. Dylan did a cut o Lay Lady Lay, him and an acoustic guitar. Absolutely perfect. Sang from his diaphragm instead of through his nose. Not as much projection, a TINY bit lower, and absolutely crystal clear. They didn't usually do this on the Loss Leaders but he had a second track, equally as clear, but for the life of me I can't remember. I've long regretted leaving over 300 hunks of vinyl behind when I left Oahu in 1979. It also had a phenomenal cut of Bread doing Elton John's "Your Song".
The vivid characters come to life in brilliant lyrics and a carousel-like melody. I wish someone would create a movie script from this song that’s one of Dylan’s best storylines.
A movie would probably get watered down and wouldn't capture the beauty of the song and lyrics. Poetry doesn't transfer well to film. Also, maybe Dylan won't allow it to be made into a movie. He's pretty low-keyed.
_Brownsville Girl_ is another. _Joey,_ _Black Diamond Bay_ & _Isis_ are some of his other songs that'd transfer to film. Even _Frankie Lee & Judas Priest_ would be a great one to flesh out.
This one takes me back to my teen years when the album was first released and getting plenty of air time on my favorite progressive rock station, WQDR, out of Raleigh, NC!

Songs like this are why I consider him a modern-day bard. He tells a story perfectly through music and through subtle wording, and he leaves it up to the listener to draw their own conclusions.
@@ellamcmakin7831 this song could be a great movie. An original. You can see the characters as you listen
Definitely.i could make a tele show with the lines of this song.
My mother (ha! )
gave me many pesos in the Philippines for my 10th birthday 1964. .. warm and loving ,Mom right? I went to the record store and spent every peso on Dylan LPs and I have never looked back.
God bless him for molding me.
Great story. Thanks for sharing
I live for this song and this album. I'm 37 but me and my dad (the best dad in the world) we would always drink and smoke a spliff and chill to this album. Amazing times!!!!! Rest in peace daddy. You taught me what great music is!!!!!!! xxxxxx
Same here but it be the band and Eric Clapton as well.
Wow my brother turned me on to Dylan from Avery early age no one writes like Dylan the master of poetry in our time I doubt there will ever be anyone has good as he in the music industry for a very long time
On no. I thought MY dad was the best dad in the world:)
I was proud of Dylan when he won the Nobel Prize. But later I realized, Dylan is much larger than the that accollade. As an artist, he is on another level!
Absolutely BOB.in my top 5. Has to many master pieces.he sings my life if you know his music.ThanksBOB.❤
yOU DON'T need a video clip. You just picture it in your mind.
Yes, so true.:-)
old school
Nailed it there
Yep
that's right
No chorus, epic story, another Dylan classic, the story flows from the beginning to the end, with a style only Dylan could write.
Robert Morrison: Spot on! I think that’s one reason I’ve loved it since I bought the album “back in the day”. And the organ just has a way of keeping the story telling going. 👍
It is rushed. Needs trimming.
I love this song and probably heard it hundreds of times but for the life of me I can't follow what's going on. And it doesn't matter.
@@AndreSzykier1 Tell Bob that.
I never realized no chorus...I always took the chorus to be when he says "Jack of Hearts"and then the short instrumental.
What a Freakin song, this a story, a movie even, Absolute Perfection of a Musician/Songwriter this man is
One of the best poets that ever lived. A true legend.
im nor as good as dylan but not bad ( trinidad apodaca poet on gppgle)
google
Not one of best, he is the best poet ever.
a cut diamond one of the best no one has ever come close to Bobs talents aint about who's who just fantastic music from 30 years ago
My dad's favourite song, listening now on his 5th anniversary, rest well Michael!
I am pretty sure, in my last seconds on this earth, one or two dylan verses will come to my mind
Yeah me too
A kaleidoscope of spastic imagery and characters from the best writer of the twentieth century
Dylan has always been one of my favorite artists.
This song should be a Movie.
well start writing
Just an Awesome Singer / Songwriter/ POET.
Unbelievably brilliant song....favourite of all time.
Its an amazing example of how Bob can write anything ...its like a movie script
A man of mystery, the jack of hearts. Thank you Bob Dylan for this amazing story.
This song could have been made into a great movie.
True that .
Been saying that for years..
Come on Ron Howard......?!?$##@
Every bloody Western ever made is near the song
One right in the eye for those fools who say he can,t sing!
He is the first and the only one
This song reminds me of my Dad. He passed away last year and i still listen to this song with tears in my eyes. R.I.P Dad😢
Call me "One eyed" But I think all Bob Dylan's songs/stories are Masterpieces. Kind regards from a 72 yr old lady in Australia. Cheers
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
The Jacks of Hearts and Clubs are the only one eyed jacks! The Jack of Hearts is the only suicide jack.
No doubt , My Favorite Artist , I’ve loved Dylan since ‘64
Pure GENIUS!! No scholar, nor academic, could even come close to this man's connection with life!!!
@@J.Universe2342 his material is unparalleled. This tune defines his Excellence.
You mean his connections with the universes.
The greatest album ever, start to finish? (I'm not even that big of a Dylan fan, but darn near every song is a masterpiece.)
My favourite Dylan album, one of a handful of the greatest.
Blood on the tracks is a beautiful album
I about 1.5 miles from the MN studio where the majority of it was done.
Yes
A big Bob Dylan fan and blood on the tracks is the best album in my opinion that he ever had
Best storyteller ever. This song gets better and better
This is the art of storytelling
Did we ever do anything to deserve Bob Dylan. I think sometimes at night.
Kundan Gujar: Probably not but still, he graced us all with his genius.
What a great way to express this. The answer is probably, “No, we didn’t!”
I know I didn't.
who doesn't
This song just chugs along like the red hot masterpiece that it is.
runntum Spot on!
It feels like I am on a train.
Juggernaut
Many of his greatest songs chug along with repetitive rambling music with stunning lyrics ..
SURE DOES.
I can't fathom the genius of this songwriting
This song is basically a master class in songwriting. Gather round everyone, this is how you do it.
My favorite Dylan song. I like to thing he is the jack of hearts. Always winning. Such a cool song.
Can we take a second to appreciate how good his backing band is? In songs like this one, or "Tangled up in Blue", the band is doing incredible job. The little riffs, percussion, it all adds up to the final song. Which is excellent, as always with Dylan.
He has wonderful back ups!!!
After playing drums for this track, the drummer was sent on medical leave for sore arms.
My two favorite songs on my favorite Dylan album.
@@bsnf-5 I will have to check those out. Thanks!
What a song. Every second counts
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here.
Bob telling the story only as he could❤
The master story teller at work .it's like your sitting in a bar in the old west watching as the story unfolds
he is to music what shakesphere was to poetry
Calm down
I think that Bob Dylan is the most genius of the music of the world and ever and for ever, from Curitiba, Brazil, thanks!!!!
When you get Dylan to sing about something he cares to say, he sings. Anyone who says he has a bad voice has never heard him sing.
He has a bad voice... for most songs. His voice perfectly sooths his own songs.
Fantastic album love just as much as when I first heard it
I have seen Dylan singing 'My Back Pages' and his voice was awesome.
Bob's songs sung by any other are not the same...
BOB DYLAN IS A GIFTED MUSICIAN AND POET. EXTREMELY TALENTED WITH LYRICS . HE IS SET APART FROM OTHER MUSICIANS WITH UNIQUENESS !
Love this one
The vivid characters come to life in brilliant lyrics and a carousel-like melody. I wish someone would create a movie script from this song that’s one of Dylan’s best storylines.
A movie would probably get watered down and wouldn't capture the beauty of the song and lyrics. Poetry doesn't transfer well to film. Also, maybe Dylan won't allow it to be made into a movie. He's pretty low-keyed.
I always have thought that also - I see it when he sings it
_Brownsville Girl_ is another. _Joey,_ _Black Diamond Bay_ & _Isis_ are some of his other songs that'd transfer to film. Even _Frankie Lee & Judas Priest_ would be a great one to flesh out.
there is a movie script. you have to go to Ohio State University to read it. not allowed to copy it. don't know why. never read it myself.
I fucking love this song. He's such a great story teller.
This one takes me back to my teen years when the album was first released and getting plenty of air time on my favorite progressive rock station, WQDR, out of Raleigh, NC!
Bob's wit and humor is unmatched !! Yes the story and characters are like people you know almost but it's also hilarious !! one of my favorite songs without a doubt
One of my absolute favorites ❤
A masterpiece.
That’s an understatement
Flows like a screenplay.

My favorite Bob song is Tom Thumb.
Such another fine piece of theater from Bob.
Blood on the Tracks is simple genius set to music. You can see every image of this song, the colors, the characters, the feelings. Only Bob Dylan gets this exactly right every time.
@bmisenta 💯
Best song ever written
Uncle Bob doing what nobody could do, write a most brilliant song which is a story, a film and a rocking great tune, my old cousin from way back in time Willie Sheakspear would
have got on great with Bob, he would have looked on Bob like a twin brother
"Has your luck run out on you"? Priceless
Had the album on cassette, listened to it on my trips back and forth to work in my 1979 Datsun 210. Good old times.
I started listening to Bob Dylan & Joan Baez in early 60's. Went to a concert in Raleigh, NC (1963) that Baez was headlining. Didn't know that Dylan was going to be there. He blew my mind with his creativity. Blowing in the Wind, Mr Tambourine Man, Like a Rolling Stone, etc. That's why he won the Nobel Prize.
I like this narration accompaned by a merry and rythmical music.
Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
Here we are on Aug 13 2023 listening to Bob Dylan and he's still alive to accept our praise ... but time is marching on and it waits for no-one ... having just lost one of his band mates Robbie Robertson it should make us aware that we will soon lose the luminaries that have established "The Golden Age of Popular Music" ...
Some musicians and luminaries live forever🎉🎉🎉Just saying🎉
From his greatest album a masterpiece...
Yes I can't stop listening to it.
Complex wild west storylines presented fast-paced in square dance mode..very innovative
the ultimate storyteller in verse.. what a legend of the age.
What a story teller
Ain’t nothin about like it anymore
Dylan got the idea for the song from an old bgrade cowboy movie he even used the characters names from the film
