When we were planning our recent trip to Puerto Vallarta, my husband happened on this video. We really liked the sound of Rivera del Rio, so we booked it and absolutely loved it! We were in the Alejandro room, so we had a nice big terrace, as well as a small kitchen, 1.5 baths, and direct access to the smaller pool. We also enjoyed the rooftop pool and the amazing sunsets. We really liked the location. Given that it is just slightly removed from the more lively areas, it was very quiet. But plenty of shops and restaurants were just a stroll away. My husband loved the huevos rancheros and had them every morning for breakfast. It's probably also a good thing that Eulo's Bakery is a little further away. We probably would have eaten way too many of their delicious pastries if we had been closer. We did experience low water pressure in the shower a couple of times, but we would happily go back this hotel if we get back to PV another time.
Hi Aly! Appreciated your input about these hotels. We are presently staying at the Riviera Del Rio and I have to say, it’s not my cup of tea. They asked prior if we wanted to upgrade, which we did (wish I hadn’t) one: we don’t know what we originally had and got the Vanity. Room was filthy. I mean footprints on the wall, toilet had urine on it before we used it so not at all happy with that and we told the concierge and he (Max) just smiled and said sorry. I mean this is an upgrade, which is more money so it better be nice but it was not. Breakfast was included which is not worth it and the walk was a bit much. I’m nothing like a (Karen) so please keep these things in perspective. The weather was not as nice for us. Overcast and rain so you do not want to walk the distance plus I have injuries and had to wear my Brooks to do all the walking. No sandal’s girls! And if you’re not getting all inclusive which this hotel is not then you do not want the upgrade especially not the Vanity room. Chairs are uncomfortable and the sink is the worst. I will love to come back but will not stay at Rivera Del Rio again!!
Thanks again for another excellent video. Being Canadian I especially liked that you added Canadian pricing. The best part is I will be in PV tomorrow!!!! I was very interested in the eating places that you pointed out near each hotel. We are staying near the marina, but with their frequent bus service, most places are very accessible.
This was very helpful! We visited in late March and stayed at an all-inclusive in the northern part of PV BUT, we visited the malecon and zona romantica quite a lot. Now that I’ve seen this video I’ll definitely consider a different option for our hotel next time 😊
Nicely done video with great details and information! First time I was in PV was 1989 ! Things have changed a little bit it seems! But I did stay at Posada Del Roger back then too! It was nice and clean and super cheap!
Casa Dona Susana is a great budget choice in Zona Romantica. It's one block from the beach and you get free use of beach chairs and umbrella at their sister property Los Arcos which is across the street.
The Rivera is on my list to stay already. They all look just fine, the Liquida is great. Here’s my own tip, when in town in the hills walk down, taxi up. Casa Kimberly was my go to BnB but has been sold and is an expensive boutique hotel. It was fun living in Liz Taylor’s house for the weeks I spent there but is too costly now. I learned then it was a dollar to get up that hill behind the Cathedral, and is located around the Corner from Liquida.
Try The Encino. Near the Municipal Market. The Costa Club (near the stadium, in Col Olimpica) is also worth mentioning, it is an all inclusive, but they also have non all inclusive packages for a fair price.
Hi Aly...Enjoy your blogs and posts as they contain loads of very useful information. One area of confusion though was your favourite 4 boutique hotels. The first one I checked was Hotel De Roger with the best room price was 34 dollars! I have stayed at this hotel in the past so I know it well. Went to their website to take a look and with a stay during the xmas time frame, the per day price for the cheapest room was about 130 dollars, not 34 dollars or any remotely close. Checking the price for a trip in March for the same room, price about $115 for the cheapest room. Are you sure about the $34 dollar? I can understand a current price increase but this increase now quoted is crazy.
That was the price when I stayed there in early November 2022, so prices will have gone up. I just checked and there are rates for $59. Xmas and popular times like March break are going to be higher.
Greetings, your videos are invaluable as we are preparing for first trip to puerto vallarta. TY, when booking a hotel, how do you suggest we do that? Directly on line to the hotel? Cheers.
A great video series. I am planning to come in December in the week before Christmas with my daughters 17 and 22. Can you recommend some hotels suitable and safe for us?
I can't go this winter. I visited PV 30 years ago, so I kind of know the area. I want to go next winter for a week here and there. I'm thinking of just booking my flight and finding a hotel when I arrive. When I went 30 years ago in early January PV was only 30% Booked up, so there was lots of rooms available. I would first like to go without booking a hotel and then stay in a few hotels to see a variety of places and styles. I'm self employed, I'm not poor, but thrifty. some nights I'd be alright with finding a cheap hotel and some go for a $200 or $300/night room. I'm currently single, but I may invite a lady to join me. Any suggestions about my trip ideas that I have mentioned in this post? Cheers! I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Very tough choice! The pool scene is slightly better at Rivera (there's a bar up there and the pool is heated) - so if you want a little more lively go with Rivera. If you're after quiet & relaxation and like doing your own thing, Luna would be it. The rooftop area is larger and there's a cooler for your drinks and there are 2 community kitchens if you want to make any meals.
For Luna Liquida, does every room have a private bathroom or is it shared per floor in the common area? Some other videos seem to imply the rooms themselves don't have private bathrooms but all the room descriptions online say they do. Also outside of one shot in this video at the larger room all the other photos don't seem to show private bathrooms. Also the photos on booking sites show the same bathroom for both Sirena rooms for example. It's a tad confusing.
Hey Alex which rooms are you looking at specifically? We've seen inside 5 rooms here and they all had private bathroom. I have pics of several - let me know which rooms you're considering and I'll see if I have photos showing the bathrooms
You mentioned in your video that a hot breakfast was served each morning at Rivera del Rio Boutique Hotel - based on that I assumed that it was included but when I checked their web site for room reservations it showed that the breakfast was $14US - is it included or an optional extra - thanks.
Hi Ally, I have Global Entry. Do I need Sentri? Is there anything else I need to know when traveling to Mexico? I've been to Mexico before on a cruise. The cruise line took care of everything. I am thinking of going to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta to a resort. Thanks!
Not odd! Each of these hotels have normal toilets in which you can flush the toilet paper. In some more rural areas or older establishments they may have signs asking you to place tissue in the garbage
Any of them except Casa Maria which is adults only - I will say most of these hotels are better suited for adults or at least teenagers and older. I'm not sure what age your kids are but you might want to check out Los Arcos or perhaps somewhere bigger that has more pools like the Sheraton.
@FairyFangs I was referring to you. The fact that you couldn't figure that out tells me you work for minimum wage. You better get back to stocking those shelves or flipping those burgers.
Just spent the last 4 nights at Casa Maria, the week before Christmas. The price was $111 the weekday nights at 168 for Friday night. It was wonderful.
We have been visiting Vallarta since the 80's. We never stay in old town any more AKA Zona Romantica.. Too busy. Too many tourists. It is over run. If you want to save some $ on accoms, try the S end of the "hotel zone". There you will find small posadas for a great price. Small hotels where Mexicans stay. So there are less turistas under foot. After all, you are in Mexico, why not stay at a hotel where you will meet Mexicans? Instead of dealing with blank eyed blanco gentes?
Let me know if you end up staying at one of these! Hotels in video in order 👇:

Aly. I was in Vallarta in 2016, loved it. Your videos are great and up to date. I'm looking to visit this year as a solo traveller.
Have fun!
Just checked out of Casa Maria today! It was wonderful! Terrific service and amazing location.

Such a great video, interesting and informative, will definitely check out at least one of these hotels on my next visit to Puerto Vallarta :))

Great overall review, thanks!
Can you suggest any beach clubs? Cost?

@@alysmalls thank you so much.

It depends on the place! I usually price shop first on Plannin, Booking and Expedia to get an idea
@alysmalls ty. Also how was the walk up luna luquida and Rivera del rio?
Great Video Ali. Do the hotels do monthly rentals? Rivera Del Rio is a great. I have heard of it but your walk through sold me. Good value as well.
I believe Rivera Del Rio and Luna Liquida do...at least those would be my top 2 choices for an extended stay :)
I love wee hotels! Cheers from Vancouver Island
Very good video, have you done one for Bucerias
Yes, I did a part 1 here: ruclips.net/video/mDgGK5VYKGI/видео.html and I'm coming out with a part 2 of where to stay in Bucerias in a few days :)
Great places Ally 👍🏻🙏

Hmmm it sounds like they're charging for breakfast now 😥 prices/costs are going up like crazy in PV
When did you go to Casa Maria? It is showing around $240 cad per night in January
early December. Hotel prices are dynamic, which is why it's best to book as early as possible
Nice

No Sentri required
You may find this an odd question but I've heard that you cannot flush the toliet paper in some areas....is that the case at these hotels?

@@alysmalls Thanks for the prompt response. Considering all of these versus the all inclusive that we normally stay in.
Great information. How about the language barrier? My Spanish is rusty.
No need to speak Spanish, everyone at these hotels spoke perfect English (although saying a few words in Spanish is always appreciated)
Ok well..I think these are really remarkable places to stay. Although I think they are all beautiful hotels.
Hello
Great videos
I want to book one of these places. It's for my wife and I and two kids.
Which would you recommend for a family of 4.

I saw a video about a resort there, that included food, going for $1,000 (US) a night. Ridiculous. I wouldn't pay that in the US.
