Welcome to One Man Bands! Each week I take a popular musical artist and write a song inspired by their style, this week the artist is ROYAL BLOOD.

I thought this would be a fun way to introduce the concept of One Man Bands and I am really happy with the way this song came out. The body of this video is my method of putting the song together, then you can hear my song at the end of the video at 20:42
Diving into Royal Blood's music to create this song has been an absolute pleasure and a fun restriction in only having 2 instruments to use; the ways Royal Blood use to get around this limitation are a key part of how I wrote this song.

Really good video mate. Love how you broke down all the tricks he uses for playing and singing at the same time. All the same things I had picked up on myself. You explained it all brilliantly though. I never comment on videos either but found this really impressive so fair play to you sir.

They're such a clever band, more so than I think most people give them credit for, it's seriously hard to get two instruments sounding so big, I'd love to revisit them now Typhoons is out and is such a departure from their original style. Well done John, cover was fantastic, sound was spot on... amazing rendition... keep going... guessing you are using a DAW and getting your "amps" from there, rather than physical... what tech are you using?
Thanks ever so much man! I've experimented with a few different combos of amp sims but keep coming back to Amplitube, then for heavier stuff I'm a big fan of the Archetype plugins as well. Funnily enough I used a lot of stock Logic plugins for this specific one, but the more recent stuff is Amplitube or Archetype!
If we talking about bass, here's idea for the next one: Bassinvaders. "Romance In Black", "Godless Gods', "Dead From The Eyes Down', "Razorblade Romance" - those are the songs that you definetely should check out.
Thing is, there are a normal amount of people in the band, but there's no guitar. Only basses. Three of them.
I will have a listen and see what I can make of them!

Thanks a million! For this one if I remember rightly it was quite heavily dependent on tape saturation as it sounded quite common in Royal Blood's music at the time. Off the top of my head it will have been Vocal Rider > FabFilter ProQ > FabFilter ProC 2 > SSL Channel Strip (Waves) > GW VoiceCentric (Waves) > Kramer Tape (Waves) with the tape emulator being hit pretty hard

patrick hanbury okay those are serious suggestions, I’ve been on a Tool binge recently, if I can somehow learn all the parts for a Tool song then I’m absolutely doing it
What amps/software did you use for this?
I mainly used Amplitube, but for this there were a few different amp sims running side by side, one of which was Logic's stock bass amp designer!
