my first flute, bought in 1991, was preowned, and it was the best thing ever for me! It was a 1980s TAKUMI, with a silver headjoint and silverplated body. This brand does not exist anymore, the owners split after a while, one started Altus, the other Mateki. It is still in a great shape and served me very well, even though it was a "student" flute it was handmade and "it shows" even today! :)

When picking my current flute, I was torn between a new Altus 907 and a used Muramatsu EX-III. I ended up going with the Muramatsu and I love it!

I got a second-hand professional made solid-silver headjoint, for my Altus 807.
Was excited to see this but I'm already 1/3 in and it's just an infomercial for the flute centre, not about tips on buying a used flute.
Bought my 9k muramatsu second hand. The flute is absolutely perfect other than the tiniest bit of oxidation around the keys. Basically a brand new flute with 8,000 off the sticker price.

Generally I agree you get more for your money buying pre-owned. However when we tried flutes for my daughter in a music shop, we found that the new Yamaha sounded quite a bit better than the same used model.

Yes. Anything in 200 series yamaha's are great. I have 222 and has great seal and tone
