    Had a similar incident happen to me back in November of 2016 when a barge ran me and my cousin over while perchin on Lake Erie. They have yet to file any charges against the million/billion dollar corporations involved for their negligence. Things are starting to shake loose. Glad everyone is OK on your boat but my cousin didn't make it.Your video gave me some flash backs.

    Sue their asses. I pray you win. I am an ER nurse and worked in New Smyrna Beach Florida. We had a horrific case of a boat accident a few years ago. People dont realize the dangers. You got this ...and thank God you lived. I have seen people die.

      Great situational awareness by the fishermen on the boat. This is how accidents are avoided. We cannot do anything about idiots, but we can be situationally aware.

    "According to a report by the local sheriff’s department, drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor, but Larsen was cited and released for “Reckless Operation, 3 counts of Recklessly Endangering and 3 counts of Assault in the 4th degree.”
    Larsen told The Oregonian the accusation against him was “fake news.” He pleaded not guilty to the charges and said the lawsuit was unnecessary because no one was seriously hurt. His son-in-law, who was also on the boat at the time of the accident, told investigators he warned Larsen to pay attention and that he’d been using his cellphone off and on all morning"

    Take his boating license for 5-10 years and fine him heavily. He's lucky no one died, and this arrogant prick is going to actually say it was no big deal because no one got hurt. Especially while his son in law told investigators that he warned him to pay attention to his surroundings. Hit him in his pockets and take his license, he'll feel that.

    This is seriously tragic, but most of all preventable - and it's great that everyone made it out okay.
    I don't know the openwater regulations in Oregon, but I'm glad to hear one of the victims acknowledged that he wasn't wearing a lifejacket when the accident occurred.
    My first thought after seeing the original video was 'How did this happen??'
    My second thought was 'Were any of them wearing PFDs?'

    I just seen the short video on Facebook and I bawled my eyes out watching and thinking you all didn’t make it. I’m just so glad you guys survived this. I’m praising God! It tears at my heartstrings to see stuff like this and then have to search to find out if everyone survived un-injured. I’m so tender hearted to a fault. I don’t have to know you to hurt for you. Again, so glad y’all made it through this. Thank you, Jesus!

    The same thing happened to us in our sailboat in the middle of Casco Bay, Maine, just outside of Portland. We started yelling, my husband yelled “Ghost the wheel! “ at the other captain and he jumped out from below after several minutes and missed us by an inch! Never stopped though, I would have liked to ask him how fast did he think a sailboat can come about?

    If you look at the 0:34 mark, the third man was still on side of the boat when the other boat hit. I almost felt bad for the driver, to know he caused this accident, until I read what he said in an interview: In a phone call with The Oregonian/Oregon Live, Larsen denied using his phone on the boat the day of the accident. He called such allegations "fake news," further claiming that Maess' lawsuit is unnecessary because the people in the other boat weren't hurt badly.

  •  7 лет назад +3

    the old fuck was 75 and had to use a scooter. he had no business driving a boat
    get this, he said it was not his fault, he couldn't see because he was sitting down
    he also said the lawsuit was unnecessary because no one was seriously hurt. yeah, who cares about the boat he destroyed

      Here is a news flash for the guy, if you can not see you are not driving safely. Rule of boating, have a lookout at all times, which means the driver should be aware of what is ahead of him, as well as those on board (ahead and around the boat), etc. So is this guy saying that its ok to run over people because you can not see where you are going. This man should not be allowed to drive a boat.

    Glad you all were safe; boats can be repaired but people not so much. I remember when I first saw this it reminded me of the arguments I made for 20 years before I gave up.
    Auto drivers must be tested, licensed and follow the rules of the road or be cited and possibly pay fines or lose driving privileges. Boat operators get by with few ir none of these and only the most blatant offenses are dealt with. No radar, no stop signs, no routine enforcement; all of which means we have a lot of careless and incompetetant boaters out there.

    They were anchored there the whole time. Even if he couldn't see them up close over the bow rise he had to see them from a distance back so he knew they were in the area. Running that fast next to a anchored boat is about as rude as it gets. Either he is blind or he was trying to "wash" them.

    • @geosciencenerd
      @geosciencenerd 7 лет назад +2

      wilford wiggins I have a question for ya. How is being "the rich old man" relavent? What if he were poor? Would that somehow change things? I absolutely hate when I hear things like this. Was the big boat driver at fault?-yes. Was he absent minded or distracted?-probably. Irresponsible?-certainly. Should we hate him?- that depends on whether or not he is rich and/or old. So friggin lame.

    • @th3_crappi3_kill3r
      @th3_crappi3_kill3r 7 лет назад

      Yes it would, not worth it to get a judgement against a poor person that can never pay.

    • @greeves380
      @greeves380 7 лет назад +4

      Rich, arrogant, negligent, yeah the old man is all of those things. Poor people don't buy 30 foot, $250,000 boats and run down people on the river and then say "whats the big deal, no one got hurt" which is what the old man said. You ought to read his statement concerning the accident. He hasn't even issued an apology as far as I have read about the issue. The "rich" part of this whole deal, is this old mans money is going to buy the best lawyer he can get to defend his actions, thus his "rich money" buys him off, what a poor person could not. Kinda like a rich hollywood liberal that gets a DUI, Kapisch?

Marlin Larsen thinks that he isn't in the wrong because no one was killed, makes him out to be the biggest idiot who should have never owned the boat in the first place. Some people think they are above everyone else when it comes to thinking they are right and to hell with everyone else.(SCARY)

    • @DaveInNorCal

      Looks to me like He was grabbing the side of the windshield frame to help throw himself out of the boat. The camera or cameras were probably mounted on the windshield frame pointed aft to record the fishing action.

    In this scenario wouldn’t life jackets be deadly? I mean you jump off with a life jacket you will float which means your highly likely to get hit by a propeller. Without the life jacket you could stay under water at least 30 seconds to allow time to avoid the propeller.
