In Shadow Generations, Gerald theorizes openly to Shadow about the dual Chaos Control potentially being capable of creating portals through time. If this immensely broken ability comes back in a future game, at least Shadow is partially aware of it already, and it might come in handy as a desperate resource for overcoming a major threat 👀 Great video!
@@neurosis51 oof… I don’t know about that. Personally, I think they wrapped up her story quite nicely in Generations, it’s time for Shadow to move onto new challenges and paths of character growth. Bringing Maria back once more would undermine the strength of her last goodbye, as happy as I would be to see her again. I think Sonic was tired from using chaos control because he was using it for such on big jump AND was using a fake AND it was his first time Sonic does prefer to use his natural abilities over the added ones of chaos control so I also believe that Sonic takes a sort of pride in his speed and sees something like chaos control as a cheat while shadow uses it because he has a job to do and chaos control makes that job easier
9:35 I think the reason why shadow took the real one instead of the fake is because he would have a limit on how many times he could use chaos control since a fake has a limit while the real one is unlimited so can use Chaos control as many times as you want. Also in Sonic X (I know it is non-canon) in the last arc Shadow was Teleported away by tails to somewhere but use Chaos control to come back but he use a fake emerald which dissolves straight after he used to chaos control.
Remember two things, first, sonic x is non canon and took lots of liberties Second, Shadow was surprised at sonic being able to use chaos control with a fake emerald in sa2 because it was something he truly couldn't do, Sonic was special, and even in the end of the game Dhadow says thag Sonic is the True ultimate lifeform, so its probably that

@PompeiSurvivor while sonic X mostly does it’s own thing and is not canon to the games, during the sonic adventure 2 adaptation sonic team did get involved with the writing and added elements that was left out of the game which includes maria’s illness and shadow’s inhibitor rings both of which were confirmed to be originally part of sa2’s story and would continue to be a part of the canon to present day in shadow generations
I personally believe how chaos control works is how a person's thoughts can be transferred into power and that if the person's thoughts is thinking about moving fast or slowing down time it will do it based on their mind and heart. There are some exceptions like having chaos artificially inside you or literally built-in or haven't connection to it. Or just being insanely powerful but that's what I think of it. And also we shouldn't forget that the Chaos Emeralds are also things from another planet from Frontiers it would probably be out of this world. Also I didn't know that people were arguing about if Chaos Control messes with time or space and harassing a guy over it. That is insanely immature. And I honestly thought that Chaos Control can both control time and space at the same time or choosing one or the other based on the person's preference of what they're thinking.

Like for the Shadow the Hedgehog video game if you fill up the blue gauge by doing good deeds like helping people or the Sonic characters it would fuel up to do a Chaos Control to either slow down time or to help speeding up to the next part of the level but if you do bad things like destroying property or killing people you will fill up the redgage and do chaos blasts to destroy more things and I think using chaos energy reflects of from Shadow of how someone could feels or thinks. Or how Chaos and Sonic Adventure one used the negative side of the Chaos emeralds and turned himself Into a monster because of his thoughts of anger and revenge reflecting his heart. Or how Mephils fuse with Ibilis using the Chaos Emerald to create Solaris. And with these moments it does reflect off of from thoughts and a person's heart, about how to use that Chaos since Chaos is power enriched by the heart, the person one is the one who utilizes that chaos either in ways of evil or in ways of good.

Thanks for the explanation of how Chaos Control works but I personal think that Chaos Control can teleport and slow down time and with one or more emeralds that power is more increased and in 06/Adventure 3 Blaze says the emeralds turn your thoughts into power and in Adventure 1 your emotional state does also influence the power of the emeralds. TLDR: Chaos Control can warp space and time as well as teleport and do all kinds of crazy powerful things and with one or more chaos emeralds your power is boosted allowing the user to do more things with the power of Chaos Control.
Shadow flying and Shadow booming seems best to describe as Chaos Dash and Chaos Blast as he is flying not teleporting and in Shadow gens and Shadow cutscenes he can just go from point A to point B, in 06 in a cutscene he does it standing and just disappears so that in Shadow The hedgehog is definitely flying so its a dash and doing it without a chaos emerald may explain why it goes much further cause perhaps this is less energy expenditure to fly... BUT that is definitely flying
The Shadow 05 version is likely the same as the marked routes in Shadow Generations, though what that actually is beyond some kind of space warp is unclear.
I am going to support the lore from Sonic Adventure that chaos energy becomes more ordered and controllable with more emeralds with this awesome idea. Shadow takes less a toll from chaos control not because he has a link with chaos energy but rather because he is a living chaos emeralds on a much smaller scale and thus chaos control is easier to manipulate because HE HIMSELF IS UNIFYING THE CHAOS! Like an actual chaos emerald would

i may of but Im not entirely sure whats going on in the case of sonic x and if it accurately portrays what chaos control can do in the games canon as it not only transferred characters from one world to another it later on merges two worlds together, as for sonic advance 3 well…I haven’t really played sonic advance 3 so i don’t really know or understand the context of how it was used and what exactly happened to the world after eggman did his thing

@ZioEndling i used footage but limiter rings are not exclusive to sonic X, they are seen in sonic 06 and at the end of sa2 when sonic gives one of them to rouge
space and time are intrinsically linked so it makes sense that chaos control is able to influence both. in 06 the portals from a double chaos control move the characters through space as well. they end up in a different place and time not the same place in a different time. i don't see how this was ever a point of contention.
As far as replicating chaos emeralds and using chaos control without the emeralds. I feel like it’s a Cellphone Network. The Master Emerald outputs a signal like a phone tower and anyone with a correct SIM card can use it. If people could study the SIM Cards naturally this could be replicated.
Wow, thank you for this video. I got back into the Sonic franchise because of the Fearless Year of Shadow, and there is so much lore and info to catch up and refresh on. I learned so much from this, please do one on the Biolizard. I’ll keep a lookout for it.
A small correction I'd like to make regarding 11:46 is this: While it is true that the events of Sonic 06 never happened for the mainline cast of characters and so they have no memory of these events, Shadow does in fact know about this method of Chaos Control time travel due to him having a conversation with Gerald in Shadow Generations in which Gerald hypothesizes about exactly this. It's completely untested in the main timeline since as far as we know Shadow hasn't bothered testing Gerald's hypothesis out yet, but this could still end up being a plot point in a later game. Additionally, while the Biolizard was already capable of Chaos Control of SA2, the introduction of Black Doom into the lore also comes with a plot hole as the new lore for Shadow since then has been that after the failure of the Biolizard stage of Project Shadow Gerald was offered Chaos Control by Black Doom, and after accepting was given some of Doom's DNA which lead to the creation of Shadow the Hedgehog. The direct lore implication is that Gerald didn't have access to Chaos Control before this and it was because of having Doom's DNA within him that Shadow is able to perform Chaos Control. This directly contradicts the fact that the Biolizard can in fact use Chaos Control and its ability to do so is important to the story of SA2. Strangely, in Shadow Generations we can see that using Chaos Control against another Chaos Control user such as in the Metal Overlord boss fight doesn't do much good, as the two Chaos Controls actually cancel each other out and the fight proceeds as if in real time, just with time stopped around the two fighters. Despite this, Shadow is capable of using Chaos Control against the Biolizard just fine, and in fact faces no issue using it against Mephiles either despite him being capable of a similar power.
@@Crow_Rising in regards to chaos control geralds journal indicates the discovery of the emeralds being able to manipulate space time, both the journal and the classfied file from sa2 describe the biolozard’s external engine and a special organ that allow it to initiate chaos control, the line about black doom offering the miracle of chaos control threw me through a loop for a while but best i can interpret is it may of meant because of black doom gerald was able to access mastery of chaos control for shadow or something along those lines
@@dshaynietheawesome It's just a plot hole, and one that doesn't seem to have been caught by the writers, or that is simply just allowed to stand because too much of the existing lore is dependent on the plot hole and it's not worth the risk introducing more plot holes just to patch the one. The plot hole was introduced in Shadow 05, and it's likely that at the time it was a detail that simply slipped by unnoticed since the Biolizard wasn't a huge part of the plot in that game. If they did realize it at the time, it might have been considered too minor to fix as most people wouldn't make the connection without the puzzle pieces deliberately laid out in front of them to put together. However, if I were to speculate about a graceful patch for the plot hole that wouldn't introduce any additional plot holes, it would be that what the Biolizard is capable of is something adjacent to Chaos Control, but more unrefined. Less a matter of mastery, and more like comparing a crossbow to a gun. They do similar things, but the underlying mechanics of how this is done are different. As for what this difference might entail, my best guess would be that Chaos Control is something more deliberate; the user has control over the intended effects. The Biolizard on the other hand has the mind of an animal and operates entirely on instinct. It's instinctually able to use the power to do some pre-set purposes and knows when to do so through the same instincts, but otherwise doesn't have the control over the power necessary for it to be a true Chaos Control.
I've always thought that Sonic has better compatibility with chaos energy than Shadow (which is why he has the strongest super form) but he can't use it efficiently which Shadow can
Teleportation as depicted in fiction usually involves the teleporter traveling through a wormhole at light speed and it's no different with Chaos Control. So when Shadow uses the technique to teleport in Shadow 05, we're basically seeing wormhole travel through his perspective. Or at least, that's my theory anyway. There's actually a similar scene from X-Men 2 when Nightcrawler teleports himself and Professor X to the ship and we see what teleporting looks like from his perspective.
TLDR MORE EMERALDS = MORE CONTROL AND MORE AMPLIFIED POWER = MORE INSANE STUNTS! I personally believe that the seven emeralds provides further control over the limitless power and that's what I've come to based on info I've gathered as every emerald has infinite energy I think the more unified the chaos power is when its in close proximity with another chaos emerald the more control one has over the power which is why characters are exhausted trying to use this limitless uncontrolled power as their minds, body and emotional state get overwhelmed by the pure chaos and would explain why the emeralds react with certain characters like Sonic basically being the symbol of positive energy or more accurately the embodiment of hope and freedom can use chaos control with as little as one emerald as they resonate better with the emeralds who's power requires will, mind and heart to react. This is why Sonic is never exhausted when using 7 emeralds because the power of chaos becomes stronger, more unified and more orderly with each emerald and thus the load needed with one emerald is greatly reduced and would explain why two users using two emeralds are not exhausted after chaos control because of the unified chaos and because Shadow has chaos energy in him and Sonic and Silver possess chaos emeralds, as 06 has demonstrated the control of chaos can be distributed between multiple users and thus they were able to pull of chaos control without side effects And finally chaos control does seem to produce more powerful moves with more unified chaos and results vary with intent or no intent which may explain why later future and past time travel becomes more consistent in the later game as going to the future when they wanted and back to the past becomes easier as Sonic and Shadow developed intentions for its use like how the intent of every emerald in Frontiers is to power cyberspace and the islands defenses and when you put a chaos emerald in a machine with no purpose for it, it goes haywire. Finally, finally chaos control with all emeralds can do everything blasting, dashing, miracles like returning the dead as the chaos emeralds reacted in 06 to Elise's wish and no character faces repercussions for these uses as the control is greatly unified thus explaining why the use of chaos energy is called CHAOS CONTROL!
Nice video, well researched, thank you for sharing! What I find interesting is that Sonic did in fact use Chaos Control as early as his first debut game, Sonic the Hedgehog, in 1991. This is seen in the true-ending when 'all' 6 chaos emeralds are collected (yep, that game has 6 emeralds rather than 7). The Ending shows Chaos Control space-manipulation restoring everything, while 'exiting Special Stages' even as a game mechanic, shows him warping between stages as personal warping.
11:42 Actually It's at least implied if not outright stated that both Sonic and Elise both remember what happened. Not that it matters much because given Sonic CD, Sonic is already well aware and capable of Time travel whenever he wants to. (And that is not even talking about Archie Sonic)
Sonic is actually capable of handling Chaos Control just fine. The first time he uses it with the fake emerald takes a lot out of him, but later he is capable of spamming it without issue in his final encounter with Shadow before the events of the final story. It's more likely that the reason Sonic doesn't use it much after this is because of a combination of his pride in doing things with his own power and his respect for Shadow and him not wanting to take his whole shtick. When Sonic starts feeling desperate, instead of relying on Chaos Control he'll just put in the leg work to collect all seven emeralds and use Super Sonic instead.
- Shadow's body is the only being that can truly harnesses Chaos Energy while other beings become unstable. (This is why he can use the chaos spear and other abilities) - Chaos Zero was a Chao that gained too much Chaos Energy (this is also akin to why the adult form of a neutral chaos looks like a mini Chaos Zero) - the Rings are there own source of energy and they are used as a vessel to store chaos energy for limited time (thus why 50 rings yo be super sonic in the games) - chaos control doesn't teleport but instead creates a Spacial warp point (the Mystic Melody in SA2 is the same as this) - 2 emeralds can go back in time - as Super Sonic, Sonic can move dimensions (he possibly can merge realms too like the machine eggman used in Sonic X, but that was due to the energy being unstable) Most likely he can as the Biolizard merged witht he ark so one could assume all 7 could merge even more - the Fake emerald tails made can use chaos control ONLY if in reach of another chaos emerald. (This was explained in I believe the first Sonic adventure where they talk about how the chaos emeralds are magnetized to each other's chaos energy) - the reason the emeralds separate after using their full power (aside from it being a dbz reference) is because they become opposing polarities to each other just like opposite magnets. Thus why they are always equally divided apart - machine beings like Metal Sonic and Gemerl are sorta unexplained why they can basically evolve with chaos emeralds and its energies. Its as if it makes the machine into a living sentient being
6:28 In the Sonic Boss Fight at the end of the Dark Story, Sonic is able to use Chaos Control multiple times throughout the fight. He was most likely using Chaos Control to stop time due to the green glow.
probably first time jitters but the boss fight is setup to mirror shadows boss with the same ai and shadow is always warping because they need to reset the rival character when they fall off the arena but the real question is how is shadow doing that without an emerald sa2 ain’t flawless

I think/it would make more sense if, dual chaos control time travel, needs a time distortion to work. The present and future were linked by eggmans machine that broke time using only 1 emerald, and the past was linked by the emergence of Iblis and Mephy 2 parts of a time god.
Personally. My theory on why shadow had sonic taking the fake emerald is that we already know sonic can use chaos control with the fake. Where we havent seen shadow do the same. So shadow might not be able to use the fake emerald to do chaos control like sonic can. So rather than risk it. Since sonic can use chaos control regardless of if its fake or not. Giving him the fake is the best move.
Shadow can use fake emeralds. He used them in the idw comics. It probably more likely that shadow wanted to keep the real emerald because its just stronger and he needed it for doom.
I think you did a great job describing chaos control, and while your editing is pretty good I’d refrain from using fan made creations like SMBZ. Not because the series is bad but it makes it sound like your saying the fan series has relevance to discussing the real lore of the chaos control ability.

Remember that sonic has inherited the emeralds to their full potential before, but the emerald he uses is a fake. The fake emerald is used to sabotage the original emeralds power to cancel it out. This was primarily used to destroy the eclipse canon because of that effect. Chaos energy is a force stored in the users body after the user encounters chaos energy (e.g. sonic using the emeralds has caused him to store chaos energy in his body) Unlike shadow, sonic can still use chaos energy bur uses it in his own way.

Disclaimer: THIS IS HEAD CANON, DON'T HARM ME. I always thought that Sonic being able to use chaos control was cus of his exposure to the emeralds over the games prior to SA2. Sonic seeing a prime example of chaos control done by Shadow was the last piece he needed to start doing it himself, albeit with way less precision than Shadow, as unlike Shadow, chaos energy isn't natural for Sonic. It's like Goku's UI vs Whis/the angel's UI. It isn't natural for Sonic, but he can get better at it through further exposure with the emeralds/practice using it.
I have a question I wish you’d covered: So it’s been said repeatedly that Shadow needs a Chaos Emerald to use Chaos Control, but during his battle with Sonic on the ARK in Adventure 2 he is able to use it without any. And again, in Shadow ‘05, he is able to use Chaos Control during the final story while Black Doom has all the Chaos Emeralds on him. Do you think these are oversights or was his need to use a Chaos Emerald a retcon? Quick edit: I would excuse these as just gameplay mechanics but in SA2 it’s a unique mechanic to that fight, meaning it’s definitely intentional, and in Shadow ‘05 there is spoken dialogue telling Shadow to use Chaos Control during the segment I’m referring to.
Fun fact (that also serves as another proof that Chaos Control can teleport a user through dimensions): In one of the Sonic Channel 2021 Cover Stories, Sonic teleports into Blaze's dimension after getting all the 7 Chaos Emeralds, in that collection of stories (which each month had a story having both Sonic and another character meeting) Sonic goes after "rainbow colored meteors", after his last fight with Eggman prior to the stories set in those novels, the emeralds powers were drained after Sonic used them and they scattered around the world like they usually do after Sonic uses them Sonic then, throughout the stories finds one by one, he finds one with Tails in Green Hill, another one with Amy in Twinkle Park, Shadow gives him one in Mission Street, Silver gives another one to him in Kingdom Valley, he races against Metal Sonic for the emeralds in Speed Highway, he fights with Rouge to get one in the ruined Eggmanland, etc. And after collecting all 7, Sonic is suddenly surrounded by a weird light, and when he notices, he's in Coral Cave, in Blaze's dimension, after helping her out cleaning some of the pirates who were left from their last adventure in Rush Adventure, Blaze and Sonic find a totally broken almost falling apart Captain Whisker still working and ready to fight them, Blaze decides to fight Whisker and tells Sonic to go home, they say their goodbyes as Sonic gets teleported back home with the Chaos Emeralds We know that all the Sonic Channel stuff is canon aswell, all the artworks and stories, and it complements the main continuity, so that serves as another example, just like in Rivals, that they have the ability to teleport an user in-beetween dimensions just like the Sol Emeralds
I still think Shadow teleported Rouge out. Him stopping time doesn’t make any sense when he can just warp them. I think Ian just answered the way he did to save face and get one up over the fan. He’s a good writer, but I still think he’s a jerk.

You pronounced Emerl’s name incorrectly, according to the katakana used for his name, it’s pronounced “エメル, Emeru” because he’s named after the Chaos Emeralds. It’s just the same way you pronounce emerald, but without the d at the end. I understand this misunderstanding only exists because of the weird way 4-Kids decided to pronounce his name in the dub, just another one of the many problems 4-Kids introduced for no reason… I suddenly want a jelly filled onigiri.
@@dshaynietheawesome I wouldn’t worry too much about it, it’s a common occurrence for a character whose only ever canonically had his name spoken in text form. The anime pronounced it weird too, but that’s because in the 4-Kids dub they chose to treat him like a robot and not a person with how his name is spoken. Though we know for a fact how his name is pronounced since not only is he named after something specific which has it’s own way of being pronounced. But as I stated in my original comment, his name is written in katakana and as such it’s got only one way to be read. Barring accents, his name should be read the same way one might read emerald. Not trying to be mean or anything, I hope I didn’t come off as such. I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while, ever since your “Sonic Origins is Pretty weird” video came out and appeared in my recommended feed. I love these smaller lore specific videos quite a lot, they’re honestly some of my favorite videos you’ve done. Be it the Werehog/Chaos video, or the Split Timeline video. Personally a topic I would love to see covered that isn’t talked about much, is how it seems like most of the major landmarks on Sonic’s Earth are specifically located on islands, and how those islands have some mystical properties within them. For example, did you know that according to the Sonic 1 Japanese manual, South Island never stays in one place for too long, it’s a moving island and as such it can’t be found on any maps. It’s essentially a legend not too dissimilar to one’s told by sailors in the past. Also all of the 8-bit games take place on South Island instead of other islands, like Sonic 2 8-Bit takes place on South Island instead of Westside Island like it’s 16-Bit counterpart.

The fact Shadow can chaos control can stop time put Goku in stasis teleport to the sun and toss him in. It's true death battle just wants dbz characters to win. It should've been a quick fight for Shadow and Sonic.
not really i mean we already know the distance is limited so shadow certainly couldn't go to the sun I can't imagine him surviving that either but more importantly we've seen goku fight hit who can also manipulate time and I don't see it going any differently

I kind of want to assume that Sonic using chaos control in Adventure 2 was initially a lucky fluke, but the origins of the chaos emeralds revealed in Frontiers+the fact that the master emerald already was on earth might have been a semi-retcon, since Knuckles had the master emerald shards on him, it was probably like a beacon.. semi-ambigously since Eggman noted there being multiple chaos emerald signiatures. but only noting that there was 2 of them, presumably there was a large amount of time between observing that on the console and calling Sonic's bluff by saying that the emerald was fake. meaning he might not be aware that the master emerald was one of those two, or just assumed it was the fake. (or the real one was so close, that it didn't get read as a 3rd signiature?) i guess the alturnative is that the master emerald can't generate wavelengths unless it was fully repaired which wouldn't be possible until after the Moon stage. as for the Biolizard, there might be minor prescidence over its size, since it was artificially-experimented on with Chaos Drives, which forcibly caused cellular generation, not too dissililar to the animals of the northstar islands. though those ones might have just grown naturally.

I think Sonic was tired from using chaos control because he was using it for such on big jump AND was using a fake AND it was his first time Sonic does prefer to use his natural abilities over the added ones of chaos control so I also believe that Sonic takes a sort of pride in his speed and sees something like chaos control as a cheat while shadow uses it because he has a job to do and chaos control makes that job easier
9:35 I think the reason why shadow took the real one instead of the fake is because he would have a limit on how many times he could use chaos control since a fake has a limit while the real one is unlimited so can use Chaos control as many times as you want. Also in Sonic X (I know it is non-canon) in the last arc Shadow was Teleported away by tails to somewhere but use Chaos control to come back but he use a fake emerald which dissolves straight after he used to chaos control.

I personally believe how chaos control works is how a person's thoughts can be transferred into power and that if the person's thoughts is thinking about moving fast or slowing down time it will do it based on their mind and heart. There are some exceptions like having chaos artificially inside you or literally built-in or haven't connection to it. Or just being insanely powerful but that's what I think of it. And also we shouldn't forget that the Chaos Emeralds are also things from another planet from Frontiers it would probably be out of this world. Also I didn't know that people were arguing about if Chaos Control messes with time or space and harassing a guy over it. That is insanely immature. And I honestly thought that Chaos Control can both control time and space at the same time or choosing one or the other based on the person's preference of what they're thinking.

Like for the Shadow the Hedgehog video game if you fill up the blue gauge by doing good deeds like helping people or the Sonic characters it would fuel up to do a Chaos Control to either slow down time or to help speeding up to the next part of the level but if you do bad things like destroying property or killing people you will fill up the redgage and do chaos blasts to destroy more things and I think using chaos energy reflects of from Shadow of how someone could feels or thinks. Or how Chaos and Sonic Adventure one used the negative side of the Chaos emeralds and turned himself Into a monster because of his thoughts of anger and revenge reflecting his heart. Or how Mephils fuse with Ibilis using the Chaos Emerald to create Solaris. And with these moments it does reflect off of from thoughts and a person's heart, about how to use that Chaos since Chaos is power enriched by the heart, the person one is the one who utilizes that chaos either in ways of evil or in ways of good.

Thanks for the explanation of how Chaos Control works but I personal think that Chaos Control can teleport and slow down time and with one or more emeralds that power is more increased and in 06/Adventure 3 Blaze says the emeralds turn your thoughts into power and in Adventure 1 your emotional state does also influence the power of the emeralds.
TLDR: Chaos Control can warp space and time as well as teleport and do all kinds of crazy powerful things and with one or more chaos emeralds your power is boosted allowing the user to do more things with the power of Chaos Control.

Shadow flying and Shadow booming seems best to describe as Chaos Dash and Chaos Blast as he is flying not teleporting and in Shadow gens and Shadow cutscenes he can just go from point A to point B, in 06 in a cutscene he does it standing and just disappears so that in Shadow The hedgehog is definitely flying so its a dash and doing it without a chaos emerald may explain why it goes much further cause perhaps this is less energy expenditure to fly... BUT that is definitely flying
The Shadow 05 version is likely the same as the marked routes in Shadow Generations, though what that actually is beyond some kind of space warp is unclear.

I am going to support the lore from Sonic Adventure that chaos energy becomes more ordered and controllable with more emeralds with this awesome idea. Shadow takes less a toll from chaos control not because he has a link with chaos energy but rather because he is a living chaos emeralds on a much smaller scale and thus chaos control is easier to manipulate because HE HIMSELF IS UNIFYING THE CHAOS! in 06 the portals from a double chaos control move the characters through space as well. they end up in a different place and time not the same place in a different time.

A small correction I'd like to make regarding 11:46 is this: While it is true that the events of Sonic 06 never happened for the mainline cast of characters and so they have no memory of these events, Shadow does in fact know about this method of Chaos Control time travel due to him having a conversation with Gerald in Shadow Generations in which Gerald hypothesizes about exactly this. It's completely untested in the main timeline since as far as we know Shadow hasn't bothered testing Gerald's hypothesis out yet, but this could still end up being a plot point in a later game.
Additionally, while the Biolizard was already capable of Chaos Control of SA2, the introduction of Black Doom into the lore also comes with a plot hole as the new lore for Shadow since then has been that after the failure of the Biolizard stage of Project Shadow Gerald was offered Chaos Control by Black Doom, and after accepting was given some of Doom's DNA which lead to the creation of Shadow the Hedgehog. The direct lore implication is that Gerald didn't have access to Chaos Control before this and it was because of having Doom's DNA within him that Shadow is able to perform Chaos Control. This directly contradicts the fact that the Biolizard can in fact use Chaos Control and its ability to do so is important to the story of SA2.
Strangely, in Shadow Generations we can see that using Chaos Control against another Chaos Control user such as in the Metal Overlord boss fight doesn't do much good, as the two Chaos Controls actually cancel each other out and the fight proceeds as if in real time, just with time stopped around the two fighters. Despite this, Shadow is capable of using Chaos Control against the Biolizard just fine, and in fact faces no issue using it against Mephiles either despite him being capable of a similar power.
@@Crow_Rising in regards to chaos control geralds journal indicates the discovery of the emeralds being able to manipulate space time, both the journal and the classfied file from sa2 describe the biolozard’s external engine and a special organ that allow it to initiate chaos control, the line about black doom offering the miracle of chaos control threw me through a loop for a while but best i can interpret is it may of meant because of black doom gerald was able to access mastery of chaos control for shadow or something along those lines
@@dshaynietheawesome It's just a plot hole, and one that doesn't seem to have been caught by the writers, or that is simply just allowed to stand because too much of the existing lore is dependent on the plot hole and it's not worth the risk introducing more plot holes just to patch the one.
The plot hole was introduced in Shadow 05, and it's likely that at the time it was a detail that simply slipped by unnoticed since the Biolizard wasn't a huge part of the plot in that game. If they did realize it at the time, it might have been considered too minor to fix as most people wouldn't make the connection without the puzzle pieces deliberately laid out in front of them to put together.
However, if I were to speculate about a graceful patch for the plot hole that wouldn't introduce any additional plot holes, it would be that what the Biolizard is capable of is something adjacent to Chaos Control, but more unrefined. Less a matter of mastery, and more like comparing a crossbow to a gun. They do similar things, but the underlying mechanics of how this is done are different.
As for what this difference might entail, my best guess would be that Chaos Control is something more deliberate; the user has control over the intended effects. The Biolizard on the other hand has the mind of an animal and operates entirely on instinct. It's instinctually able to use the power to do some pre-set purposes and knows when to do so through the same instincts, but otherwise doesn't have the control over the power necessary for it to be a true Chaos Control.

Teleportation as depicted in fiction usually involves the teleporter traveling through a wormhole at light speed and it's no different with Chaos Control. So when Shadow uses the technique to teleport in Shadow 05, we're basically seeing wormhole travel through his perspective. Or at least, that's my theory anyway. There's actually a similar scene from X-Men 2 when Nightcrawler teleports himself and Professor X to the ship and we see what teleporting looks like from his perspective.
TLDR MORE EMERALDS = MORE CONTROL AND MORE AMPLIFIED POWER = MORE INSANE STUNTS!
I personally believe that the seven emeralds provides further control over the limitless power and that's what I've come to based on info I've gathered as every emerald has infinite energy I think the more unified the chaos power is when its in close proximity with another chaos emerald the more control one has over the power which is why characters are exhausted trying to use this limitless uncontrolled power as their minds, body and emotional state get overwhelmed by the pure chaos and would explain why the emeralds react with certain characters like Sonic basically being the symbol of positive energy or more accurately the embodiment of hope and freedom can use chaos control with as little as one emerald as they resonate better with the emeralds who's power requires will, mind and heart to react. This is why Sonic is never exhausted when using 7 emeralds because the power of chaos becomes stronger, more unified and more orderly with each emerald and thus the load needed with one emerald is greatly reduced and would explain why two users using two emeralds are not exhausted after chaos control because of the unified chaos and because Shadow has chaos energy in him and Sonic and Silver possess chaos emeralds, as 06 has demonstrated the control of chaos can be distributed between multiple users and thus they were able to pull of chaos control without side effects
And finally chaos control does seem to produce more powerful moves with more unified chaos and results vary with intent or no intent which may explain why later future and past time travel becomes more consistent in the later game as going to the future when they wanted and back to the past becomes easier as Sonic and Shadow developed intentions for its use like how the intent of every emerald in Frontiers is to power cyberspace and the islands defenses and when you put a chaos emerald in a machine with no purpose for it, it goes haywire. Finally, finally chaos control with all emeralds can do everything blasting, dashing, miracles like returning the dead as the chaos emeralds reacted in 06 to Elise's wish and no character faces repercussions for these uses as the control is greatly unified thus explaining why the use of chaos energy is called CHAOS CONTROL!

What I find interesting is that Sonic did in fact use Chaos Control as early as his first debut game, Sonic the Hedgehog, in 1991. This is seen in the true-ending when 'all' 6 chaos emeralds are collected (yep, that game has 6 emeralds rather than 7).
The Ending shows Chaos Control space-manipulation restoring everything, while 'exiting Special Stages' even as a game mechanic, shows him warping between stages as personal warping.
11:42 Actually It's at least implied if not outright stated that both Sonic and Elise both remember what happened. Not that it matters much because given Sonic CD, Sonic is already well aware and capable of Time travel whenever he wants to. (And that is not even talking about Archie Sonic)
Sonic is actually capable of handling Chaos Control just fine. The first time he uses it with the fake emerald takes a lot out of him, but later he is capable of spamming it without issue in his final encounter with Shadow before the events of the final story. It's more likely that the reason Sonic doesn't use it much after this is because of a combination of his pride in doing things with his own power and his respect for Shadow and him not wanting to take his whole shtick. When Sonic starts feeling desperate, instead of relying on Chaos Control he'll just put in the leg work to collect all seven emeralds and use Super Sonic instead.
- Shadow's body is the only being that can truly harnesses Chaos Energy while other beings become unstable. (This is why he can use the chaos spear and other abilities)
- Chaos Zero was a Chao that gained too much Chaos Energy (this is also akin to why the adult form of a neutral chaos looks like a mini Chaos Zero)
- the Rings are there own source of energy and they are used as a vessel to store chaos energy for limited time (thus why 50 rings yo be super sonic in the games)
- chaos control doesn't teleport but instead creates a Spacial warp point (the Mystic Melody in SA2 is the same as this)
- 2 emeralds can go back in time
- as Super Sonic, Sonic can move dimensions (he possibly can merge realms too like the machine eggman used in Sonic X, but that was due to the energy being unstable)
Most likely he can as the Biolizard merged witht he ark so one could assume all 7 could merge even more
- the Fake emerald tails made can use chaos control ONLY if in reach of another chaos emerald. (This was explained in I believe the first Sonic adventure where they talk about how the chaos emeralds are magnetized to each other's chaos energy)
- the reason the emeralds separate after using their full power (aside from it being a dbz reference) is because they become opposing polarities to each other just like opposite magnets. Thus why they are always equally divided apart
- machine beings like Metal Sonic and Gemerl are sorta unexplained why they can basically evolve with chaos emeralds and its energies. Its as if it makes the machine into a living sentient being

I think/it would make more sense if, dual chaos control time travel, needs a time distortion to work. The present and future were linked by eggmans machine that broke time using only 1 emerald, and the past was linked by the emergence of Iblis and Mephy 2 parts of a time god.

Personally. My theory on why shadow had sonic taking the fake emerald is that we already know sonic can use chaos control with the fake. Where we havent seen shadow do the same. So shadow might not be able to use the fake emerald to do chaos control like sonic can. So rather than risk it. Since sonic can use chaos control regardless of if its fake or not. Giving him the fake is the best move.
Shadow can use fake emeralds. He used them in the idw comics. It probably more likely that shadow wanted to keep the real emerald because its just stronger and he needed it for doom.
I think you did a great job describing chaos control, and while your editing is pretty good I’d refrain from using fan made creations like SMBZ. Not because the series is bad but it makes it sound like your saying the fan series has relevance to discussing the real lore of the chaos control ability.

Thats true, but its NOT because of chaos energy. Remember that sonic has inherited the emeralds to their full potential before, but the emerald he uses is a fake.
The fake emerald is used to sabotage the original emeralds power to cancel it out. This was primarily used to destroy the eclipse canon because of that effect.
Chaos energy is a force stored in the users body after the user encounters chaos energy (e.g. sonic using the emeralds has caused him to store chaos energy in his body)
Unlike shadow, sonic can still use chaos energy bur uses it in his own way.

I always thought that Sonic being able to use chaos control was cus of his exposure to the emeralds over the games prior to SA2. Sonic seeing a prime example of chaos control done by Shadow was the last piece he needed to start doing it himself, albeit with way less precision than Shadow, as unlike Shadow, chaos energy isn't natural for Sonic. It's like Goku's UI vs Whis/the angel's UI. It isn't natural for Sonic, but he can get better at it through further exposure with the emeralds/practice using it.

And again, in Shadow ‘05, he is able to use Chaos Control during the final story while Black Doom has all the Chaos Emeralds on him. Do you think these are oversights or was his need to use a Chaos Emerald a retcon?
Quick edit: I would excuse these as just gameplay mechanics but in SA2 it’s a unique mechanic to that fight, meaning it’s definitely intentional, and in Shadow ‘05 there is spoken dialogue telling Shadow to use Chaos Control during the segment I’m referring to.

In one of the Sonic Channel 2021 Cover Stories, Sonic teleports into Blaze's dimension after getting all the 7 Chaos Emeralds, in that collection of stories (which each month had a story having both Sonic and another character meeting) Sonic goes after "rainbow colored meteors", after his last fight with Eggman prior to the stories set in those novels, the emeralds powers were drained after Sonic used them and they scattered around the world like they usually do after Sonic uses them
Sonic then, throughout the stories finds one by one, he finds one with Tails in Green Hill, another one with Amy in Twinkle Park, Shadow gives him one in Mission Street, Silver gives another one to him in Kingdom Valley, he races against Metal Sonic for the emeralds in Speed Highway, he fights with Rouge to get one in the ruined Eggmanland, etc.
And after collecting all 7, Sonic is suddenly surrounded by a weird light, and when he notices, he's in Coral Cave, in Blaze's dimension, after helping her out cleaning some of the pirates who were left from their last adventure in Rush Adventure, Blaze and Sonic find a totally broken almost falling apart Captain Whisker still working and ready to fight them, Blaze decides to fight Whisker and tells Sonic to go home, they say their goodbyes as Sonic gets teleported back home with the Chaos Emeralds
We know that all the Sonic Channel stuff is canon aswell, all the artworks and stories, and it complements the main continuity, so that serves as another example, just like in Rivals, that they have the ability to teleport an user in-beetween dimensions just like the Sol Emeralds

You pronounced Emerl’s name incorrectly, according to the katakana used for his name, it’s pronounced “エメル, Emeru” because he’s named after the Chaos Emeralds. It’s just the same way you pronounce emerald, but without the d at the end. I understand this misunderstanding only exists because of the weird way 4-Kids decided to pronounce his name in the dub, just another one of the many problems 4-Kids introduced for no reason… I suddenly want a jelly filled onigiri.

The anime pronounced it weird too, but that’s because in the 4-Kids dub they chose to treat him like a robot and not a person with how his name is spoken. Though we know for a fact how his name is pronounced since not only is he named after something specific which has it’s own way of being pronounced.
But as I stated in my original comment, his name is written in katakana and as such it’s got only one way to be read. Barring accents, his name should be read the same way one might read emerald.
Not trying to be mean or anything, I hope I didn’t come off as such. I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while, ever since your “Sonic Origins is Pretty weird” video came out and appeared in my recommended feed. I love these smaller lore specific videos quite a lot, they’re honestly some of my favorite videos you’ve done. Be it the Werehog/Chaos video, or the Split Timeline video.
Personally a topic I would love to see covered that isn’t talked about much, is how it seems like most of the major landmarks on Sonic’s Earth are specifically located on islands, and how those islands have some mystical properties within them. For example, did you know that according to the Sonic 1 Japanese manual, South Island never stays in one place for too long, it’s a moving island and as such it can’t be found on any maps. It’s essentially a legend not too dissimilar to one’s told by sailors in the past. Also all of the 8-bit games take place on South Island instead of other islands, like Sonic 2 8-Bit takes place on South Island instead of Westside Island like it’s 16-Bit counterpart.

The fact Shadow can chaos control can stop time put Goku in stasis teleport to the sun and toss him in. It's true death battle just wants dbz characters to win. It should've been a quick fight for Shadow and Sonic.
not really i mean we already know the distance is limited so shadow certainly couldn't go to the sun I can't imagine him surviving that either but more importantly we've seen goku fight hit who can also manipulate time and I don't see it going any differently

I kind of want to assume that Sonic using chaos control in Adventure 2 was initially a lucky fluke, but the origins of the chaos emeralds revealed in Frontiers+the fact that the master emerald already was on earth might have been a semi-retcon, since Knuckles had the master emerald shards on him, it was probably like a beacon.. semi-ambigously since Eggman noted there being multiple chaos emerald signiatures. but only noting that there was 2 of them, presumably there was a large amount of time between observing that on the console and calling Sonic's bluff by saying that the emerald was fake. meaning he might not be aware that the master emerald was one of those two, or just assumed it was the fake. (or the real one was so close, that it didn't get read as a 3rd signiature?) i guess the alturnative is that the master emerald can't generate wavelengths unless it was fully repaired which wouldn't be possible until after the Moon stage.
as for the Biolizard, there might be minor prescidence over its size, since it was artificially-experimented on with Chaos Drives, which forcibly caused cellular generation, not too dissililar to the animals of the northstar islands. though those ones might have just grown naturally.
Calling it a fluke is lowkey insanity.
