I just got back from my 3rd trip to Brittany and even though we got washed away by rain, the way France has preserved its historical character is beyond amazing. I am Belgian so it's my neighboring country and i am glad to be discovering it as a beginning surfer. Waves here in Belgium are mostly lazy if we get any at all. We rarely get good surf (according to others).
Bienvenue en France ! Bravo pour les efforts dans notre langue. I ´ll try to do the same in english when I ´ll go surfing in Australia in thé next years.
Love it! The south west of France is my favorite place. Doing a third trip in November. My wife is French and the plan is to be living there in the next couple of years.
Surfing in France is fun and can get really good but only when you can plan your all day of work around surf session. Otherwise the wind or the tide isn’t good. This is why so much international workers are around south west and works remote. As a normal worker you don’t get that many good sessions in France compared to other country….
I can’t believe you know Hossegor ,Capbreton wich is my dreamplace ! I bought a little house there just for surfing ! Maybe I will recognize you one day there …
@KalesBroccoli I'm Irish and love France and Spain but Portugal is where its at in Europe. Much better waves locals are slightly more friendly and much much cheaper.
Reminds me of my time leaving there. Truly a beautiful spot. But winters can be harsh and I experienced in the past one full month of rain in the basaue country 😂 locals will tell you, you know know why its green! Great job kate, keep it up! I'm going surfing Curly in the keantime 😉
Merci Mister Broccoli ! c'est vrai qu'on vit ici au pays basque dans une région magnifique. Vagues, nature, nourriture au top. A la prochaine mon ami !
Kale. Question to you. Cost wise do you believe it is better to choose a single place to stay and rent a car vs. Having a trailer/motorhome? I did a surf trip to Portugal few years back and i wanted to do the same in France. But having to move around to find better/less crowded spots seems that the motorhome alternative could be a.little better. But i would like to know your opinion...did you look at the alternative? Or do you believe renting a place over MH is better costwise? Thanks!😊
@@KalesBroccoli if is possibile I really would love to meet you , and get a lesson myself with you , i will be there this week till the 3th October , any chance ?😊
Dude, if your there you dont need me to comment on d French, enuff said However, your surfing has definitely found a new level, Dont let them get u down 😊😊
The Gouf of Capbreton, a deep submarine canyon, is at the origin of those beautiful, powerful waves. The water rises rapidly from the 50-100m depths of the gouf close to the coast. There’s a similar gouf off Nazare in Portugal.
Mickey Dora was one of the pioneer surfers there, he got put in jail, he was impressed by the quality of the wine prisoners were served at lunch, and seems so civilized to us colonial bastards.
Perhaps you and your level (and fame) gives you the chance to actually get good waves, on the other hand as a beginner, France is a nightmare. There is no line up and people are rude, disrespectful, arrogant and just plain unconscious, specially the more advanced they are. And not only France but most of the coast down to Spain and Portugal. I have been surfing these coasts for the last 3 years, all seasons, i live in a van and man it is tough out there. People don't even say hi in the water, (just like on the streets) even when I look at them with a smile and a respectful "hello". Only beginners respond (some times, rarely), any body, even KIDS! If they are not beginners they are rude and vulgar in their manner towards other less experienced surfers. It's crowded and it is a zoo out there. In my experience as a beginner. I am still yet to find a spot where there is actually a line up of some kind and friendly people in the water...😢 one may think that by the price tag of the sport one may find better manner and education but the wealth in Europe as in America, lived in both, has nothing to do with manners and education as it used to be, it is full of "new rich" people that are nasty, vulgar and uneducated, specially in the water. Actually quit surfing for a few months last year because of it, i picked it up again not long ago but getting tired of the crowds and the unconsciousness again... glad you have a better experience.

Brittany just wasn’t bombed as heavily in either World Wars as Belgium. Poor Belgium, would have been equally as beautiful were it not for that.

What boards were you riding? Those mid lengths when it was bigger…?
Hey Kale, do you rent those ebikes somewhere? Trying to figure that out for our stay in July.
I didn’t get one as they’re just as expensive as a car !

Yes but I prefer France :)

MH are super expensive but added benefit of being mobile. I prefer a wider and steady space for working holidays but MH for purely surf
Thanks!!
KB what’s your preferred way of getting there? Flight to Paris then puddle jumper? Train? Road trip down the coast?
Depends where I’m coming from - it’s a terrible connection once you get to to Bordeaux
Do not use train here, boardbag are forbidden in TGV and you can have a 150€ payment.

If you're a beginner, go during summer. If you're intermediate or advanced, september and october are the best months
What did you think of the One bad egg (i think this is what you're surfing on the reef near Biarritz)?
It’s a custom Phipps my friend has :) bit big and stiff for me but fun!
Thanks. The one bad egg is also a bit stiff (I find).
Have you moved to Europe now or just doing an extended stay?
Just an extended stay :)
Great video

The bathymetry is one reason... I think there's a deep sea canyon that focuses the waves there.

why is the guy at 3:57 naked?
cause it's "les culs nuls" probably, a naturist reserved beach
It’s France 🤷🏼♂️
people in Europe arent too uptight mate haha
It’s has to do with…
They’re not supposed to hang around freely but only in their spots, their little "indian reserves". Being naked in public is punishable of course.
Funny to see the naked guy jumping into the drink 😊.
