You and I cut in the exact same way. It leaves such a beautiful line and clients always love it so much. Thank you for mentioning “feathering” in the chunky line. People don’t realize how that line sticks out. Great painting buddy! I love being a painter.
Just wanted to thank you for all the videos you did. I see you stopped some time ago but I really appreciate it and they were very helpful. I hope you are doing well.
Great video. Following these instructions, I got my first acceptable cut line. Some other tips I might add: make sure the lighting is good, and plan the ladder placement carefully.
I really like the way you cut in. You sure have a steady hand sir. Very good video. Why do some professionals painting contractors tape off on there inside corners. Maybe, they want to make sure they get a perfect straight line.
Thankyou great tip...I was cutting in today and I was about to rip my hair out...I thought I had a steady hand .😂 I was wrong, but tomorrow I’m going to try it your way see how I go 😊
If you slightly clean the side of the brush that goes against the ceiling you can cut it in one stroke, is more faster and will leave no excessive paint. Of course you need to practice in order to get good at it.
First of a dozen videos that does a great job of explaining techniques vs just showing off a steady hand... Great job! My only advice (to myself mostly), use a good brush! Not some shitty dollar store brand...
Your clear instructions and reassuring tone made me believe I'd be great at this on the first try. 😂 Turns out that I need more practice, and did a lot of wiping paint off of other surfaces with a damp cloth. Picture a complete newbie to DIY, who's cack handed, a bit impatient, using watered down paint for a mist coat, which dribbly unless very thinly applied. Not sure why I was so confident I'd smash it, honestly! At least it was just white paint and easy to keep wiping off. No doubt practice will improve my technique. At least I got myself a good cutting in brush, so with thicker paint, and less absorbent walls, I might stand a chance.
This assumes a nice, crisp, straight caulk line... which is a rarity. I'm painting my son's condo, which was apparently caulked by Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder...
I prefer using a 4inch roller when I’m cutting lay paint down bring it lower when I’m doing top cuts makes it easy for roller so they won’t have to get close to ceiling or baseboards
I always have brush lines less than an inch away from the cut in. I'm using Wooster Pro soft bristle brush. I feel like I'm getting plenty of paint on the brush. What am I doing wrong?
Same here. Just using standard trade paint, but once I’ve gone over the main bit with a roller, a lot of the cut-in parts always stand out. Is it just a matter of putting loads of coats on? 🤷🏾♂️
They need ones for how to fix how you went over when you don't have the paint.. can you? I'm still going to use tape because I don't have a way to practice.
You cut in straighter by hand than i do using masking tape 🤣, i’ve just painted my bedroom & cutting in looks darker than the rolled walls 🙈 any ideas or tips ?
fences are usually sprayed, but you can brush and roll them but it just takes much more time because you have to cover all the little tight areas and give it a second coat.
Masking tape is the only way for anyone who needs to look this up. No one here is good enough to cut in that precise, trust me. Save yourself and just mask it off.
You don’t know what you are talking about. All it takes is a good cut in brush and a little practice and it’s done. Tape is expensive and a big waste of time,
@@michaelwpaulin4876 If you're a DIYer, there is no such thing as "practice". Usually it's a one off and you don't do it again for another few years. Tape is expensive? TIME is expensive in having to fix the mistakes from cutting in.
@@larrybudspecially when you add colour against a white. It will take forever to correct it. Absolutely agree, masking is the easiest for someone with no time, i have a toddler and a baby, time feels like gold to me
No nonsense. No excessive unnecessary chat! Perfect ty!
Watching a vid on cutting in is much more enjoyable than actually cutting in.
I did cutting corners of walls today new experience was actually enjoyinble
😆😆😆 he did make it look so easy.

Do not tell your husband that

Cutting in is easy on a smooth wall like that, I'd like to see you cut in on really rough textured wall like I've got.
I felt this comment
Every video is on smooth walls.I noticed that too
It’s the same but you have to wiggle/vibrate the brush as you go
Use frog tape
Yeah, I paint these crappy apartments. The place is a real hellhole. 40 years worth of patches and coats of paint. Rough as hell 😐

Feature walls are really tricky so is cutting in even for a pro so good job man ..
Thank you!
Liked! straight to the point! Thank you sir!

Works well if your corner are straight!
damn thats on point. i spend so much time taping it all up first
So helpful, thank you!

Absolutely amazing brushwork 😀

Great method. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much. Great lesson 👍

Watching cut in videos for S&G, found the Pro. This is how it's done .
Brush is so important for nice cuts 😎

I usually tape and caulk accent walls with clear caulking. But damn your cut in skills are on point 👌🏽
Only amateurs tape and caulk
@@gort3969 only homeowners or cheap contractors/builders say that
I'm thrilled
Nice technique!
Love the paint brush being used. What brand/type is it please?
Uni-pro from Bunnings.
So what brush!
If you're not 100% confident in cutting - Can you still tape off your edges?
Yes, tape is preference
I ALWAYS tape off the vertical edges... Use frog tape
Wow great tip thanks 👍👍👍👍
What brush is being used?
Great vid, mate. Aussies are so good at DIY
Thanks

Sorry I pressed thunbs down by mistake..my bad…
This is only the second painter I've found with this technique.
Zibra 2 inch chiseled wedge: Best edging brush I haev ever used: Amazon or Home Depot

Use frog tape

Cutting in on a straight edge would make it easier.. cut into a ceiling with no coving and then we will talk 😂👊🏽
Love me a square stop feel like he could of water the down a little to minimize those brush marks...
@vaughankapua3758 Ive never done that myself. Ill give it a try when I paint next lol
It as mysterious as I thought.
You cut in straighter by hand than i do using masking tape 🤣, i’ve just painted my bedroom & cutting in looks darker than the rolled walls 🙈 any ideas or tips ?
Roll the walls again to get the same shade as your cutting in
I feel your pain 🎨
Thank you so much this is totally amazing! Your a legend.
Hello, do you have videos to teach how to paint a timber fence?
fences are usually sprayed, but you can brush and roll them but it just takes much more time because you have to cover all the little tight areas and give it a second coat.
Found this technique messy . Better with a good masking tape
I water my paint down to get the perfect line , no smudging, and get the perfect line
No way!!... I ALWAYS use frog tape on the vertical corner edge, to guard against imperfections in the wall
👌
Try that on an uneven wall xD
I see. So the only thing missing from my skills is coordination.
its a lot easier when you have a ledge on the wall to paint against as you pull the brush across.
I’ll just stick with using tape, my hand is not that steady
I'm using the wrong brush😮
Why not just cut the other wall as your gonna be painting it anywauv
Cutting in a whole wall at once 😂😂😂😂 what a gronk
Masking tape is the only way for anyone who needs to look this up. No one here is good enough to cut in that precise, trust me. Save yourself and just mask it off.
I just started cutting in myself and it's that easy not that hard masking tape is pointless to me they have cut in brushes
