My wife, who is from Japan, and I were having dinner on our first wedding anniversary about four blocks south of Coors Field that night. It was cold, almost snowing. When we left the restaurant to drive home, we found the game on the radio and listened to the call as Nomo completed the no-hitter. Good times!
This is one of the most impressive because this was Coors at the height of the steroid era and before baseballs were kept in a humidor at Denver's altitude.
Randomly saw Nomo at a mall in Hawaii back in the late 90's. I was sitting on a bench, and the first thing that caught my eyes, were two ginormous calves?!! I immediately looked up and saw that it was him. Let me tell you, this dude is built like a linebacker!! On TV his built looks nothing like it does in person... I was impressed!
Nomo’s no-no was the most improbable considering the venue (Coors Field), the opponent (Rockies scored 961 runs in 1996), a two hour rain delay before first pitch.
On April 16, 1940, Bob Feller threw the first Opening Day no-hitter in history. Nomo’s one with the Red Sox was earlier in April, but it was in game 2 of the season, so technically not earlier in the season.
Lmfao everyone chiming in with their opinions on the greatest no-hitter. Well everyone, feel free to make your own video about your greatest no-hitter ever.
Try throwing a no-hitter at Coors Field against that Rockies line-up with a 0.302 team batting avg. Still the only no-hitter at Coors Field in more than 31 seasons. Not again in our lifetime?
I disagree. This is the only no hitter that most people talk about to this day. It hasn't been done since. Not sure if you have been to Coors field but it is a batters park 100%. Plus, that line up the Rockies had were no slouches by any means.
Ummm....yeah....I'm a Red Sox fan since conception, and I have to bring up a Yankee, DON LARSEN, who threw a PERFECT GAME TO CLOSE OUT THE WORLD SERIES....that simply is the greatest pitching game ever, no argument. It is most likely the greatest single game achievement in all of sports history(with AL BUNDY's 4 td game being the only exception)
A Japanese player would strike me as a baseball player who would probably be dubious on the Coors effect unless someone explained it to him. I think its fairly normal in Japan.
It's a great one. But I think randy Johnson did it. He was just so clearly intimidating to hitters. Never seen anything like it. Like Pedro and Nolan Ryan were intimidating, but randy size and left handed pitching seemed to just shake everyone in the box
Just a hunch: he threw the ball, they failed to get a clean hit? It happens. Like Humber tossing a perfecto, then going 2-26 6.78 or whatever the rest of his career.
"ESPN cutaway from the Aaron Judge at bat...." ............ ??? You mean ESPN was broadcasting Aaron Judge playing stick ball in his backyard in 1996 when he was 4 years old? Wow.... Talk about growing up in the media spotlight..... Lol. Not sure who you meant to say but would be about 20 more years before we heard who Aaron Judge was

Cold night hard fastball an great splitter

His windup was so wild. I wish there was another one like it in the MLB right now
Nomo pitched out of a stretch for the entire no hitter game though. 😂
Absolutely the greatest, most challenging, most unexpected and one of the most underrated, under appreciated achievement in sports history.

How would you even recognize him of all people
6:44 “balls were shrinking in the clubhouse” 😂😂😂
*lockerroom
Lol, almost missed that steriod reference
Big fan of the Ryne Sandberg footage when talking about the retirement clause. Well done, sir.
Your videos are excellent, I think you deserve more subs
Hideo Nomo was a beast
I watched that game from start to finish, and yes, it was very impressive.

okay, opinion gate keeper.
@@elasmojones I’m not gatekeepimg anything. All I’m suggesting is that people make their own video supporting their opinion on the greatest no-hitter.
@@elasmojones Gatekeeper 🤣🤣😂😂 that sounds about right. That title for this video is straight up hilarious!!!

Most guys can't finish a game anymore, either due to usage, or coaches yanking them. But I'm sure we'll see another there someday.
The OG.
I think Sandy Koufax’s perfect game was the greatest and most dominant no hitter and perfect game to boot
Don Larson world series 👌 ❤
Varitek caught four no-hitters. That’s crazy
The title should’ve been: in your opinion the greatest no-hitter!
Because most people would say it’s not.
Exactly.

I would say that it is. Am I most people?
I think jim abbott no hitter takes the cake. Man only had 1 hand....
8:40 …ESPN cut away from the Aaron Judge at bat! 😂😂😂😂😂
I was coming to say the same thing. You were 1st. I had to listen to it twice, just to make sure.
Yeah I'm confused, what was he referring to / what name was he supposed to say??
@@battingathousand5849 I think it was a joke. Showing now ESPN is obsessed with Aaron Judge.
The only reason why dock ellis' no no is mentioned, is because he was high on acid ! If you can do that, you good!
"Balls were shrinking in the locker room"........LMFAO😂😂
After providing us his entire biography for some reason, he finally gets to the point at about 5:30.
NOMOMANIA! I remember.
40 year old Randy Johnson's No Hitter
And then there was nomo,Nomo

No body messes with Al Bundy Sir 🤣 Thanks for the laugh!
Great accomplishment but not even close to Don Larsen's no-hitter, in a World Series!! and Jim Abbott's with one freaking hand!!
A Japanese player would strike me as a baseball player who would probably be dubious on the Coors effect unless someone explained it to him. I think its fairly normal in Japan.
Japanese players are not ignorant of the effects of altitude.
16-11 wasn't his recird in 1995, it was 13-6. 16-11 was his record in 1996
Pretty sure the greatest No-Hitter lists, start with Perfect Games...
lol I was thinking similarly.
What about Don Larsen throwing a perfecto in the World Series?
Idk how you top that.
@@riltalk4055a lil off topic but I believe jack Morris’s 10 inning shutout in game 7 of the 91 World Series the best pitching performance ever

Didn't Ubaldo Jimenez throw a perfect game at Coors?
No one has thrown a no hitter since.
Really better than Felix perfect game in 2011? Many baseball ⚾️ people say it was the best since the perfect game of the World Series
Didn’t Matt Cain have 14 strikeouts in his perfect game(Not saying strikeouts are the only measurement of quality pitching)?
Never hear of Harvey Haddix?
Not even close to any no-hitter thrown by Koufax, Ryan or Ellis
Roy Hobbs
Koufax's perfect game
relevance?
@@fartkicker was, IMO, the greatest no-hitter of all time
Sorry but you are entirely wrong here, Dock Ellis' no hitter thrown on June 12, 1970 was the greatest no hitter of all time

Doc Ellis is only correct answer wtf
Did he forget Umbaldo Jimenez just did it in ‘10 which was 14 years after Nomo
His was in Atlanta.
