I went to grade school both in Puerto Rico and USA. I hated the food in Puerto Rico growing. But once I started school in the USA I realized how good I had it in PR with the food. The lunches served in the USA are not cooked meals. Food is just heated and served, while in Puerto Rico those lunch ladies were real cooks.

In part. My school however got for a few years arroz integral, and we as kids hated it as it wasn't easy to cook it. The internal rice was part soggy part hard as a rock literally therefore the only days most kids at my school actually made the line was when it was white rice. My school made delicious white rice.

I loved school lunches in Puerto Rico. When my parents divoreced my dad pretty much forgot about us and my mom wasnt able to work so we barely had food in my house and i would look forward for lunch time and the lunch ladies were so nice because they knew in the community who struggled at home wiht food shortage so they woulkd give the very poor kids like i was extras because the more privileged kids hated lunch at school and would have money to but pizzas and hamburgers off the food trucks that would be parked at the fence of our school. I never took for granted what i had at the time and till this day i am so grateful for those ladies who knew who needed food in their bellies as a means to just get by through the day.

I am a native Puertorrican and went to school over there until I start my professional education. I have to tell y'all that in my school years we were not allow to eat twice but only once. Since my mom was the head chef she didn't care about the rule and would prefer that any kid who wanted a second round she will serve them regardless. During my high school years, my friends would eat already during their time while I was in class. Still, they will eat again after I get out of class to go with me LOL. Even so, they will stand again (after finishing the food on the second round) on the line with the tray and the chef will serve them again. They were courageous by doing that and breaking the rule. I will tell my mom what they did and my mom will say that it's okay because at the end there were a lot of kids throwing the food away and the remaining of the food was given to the pigs. At least there were others eating it and She preferred to serve it to those who will eat it.

Besides the fact that kids didn't eat fruit off trees, school lunch was a big shocker... I missed my Puertorican school lunch so much.

I mean, we did get these lunches at school every day. The only bad thing is that most of the food was canned goods with little to no seasoning. I went to around 4 different schools and you were at the mercy of the lunch ladies deciding to season things a bit so they were tastier. Towards the end of my high school career, they made some changes to menus and added more fresh fruit and meat options. The bad part is that they switched the regular white rice to whole grain brown rice and it was HORRIBLE! No school knew how to cook it properly so they were extra dry and "uncooked" feeling.

The Dominican one should be a little box of chocolate milk with a pan sobao (I really don’t know how to say pan sobao in English, but is a type of bread) and that’s it😂😂😂

Yes kids prefer Burgers and Pizza. Here in Nicaragua it's just Rice and Beans in School. Burgers and Pizza are expensive, it's a luxury. Instead of buying a "Pizza" people here can buy 5 pounds of rice and beans and they will have three meals. These "Americanized Latinos" don't know
