This is insightful and beautiful to watch about the Salvadoran experience in the US. I’m Mexican and I grew with a Salvadoran best friend whose family treated me so good as if I was family to them, I remember my friends grandma always speaking about her pulgarcito and the joy in her eyes when she talked about it . I admire Salvadoreños so much, the hardships and struggles that you’ve been through is tough but to watch you persevere is inspiring . Very humble people and prideful of their pulgarcito. I love Salvadoran food ❤️ I send my hugs and love to all salvadoreños ❤️ se les quiere un chingo 🇸🇻🇲🇽❤️ I wish my Mexican people were more abiertos and less ignorant and I apologize for all the shit they say, just know not all of us have that dislike for you. I went to a Black Catholic School and when my mom would pick me up, I would not speak to her in Spanish because I did not want to be different then my friends. I remember my mom told me I was gonna have a quince and I told her I did not want one but...it was a non negotiable. She had been planning it since my birth. I can relate so much. I'm a first generation Salvi-American. I went to El Salvador for the first time last year to see my grandfather before he passed away. We stayed at my aunt's house in San Salvador and all my cousins and aunts were so happy to teach me their slang and culture. It was so beautiful. We went to Centro Comercial Galeria. A little history was left from my father's childhood. The house inside was the house my father grew up in with his sisters and brothers before it was bought. They kept the marble from the house and they were so excited when we got back and showed me photos of how the house looked back then. Seeing and being part of my culture I felt so nervous and disconnected, that the trip alone was such a great way to connect with a culture I only heard stories about. I can't wait to go again next year for Christmas!

I never really see people like me. Like a lot of the times I have a hard time understanding when people who don’t have salvi accents and dialect try to talk to me in Spanish. And I was raised with Spanish my whole life but I’m not a good speaker I’m better at understanding. Usually in these Latino videos I have a general idea of what they are saying but I actually understood what the hell they where saying. It was so interesting to finally be able to relate to people on my culture. Finally being able to be like “yeah my dad won’t let me go back to see El Salvador.” And these people also understanding why my dad wouldn’t want to go back there with children. The only people that regularly visit are my grandparents because they do still have a lot of family and land there. The rest of my aunts and uncles in America won’t let me or my cousins go. It’s just really nice to have people understand you and your culture a little better then other Latinos or non Latinos that think your Mexican.
