Norwegian helicopter Induces a Rock Fall beside a Fjord

  • A helicopter smacks down a rock off a cliff face to eliminate a rock fall hazard for the road below. The helicopter then displays its dominance of the Fjord by urinating all over the rock face. This is done to loosen and remove any remaining small rocks that may fail at another time and cream a volvo or saab on the road below.
The scaling occurred at Oppdølstranda on Nordmøre, Norway. Thanks to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for making this great video and sending it to me!

That-was-AWESOME! Absolutely the most impressive clip I have seen in quite awhile. Just the fact that the authorities there in Norway had the forethought to take the needed action to not only knock the loose slab of rock down but then to make certain the cliff face was not holding onto any semi-loose rocks they went ahead and washed the rest down with water that probably was the equivalent of a years worth of rain/runoff. Very cool!

If this was in Portugal, we would creat a comitee to study what could be done. First the comitee should choose it s members, usually from the political party in power. Than, the comitee would spend a few million years in studies for some years, but all the studies would need a post-check from a previously created comitee. Than some would start wondering why this comitee was working for so many years, spending public Money and would start taking legal actions. The comitee would break, it s members would move along to other comitees or back in politics and everyone would forget about it. Than the rocks would finally colapse and kill someone. This would be on the news for a month and we would reach the conclusion that it was actually nobody s fault and although something could have been done to prevent it we should just hope it wont happen again and pray to God.

A long tunnel have now been built past this area. The road you see in the video is now closed for all traffic. I drove through the tunnel just a couple of weeks ago. During my childhood we drove a lot on this road. Sometimes it was closed because of rock fall or avalanches. It is risky driving along Norwegian fjords during heavy rain showers because of the unstable hillsides.

This makes perfect sense! Route 299 in Northern California has those metal screens to keep boulders off the road. You can look up and see the heavy weight of rocks the size of large cars! Still, you have to swerve to avoid the medium size ones that escape. Very risky during winter/ early spring. Cal-Trans needs to do something like this!

The description mentions concerns of "small rocks that may fail at another time and cream a Volvo or Saab on the road below." A large rock could probably smash a Saab, but for a Volvo if the entire mountain came down on top of it, it would be a nuisance as the driver would have to wait a while for the rescue crews to dig him out before he could resume his journey in his turbo brick. Might need to get some scratches in the paint fixed, that would also be a minor nuisance. We can't let that sort of hassle happen!
Great video though, first time I've ever seen a helicopter with a wrecking ball - great idea.

This clip is approximately 3 and a half minute of pure info with only relevant visuals and no redundant sounds.
If this was any US TV program/show, the relative length of this clip would be around 74 days long, and explaining in-depth how hurricanes almost toss the helpless helicopter around who was just adopted by an orphan who won the local award at age 23 for master engineering in the esteemed Angola university and ear piercing super dramatic free sample audio trying its best to overpower the presenter who is trying his best to scream despite his 10 000$ theatre classes and voice cord operation to sound like the Hollywood trailer presenter who was his dad's idol but sadly passed away when he was 9 and that left him with a will but first he had to go on a super dangerous expedition to the local mountain top at 200m with lethal obstacles like a fallen tree stump in the way and let's not forget about the fantastic engineering that a helicopter is, of which the pilot has trained for YEARS for this VERY task (like it's not his job) and if this rock wasn't forced to fall down it would actually FALL DOWN and cause the deaths of millions of people and might have caused a tsunami that could reach the shores of CALIFORNIA and in California right now there's a shortage of water but did you know that sea water is salt and you can't really drink it it has been scientifically proven by TOP SCIENTISTS and before I go on for another 72 minutes before showing a 5 second relevant clip we will now cut to a 15 minute long commercial break where we show you all our new shiny new products that nobody needs but you have to buy for the money you don't earn and mind you the 15 minute breaks are every 5 minutes and ...
Oh yeah. Obviously I'm joking/taking a jab, but the worst part.......
..... is that despite a joke, I'm not so sure I'd actually be that far off
