      Yes finally someone said it, along with this, stranger things and a very few series, I'm sick of seeing adults (25-30) acting as teenagers (13 reasons why, riverdale...) but do people seriously send nudes and do BJ at 14 in America cause that sounds weird but I won't not believe if it's true. (I'm 18 and my high school doesn't do these things, at least the majority that I know)

    I never got that she lost her memory. She SAYS that she dosen’’t remember, but I doubt that. To protect herself she says: ”What if he wakes up and belives I did it to hurt him.” It’s a show about lies. Every member of the familiy lies and it is what destroyes them.

      She doesn't remember. It's all about roles and the "I'd do anything for my son". Even with everyone having lied at some point.
      Jacob: Is the big enigma
      Father: Who despises his father for what he did and who he is, ends up letting crimes and lies pass just to keep his family together.
      Mother: Is the only character that shows regret and guilt. She can't live with the worry and even goes to check on the other kid's mother. If she did remember she'd try to kill her son again because she can't live with the question of if her son is a murderer or not. A question she'll never have answered.
      She did lose her memory, the thing is the father I'm pretty sure knows what really happened since he called her many times before the crash. And he doesn't tell her, letting her live without such knowledge. Chris' character is all about that, the same he did with the hitman he's doing it again with her wife. Shutting up and let it all be like before. Which in the end makes him closer to what his father is. (I'm fine with murder and attempted murder if it brings my family together)

    • @CorbCorbin
      @CorbCorbin 4 года назад +11

      Spookylicious
      The series leaves the burden on him, and her just going along with the lie...again.
      I thought if they had at least shown someone responsible for Ben’s murder, then the two of them being uncertain, and living in a lie would’ve been more tragic.
      I don’t mind when an adaptation changes the ending, but this one needed a better one, as it could’ve focused more on how everyone is so hard up for “justice,” that they don’t care about there not being enough evidence, or that there were multiple exculpatory loose ends, that needed tying before a 1st degree murder charge was justified.
      Regardless of Jacob’s guilt or innocence, the prosecutor just zoned in on one suspect, and disregards even looking at other suspects.
      This is where the criminal justice system is a failure, and it’s flaws often get innocent people convicted, or there lives ruined even if exonerated.
      The media’s detestable flip flopping, stating that the boy showed signs of a killer, no matter what one does. Then, as soon as he’s exonerated, they’re at the house yelling to “smile! You deserve it!” As if they care, and hadn’t been feeding off the tragedy, by making a spectacle, and no one truly gets justice in those scenarios.

    This series shot in my home town of Natick MA. The Ice Cream Parlor and Park Scene sometime in ep 6 I believe. I had met Chris Evans at a Dog park a year earlier. Super down to earth guy we had a great talk. I am visiting the set after school and he instantly recognizes me. We had a great talk about the Patriots and Marvel and other things and he actually stopped people from telling him to get ready to talk to me. Maybe the most genuine person I've ever met. • @Andrew-fq7pu
      @Andrew-fq7pu 4 года назад +6

      No. It could've been, but there were no moral tales. The homicidal grandfather was protecting family regardless of the truth, the homicidal mother went full evil and was out to kill her son regardless of the truth, yet the only thing that should've mattered was the truth, which we never even got close to.
      Maybe the point of the show is how evil is all that happens when you act on feelings in the absence of demonstrable truth and how damaging that is to individuals and society, and that learning to accept uncertainty is one of life's hardest lessons; but they never really did anything with that either.
      In the end, it was just a waste of 8 episodes that ultimately achieved nothing, other than demonstrating that while Andy was worrying about protecting his son from the system, his grandfather and unhinged members of the community rushing to judgement while he pursued the truth, the only thing he really needed to protect him from was the cowardice & insanity of his own mother.

    Honestly I loved the show! However on the last episode this is my theory I feel the mum was beyond breaking point and she obviously crashed the car on purpose due to the fact she was so torn and distraught by thinking her son did this. But truly I think the mom didn’t think they would of both survived the crash but when she realised she and her son were still alive she had then panicked and made up a cover story to tell her husband that it was an ‘accident’ so she would not be charged for trying to murder her son. Plus it kinda makes sense why she crashed the car because she had nothing to loose as she was already at breaking point thinking her son had killed Ben. Plus she probably did mean to kill her son due to the fact jacobs photo album was in the rubbish. But yeh I think the mum thought they would of both died from the crash but her plan had backfired so she made a cover story to save her self from attempted murder. Thanks for reading this lol x

      Totally agree, she failed the murder-suicide attempt and then tried to save herself, and her marriage, after an act of impulsivity. The biological psychologist never told the family about the gene that the mother passed down to her son... which begs the question, maybe she and him are alike as murders who act on rage/impulsivity and then suffer from some memory loss after. Jacob did show a great lack of empathy after all.

    SPOILERS AHEAD
    In the book, Hope is found dead and both Laurie and Jacob die in the car crash. You really understand how much stress Laurie was facing and the guilt she felt as a mother for basically having raised a potential serial killer. Feeling like she almost had a hand in the murders as well. It was a fitting ending to this mystery that was left for audience interpretation. The show’s ending was lazy and I hope they don’t potentially ruin this series because they will be working without the assistance of the source material that made it so great.

    Anybody ever notice that Chris's shirt is almost always black in the thumbnails, but in the video he has the cool t-shirts?

    • @Senefra
      @Senefra 4 года назад +4

      1) Making the t-shirt black not only pulls focus away from the t-shirt's design & draws attention to the subject matter & the reviewer of said subject matter, but it also leaves room for the subject's title to be displayed without overcrowding the thumbnail. Nothing wrong with it being in the video if it's not featured blatantly/prominently though.
      2) If the design is in the thumbnail, chances are that it might be seen as an inadvertent advertisement for the manufacturer of the t-shirt, who may not want to have associations with the reviewer if they disagree with with them and/or the contents of their video. The video might also conflict with said manufacturer's brand &\and/or credo, as it might lead to situations like demonetization or even lawsuits. Better safe than sorry.

    Would’ve been happier with the finale if either Jacob or his mom died, or both. Still, the ambiguous ending is way better than a solid answer. Telling us straight up who did it would’ve felt like an even bigger cop out and the ending is supposed to reveal more about Andy as a character rather than provide answers.

    • @UrbanDecayLova247
      @UrbanDecayLova247 4 года назад

      Agreed, I would've preferred someone died from the car crash...but I don't see an issue with not flat out saying if Jacob did it or not. Andy & Laurie will never really know and I think that's where they wanted the audience. Decide for yourself.

    • @fong03
      @fong03 4 года назад +2

      After reading how the book handled the ending, I am even more disappointed with the show. Part of me was hoping for a "Sharp Objects" final scene where we see exactly what happened, but I would have been fine with some ambiguity if the Mexico scenes had played out how they did in the book. You invest 7 hours in the show and you want an answer, but more than that I need Laurie's actions to be a little more believable. The book gave her more justification for doing what she did.

    • @TVgamesandvids
      @TVgamesandvids 4 года назад

      Goldberg Brian it’s not about solving a mystery. The reveal is intended to be unsatisfying, just as it is to the characters. Whether or not it was Jacob, if the murderer was revealed, either Jacob is charged or he’s exonerated and their family lives happily ever after. The whole journey would be pointless and cliche. The drama of the show comes from Lauries doubt and Andy’s bias unconditional faith in Jacob which are both put in question by the end.

    SPOILER ALERT FOR THE SERIES AND BOOK!
    They changed the ending of the book in the series, and it felt so underwhelming. Basically, when Hope went missing she later was found dead, and Laurie found blood on Jacob's bath suit and she was convinced that her son killed her and his classmate before, later she crashed the car killing Jacob.
    Idk why they changed it, maybe to surprise the book readers, and I was surprised and let down too, this ending is bland and it sucks.

    • @jacksauce3025
      @jacksauce3025 4 года назад +10

      I disagree. I think the decision to keep hope alive redirects the reader into thinking maybe Jacob IS innocent and maybe he didn’t kill Ben. This also sparks an interesting dynamic in Lauries mind. I also think that keeping Jacob alive creates potential for a 2nd season and builds excitement to wonderif Jacob remembers what happened and if he can tell somewhat what really happens in that car. I think bland is not a good way to describe an ending like this

      SPOILERS
      I did review the book and yes, that part with Hope was changed. Idk if it would’ve made THAT much of a difference. Plus in the book, Jacob dies. That would’ve made it more meaningful than if he was still alive. Now he’s on life support, but still. I thought the show was very good, but they used the book as source material and the ending would have not changed much, making it very ambiguous like Chris said. Art wise, you could look into the themes about the movie which are the bigger point I guess. “B” is a fair review IMO.

    I wasn't really bothered by the finale, I knew something was going to happen, was just a little unsure of what or how and it left me suspended the entire final episode constantly making me feel unsettled, I loved the whole Mexico part, the last couple minutes of them back home after Mexico felt a little weird but I honestly felt like it didn't really matter. Whether or not the car crash happened, that family would have been a mess. I kind of wish there was a bit more of a confrontation of telling the son how Patz really died but honestly I feel like this is a show that would have been nearly impossible to wrap up super cleanly.

    Michelle Dockery was incredible. Chris Evans also. I loved this show, it dragged at first but then it was superb, well shot, well directed, terrific acting, if anything I'd have loved to have seen what happened to them. I loved the ambiguity. What I would critique is in the episodes around when he was first arrested i'd have loved to have focused more on the case and the evidence, to help the audience draw their own conclusions along with the ambiguity, it would have raised more debate and drawn more interest. I've learned that Dockery is one of the best actresses around, however.

    Here are my 2 crazy theories
    1-first theory, the mother is pretending to have lost memories of the accident and is trying to protect herself, and that Jacob did really kill Ben, and that the 'murder gene' was actually something he inherited from his mother, as the doctor said it was transferred from the mother's genes to the kid. The mother knews she had it in her so she wasn't able to live with the guilt of having brought her son to the world and decided to take both their lives
    2- second theory, is that Jacob is innocent, the real killer is Ben's father, as Ben found out that he was having an affair with 'laura's best friend' (the one that abonned her), because we seen the father having a lot of weird emotional looks and sensation at trail and went crazy when Jacob was about to come clean. Also the last seen of the show showing Andy (knowing what his wife has done and lying about it and hiding it) was exactly like the one of Ben's father, to show that these two went through the same thing (lies, guilt..)

    The things that happened in the final episode, that was in the book. Only difference is that in the book, Jacob did actually kill the girl on the beach, and Laurie killed Jacob. So while it would've been more fulfilling to have a more traditional win by the family at the end, they did follow the book for the most part.

  • @houston-coley

    I thought the finale was pretty much perfect. The criminal trial was never really the point of the show; seeing Chris Evans’ character’s absolute certainty and his wife’s total lack of certainty, wondering how a life can be built on something you fundamentally can never know...that was fascinating. I loved that the ending was entirely unsatisfying. Hell, having Jacob and his mom die in a car accident would’ve been a cleaner way to wrap it up. But the fact that they survive and have to keep living their lives buried in doubt and deception - that’s a truly torturous finale.

    SPOILERS The reason you liked the show but not the ending is because the producers changed it to allow for the possibility of a second season. In the book, Hope (the girl Jacob befriends in the end) actually turns up dead and Jacob's mother finds blood stains in his clothes, confirming for her that he is a killer. Then she actually kills him in the car crash. In the show, they kept the girl alive to make it more ambiguous, but now the result is that the whole Mexico trip sequence seems kind of pointless. And they kept Jacob alive as well, which of course made the ending less impactful.

    The reason we didn’t know if he did or didn’t commit the murder is because it’s suppose to represent the same thing the book did, it’s suppose to leave the audience to assume by their own thoughts what they think about Jacob, neither the show or book reveal if he did or didn’t do it, I read the book and was excited when I heard there was going to be a show about it and had high expectations once I heard Chris Evans was starring in it. I thought the show was great, in my opinion

    as aware24 said: "The show ended the way that Chris Evans' character was left feeling, empty." (I'd add feeling lost and stuck). "In that sense, the show succeeded."
    The show also shows that Chris Evans's character is able to be both a good man (doing the right thing, protecting his wife) and a good father (defending his son). He protected his wife and son in several ways until the end.
