Hello! It's more a typical dish that transcended as a street food to the cities and now abroad for the masive inmigrantion. It comes from the "llanos venezolanos" (Venezuelan flatlands) were cattle is raised.It's eaten with chopped fried pork and/or "carne asada" (grilled beef) on the side.The recommended cheeses for it are called "guayanés" or "telita", which melt just fine inside. I'm glad you enjoyed.

Soooo live in Europe and my bf and I went on city trip to Brussels. And we walked down this street and I saw this Venezuelan tiny restaurant that had arepas. I was like I know arepas let me get some real once. But saw a picture of a cachapa and it looked so good, and i was like I'm gonna take that because I've never had that and the guy was like try it with white cheese avocado and tomatoes in it. I took it to go because my bf wanted to eat at this place he knew, so we where going to eat there together. But I was like let me take a quick bite YOOO!!!! My taste buds and mind where blown away 🤯 !!!!! I ate the whole thing and every bite was like hmmm... I'm telling you try that with the tomatoes and avocado literally the best thing ever!!!

Wow I been eating cachapas since I was little back in the 80s and it’s just corn, flour (or PAN corn meal) sugar, milk and egg(optional) cheese and that’s it, what used to be poor food it’s now a big cultural food to appreciate.
As a Venezuelan I'd say cachapas are better than arepas on average if they're both with cheese. Tho some really amazing arepas with stuff like avocado, beans and/or chicharron are to die for.
Sadly that shit's expensive so cheese is the most I can afford these days, even cachapas themselves are rare for me, compared to the daily or twice daily arepas.

I’m Mexican and the first time I tried this in a festival but the vendor called them arepas
jennie maldonado it’s not the same. Those are arepas Colombianas de maíz. Ours is not an arepa is made with real corn and taste different. Similar but not the same at all.
If you like our venezuelan food try pabellon criollo, tequenos, snd empanada de cazon! Also try malta, chicha and papelon beverages!👍

@Thailys Freites De Valcarcel well if you're overseas and can't get your hands on some fresh corn, certain corn flours (especially made for cachapas) work good enough.
