i remember reading something about the record company really REALLY wanting to push them to do a more R&B sound for their debut album as that was what was popular at the time and them really pushing for wannabe to be their first single bc it was more distinctive, and i think geri said something to the tune of not wanting to do r&b because americans were obviously already the best of the best at the style of the time.
Quite ironically their Spice album RnB was way better and more mature than the so called mature rnb from Forever. Last Time Lover and Take me Home are better songs that many of the songs from Forever.
