@@ClintsReptiles you make the absolute best reptile videos on youtube. Just got into reptiles 4 ish months ago and i have binged all of your videos! You single handedly got me to spend $500 on a gargoyle gecko too haha. Now just looking for a male for her!
Clint's Reptiles I have a leachie gecko and I’m wondering if I should use a heat source, my room is always around 18-20c but when I pick him up he is always quite cold. Do you need a humide hide with a leachie?
I believe I know why they became rare. Pictus geckos are from Madagascar. According to the owner of the Texas Reptile Zoo, Madagascar stopped exporting reptiles several years back, and when they resumed *only* exported CITES-listed species. This means that non-CITES Madagascar species, which were mostly wild-caught before the export moratorium, are now only available captive-bred, and since the non-CITES species are generally the ones which were less in demand (even though they include some really cool species like Malagasy iguanids, zonosaurs, and Malagasy hognose snakes), there weren't a lot of people breeding them. And for most of these species, there probably *still* aren't many people breeding them, because most people, sadly, just won't pay CBB prices for a pictus gecko or a zonosaur.
I don't think this is the case because they have been bred for a long time and are so easy to breed. They likely just fell out of popularity which happens to some species
My first once stalked my praying mantis through the glass between them... and the mantis stared back. I wish I had a picture, it was very funny especially cuz they were about the same size (huge mantis, subadult gecko)
Rewatching this video and giggling a little because we have about 41 Pictus gecko eggs from this year that have been slowly hatching out. They are super cool little dudes!
Loving these little gecko videos! If they’re not already on the to-do list you might want to think about adding viper geckos, super tiny, super easy care, super cute, super over looked.
Hi Clint, Just want to note that I have had my little guy climb almost to the top of the glass, i think the only reason he didn't make it is because there was some condensation. Please use a lid!! :)
6:15 they do climb suprisingly well when inclined to. My younger male even recently made it to the ceiling of his enclosure. Their pads are too small to walk up glass easily (except as babies, the babies can climb rediculously well) but there is a trick my geckos found out independently about climbing up in corners.
Clint, excellent video! I'm a bit of a Paroedura picta fanatic, raising hundreds and hundreds and I felt you were right on with the information, especially your comments on over breeding them. Very good. A couple of points- when they grow back their tails, while they are not turnip shaped like leos, they are stubby and do not appear like their original tails. Also, they DO benefit from UV light (like all animals). While they are nocturnal (look at those eyes! :) they are crepuscular also and some UVB lightings is a benefit. But excellent info!!!
I had a super freak accident recently with my leopard gecko where she got stuck in the crack of my bed because I took my eyes off her for a second and she unfortunately passed away. Your videos and the way you are so friendly have helped me in the grieving process and I cannot begin to express how amazing of a person you are, Clint.
@Motho I didn't realize what happened for several minutes and by the time I got her out she was limping. Think she had a heart attack or something. She was super old for a leo (born in like 2006) and was malnourished from her time with her previous owner.
I breed pictus geckos in Toronto Canada. I own some morphs, such as xanthic, anery, and a possible new one. Use a spoon to collect eggs. Very happy to see a great video about them. My big special male is 6.8 inch's. I have seen females climb glass. However I find only the young really climb. As far as I currently know, Madagascar has closed all flora and fuana exports. 90% of pictus on the market were wild caught.
Just picked up my first pictus gecko at an expo this morning! She is so precious and I know I'll be getting more in the future... I'm already in love❤😂
So happy there are close ups after all! I have to admit I was a bit disappointed about the lack of close ups at first, didn't want to complain about it because you're already making us all these amazing videos so it didn't feel right to complain, but this is making me very happy
I discovered and fell in love with these guys a few months ago. Finally got my hands on them at a local expo last month. Admittedly, I love my leopards more so far for personality and handleability, but I’m sure that’s down to the individual animal. The pictus sure win for bug-eyed cuteness!

For anyone wondering they can and will climb glass, but they rarely do for some reason. I found that out the hard way in my early days of reptile keeping try finding a 4" gecko in a 5-bedroom house lol. they act very much like African fat tailed geckos in terms of being shy. I know what you mean about being hard to find I couldn't find a female to save my life my local pet store only ever got in males. all the online ones I found were unsexed babies. I'm thinking about getting back into them this video reminded me how much I enjoyed having one.
I have a Male Pictus Gecko. I got him a year ago at a pet store that's about 45 minutes from my home. He was about 110 dollars Canadian (I live in Canada). I noticed him on the pet store's facebook page and they had him for awhile. I think because they've become so uncommon, people don't really know about them. I have been waiting for this video for ages! I have a pictus for a year now. They are adorable but mine don't like me. Thanks for sharing all this great information
Regarding their ability to climb, my pictus gecko was somewhat capable of climbing plastics like plexiglass or the plastic used to make critter keepers. But keep in mind that mine was a rescue and was smaller than most pictus geckos due to improper care before I had him. Edit: Also, if anyone in OH is looking for one of these guys, a local breeder called reptiles of eden sells them for about $200-300. I know that's pretty expensive, but she's the only breeder of these geckos that I know of in this state.

Looks like a cross between a leopard & house gecko. :)
Pretty much.
1:56 I'd name him Sauron, with an eye like that.
The clearly better upload
I agree
Could y'all do a video on the Crocodile Gecko? We just rescued two from a local pet store and are having a hard time finding enough info to confirm anything. Thankful there is alot of herping videos with them but would love to know more
Are those like leopard Geckos? When I was little I had one of those and I loved her so much
