🏠🏠...I had noticed the two different home addresses in Gwen's dreams.
In Gwen's first vision, Finney is yelling "Help" while pushing himself at the door, trying to get out of a home with *1242 (or something like that)* as the address. The Grabber's brother's "detective work" can be seen in the backdrop as Finn bangs/pushes at the door.
When Gwen is "with" Vance Hopper in the back of the police car, the car takes them to a 7741 address ( _leafless tree in the yard)._
    42:14 = 1242 (or so) 🏠
    1:14:43 = 7741 🏠

The song played during the credits is a song written n performed by Anton Newcombe.

Good book adaptation by Derrickson and Cargill. They're at their best, doing their thing. The Black Phone was written by Joe Hill (Locke & Key, Horns) the son of Stephen King. Good horror runs in the veins of that family.

I dont know its just that nothing surprised me in this movie, and the child actors were great by the way, it was just predictable and I wasn't fully invested. There were some intense scenes but there wasn't anything that stuck with me, it just seemed average. The main villain didn't have back story, the brother was on meth trying to figure out his brother was the killer while he was torturing his victims in the same house somehow, the dads acting just didn't convince me, and the message I guess was to not get in the car with strangers. And to be force sensitive. I dont know it was just average with some decent jump scares and a villain who wasn't scary in the slightest and I like ethan hawk too.

I originally wasn't interested in this as everything seemed so generic but it's got so much praise I'm really looking forward to it. Gives me Hounds of Love vibes which is a disturbing little Aussie movie from a few years back.

Funny you mentioned you read Misery in 5th grade. I remember my friend in 5th grade carrying that book around school. And telling us about the torture scene.

Thanks! I was sold on this movie months ago, and most reviews have been positive and I'm truly looking forward to seeing this tomorrow! I've always been an Ethan Hawke fan, but these last couple of years I've come to value him more. He rarely turns in a bad performance, and I have really been appreciating him more recently! I'm somewhat lukewarm on Joe Hill as a writer, some good some not so good. But overall, I think of him favorably, for whatever that's worth. And Scott Derrikson! Sinister is one that I don't think I quite appreciated enough when I saw it in a theater. I grew to like that MUCH more as years went on. He's quite good, and it's cool to see him team up with Hawke again. I'm kinda pumped! Thanks James!

    This movie was NOT horror.
If you want a pre teen Twilight dubbed down todays kiddie adapted horror? This is it.
Not scary at all for grown adults. No way.

Thanks James for this review. Seems rather ironic. Is it scary is the perfect question.

Good review, James. And I am always up for a good solid stand alone horror film. I have read some of Joe Hill's books, and he's a very good horror writer. Not in the league of his father, but no one else is either.

I felt embarrassed whenever Hawke was doing his schtick in the trailer. Generic, Hollywood acting class psycho. The head tilt, the voice. Ruinous.
