I binged watch all three episodes. It was very binge worthy ! Usually crime movies are focused on finding out who is the killer but Defending Jacob does a very good job showcasing psychological impact of the crime on the family. Can't wait for next episode!

200% AGREE this series should have been bingeable. Before each new episode I rewatch the previous one (not a bad idea). It’s one of my favorite shows, period. I also compared it to Broadchurch, we need more TOP quality mysteries as the bar has been set.
it's very much like before and after (1995) which was also based on a book with edward furlong liam neeson and meryl streep. furlong was good with what he was given and martell is clearly a star.
The fourth episode came available today and I’m so glad I started watching it last weekend. I became hooked from the very first moment. It’s really a terrific show so far, and I’m very happy to hear it will be having a satisfying conclusion (because honestly that’s the thing I was afraid of the most: an unsatisfactory ending). Great review, and very glad to see a channel putting this show in the spotlight, as it definitely deserves it. Now the waiting starts for the last four episodes....groan....lol 😂
Since it's an adaptation I'm willing to give this one to you regarding binge releases, but for original works your argument that you can just watch it at your own pace is totally backwards. You can do that at the end of a season, anyway, but you can not create for yourself the exciting suspense of weekly releases of _having to_ wait, and on top of that the ability to engage with the community (or at the proverbial watercooler) by exchanging theories is reduced tremendously.
In an interview Jaeden told that tge director said to him that Jaeden himself can decide if Jacob did that or not. So may be whatever way this character is described came from Jaeden's pov?? Idk , i hv wathched only 1st 3 episodes.

i remember seeing your review last year and now that i'm suscribed to apple tv+ just finished watching it this evening. i'm absolutely mesmerized by the cinematography, the acting and the intricately woven mystery. i found myself hating and understanding jacob as well as the Barbers. bravo to this show. so happy with my suscription.
To me it’s just fine. It’s definitely entertaining enough for me to want to know how it ends so I’ll watch the whole season. But something seems a little bit off. I think it’s the relationship between the family members. It just came off as a little awkward sometimes to me. More so the father son relationship than the mother son or husband and wife relationship. Maybe I just don’t totally buy Chris Evans as the dad of a teenager? Idk. Some of the scenes had these lingering looks that went on a little too long. But overall not bad. I think Michelle Dockery has the strongest performance so far (first 3 eps).
I watched the first two episodes last night, started the third, but almost fell asleep so because I wanted to enjoy it, I waited until this morning. Plots a little basic and slow but yeah I do enjoy this show. I wish I could’ve finished it this morning... but alas, all good things come to those who wait.

See the great thing about Defending Jacob is even if you binge watch it, there’s still a lot to discuss because of the ambiguity of the ending. Even if you get something’ spoiled, you still have to watch it through to the end because the outcome is entirely up to you.

Reading books is like exercise. You can definitely read a book in 8 hours (especially books that are less than 500 pages), you just build up to speed reading. I actually read this book in half a day so interested in seeing this series. Shadow of A Doubt is one of my favorite Hitchcock films :)
In general I don't binge most shows because I like the idea of having something to look forward to each week. So I tend to watch a few episodes on Netflx and forget about them as I keep up with shows that post weekly.
About bingeable versus weekly content.. I really think it depends on the TV show; event shows should be weekly, specially ones with big budgets or built in fanbases. If it can trend weekly, make it weekly. Clone Wars, Mandalorian, Westworld and Better Call Saul are great examples. But smaller shows and specially really light or gritty ones shouldn't have a problem going all 9it in one weekend.
Ending on cliffhangers means guaranteed you'll tune in if you like the show, binging model is very recent in relative terms and the weekly model makes it an appointment sort of, make an evening of it, kinda like a movie watch.. I like dropping in every week to see Harley and her crews shenanigans even if it's 23min long, just the appointment esque feeling makes me wanna look forward to it, and plus virtual water cooler Convos!
3 episodes in, they've found the knife in the park but have not mentioned anything that can pin to jacob. so far they only have his fingerprint on the dead boy's shirt. is that enough to charge him with 1st degree murder?
Finally blasted through this after signing up to Apple TV so I can blitz their content before going to HBO. Thank goodness I can binge this months later . Watched over two days and it was fantastic.
It is a very good serie but drags a little slow at moments and the fact you have to wait 1 week for the next EP. It makes it loose momentum and interest, at least for me.

Totally agree with you on Apple TV not letting us binge this! I was willing to buy it instead of waiting because I could not help but look up the plot from the books because it’s juicy and would have loved to have watched it. People will not be hooked enough to wait the several weeks before all episodes are released!

Hey Grace, I think you're ahead of the Curve when it comes to Defending Jacob. When you did this review it was at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, it's at 71%. I think people are discovering the show as more episodes come out and their opinions of it are changing. You said it yourself that it starts out like a run-of-the-mill murder mystery before getting a lot better. I think more and more critics, and audiences are starting to discover it the longer it goes on. Just thought I'd let you know 👍
Hey Grace will you ever watch Money Heist on Netflix and do a review....it was one of the best thriller series i have ever watched on TV in decade...and although it has four seasons it essentially two seasons divided in four...and it is glorious and more people need to watch it....i am amazed that you didnt review this show given that Money Heist is 4th most streamed show globally after stranger things,witcher and umbrella academy and believe me because i am talking to you about a spanish series from India where this series is fucking HUGE!!.....i really really want you to watch this show
When talking about Harrison Ford having 3 career-defining roles, is it fair to say that he hasn't been able to "escape them"? I mean, the mere fact that he has 3 of them instead of just one means that he isn't a one hit wonder, that he was successful in "escaping" the role that gave shape to his career, which was as Han Solo. If anything, having 3 super iconic characters in your resume means that you were able to diversify your career in an extremely successful manner (even if the 3 characters are pulp-related, the franchises themselves are very different from one another).
With this series and Knives Out, I think Chris Evans will definitely rise up on his career post-MCU

I'm like you Grace except I binged the entire show in 1 night had no intentions but i couldn't stop and it was unexpectedly AMAZING!!!! Til the last episode at least.... It was so strong all the way to the end and it just didn't stick the landing for me. But overall very strong Jaeden Martell is fuckin amazing, the entire cast was amazing..Great review as always!!! I'm still wondering if he did it...
Do you have any info about black adam mam?I don't think it can start shooting in July due to lack of sufficient testing of COVID19.I also don't think it can make its release date.Also I believe Godzilla v kong should move to mid or late November,2021 cause I think its likely no theatres will open in 2020.

Hey Grace, I think you're ahead of the Curve when it comes to Defending Jacob. When you did this review it was at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, it's at 71%. I think people are discovering the show as more episodes come out and their opinions of it are changing. You said it yourself that it starts out like a run-of-the-mill murder mystery before getting a lot better. I think more and more critics, and audiences are starting to discover it the longer it goes on. Just thought I'd let you know 👍

Hey Grace will you ever watch Money Heist on Netflix and do a review....it was one of the best thriller series i have ever watched on TV in decade...and although it has four seasons it essentially two seasons divided in four...and it is glorious and more people need to watch it....i am amazed that you didnt review this show given that Money Heist is 4th most streamed show globally after stranger things,witcher and umbrella academy and believe me because i am talking to you about a spanish series from India where this series is fucking HUGE!!.....i really really want you to watch this show

When talking about Harrison Ford having 3 career-defining roles, is it fair to say that he hasn't been able to "escape them"? I mean, the mere fact that he has 3 of them instead of just one means that he isn't a one hit wonder, that he was successful in "escaping" the role that gave shape to his career, which was as Han Solo. If anything, having 3 super iconic characters in your resume means that you were able to diversify your career in an extremely successful manner (even if the 3 characters are pulp-related, the franchises themselves are very different from one another).
Han Solo and Indiana Jones are the same character. Both are guys running from Nazis and running around fortressess in a comedic manner
