- The Festool Compact Modular System (CMS) consists of a sturdy folding platform and a number of interchangeable tool units. I have already made videos featuring the CMS with the saw insert (CMS TS). Here I demonstrate the setting up and commissioning of the CMS Router unit (CMS OF). In this video, Part 1, the router is prepared and then attached to the CMS module. In Part 2 the setup is completed and is followed by a demonstration of it being used for raised panel work.
Shame Festool does not make this anymore, would have loved to buy one...
Hi Sorin, I agree, particularly as there is no replacement or follow-on product. Cheers. Peter
A wonderful presentation Peter. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Just got mine a couple of days ago and unboxed today. What an amazing piece of engineering and machining. Flawless.. can't wait to get it assembled.
Just watched your video on the Festool vacuum which like all your videos I find interesting and well presented. I took your advise and just purchased your novel. The plot some interesting and I will read it during my holiday at Easter.
Hi Graham
Thank you for buying a copy of the e-book. I put a lot of effort into it and hope that you enjoy it. Please would you put a review on Amazon when you have read it - it really will help.
Many thanks.
Peter
I just got my set with the OF2200. This video is really is great and a lot more useful getting started than the manual. Good job and thank you very much.
Hi Rikard, Many thanks for the feedback. The OF2200 s a fantastic router and one of the 3 very best tools made by Festool.. Cheers. Peter
3 years later, but... Did the OF2200 fit your router table? I was under the understanding the CMS tables only fit up to the OF1400. Please let me know what model number you have if that is the case: I am almost deciding to go another route than Festool because it won't hold a strong enough router for my work. Thanks a lot!
@@unamor It works great, but it seems Festool is discontinuing the CMS system. The 2200 is not supported in the CMS table in the US, but that is for electrical reasons, not mechanical. Something to do with the switch and 110V.
@@Eorlingur Thanks a lot for your insight! I had no idea the system was going to be discontinued. I have decided to go with a Triton TRA001 and build my own table. Unfortunately, I need the portability and power associated with a 2200. The 1400 for what I need it doesn't really cut it (no pun intended). Thanks again!
@@unamor That is going to be a nice setup for less money. The OF2200 is really a bit too nice to use as a dedicated table router.
One thing to note if you are using an OF 1400 router, is that the handle that sticks out of the right side (when mounted to the table) of the OF 1400 and the attached router's power chord will interfere with the CMS table's on/off switch that's also mounted on the right side. In addition, the dust collection port when attached to the OF 1400 is on the right side which makes it even worse. Even if you can get it hooked up, the router lift can't raise it all the way up. I struggled with it for a quite a while before I realized that there's an allen key screw inside the bottom of the cube shaped plastic piece that the CMS on/off switch is attached to. Loosening that screw allows you to slide the CMS's on/off switch back and forth until it's out of the way. It's attached to the channel in the bottom of the side piece. You might be able to take it off and put it on the left side, but I didn't bother after I moved it towards the back.
Hi Bob, Mine does not do any of what you describe and I can only think that you have put the router in the wrong way. Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop You know - I was watching your video again, and I noticed that your on/off switch is different than mine. It could be because mine is newer, or it also might be that I have the MFT/3-VL - the table part only has two legs because it's made to attach to the side of an MFT/3's V-channel. You can see one of these being used in ruclips.net/video/Db5mAeVxxW8/видео.html - and it seems like the Festool guy has already moved his on/off from where it was when shipped. You can see it's been moved towards the MFT3 table. Plus - your switches are over/under - mine are side by side like the one in the video.
Hi Bob, Interesting. Cheers. Peter
Great vid peter that's a really nice setup one day get some festool stuff
Hello Peter, could you recommend an all-round router setup/system? I've watched all your videos on the Festool routers, the UJK router table and this CMS router unit. As mush as i love the festool routers and the UJK router table, you don't seem to pair it together and you've gotten a separate deWalt router.
Hi Georgie, My Festool CMS-OF has the Festool OF1400 in it and it works really well. The down side is that the fence is not very good. The UJK setup had a brilliant fence and the cast iron top made everything so solid and secure. The dust collection is not as good as the Festool setup though. If starting from scrat then look at the UJK setup paired with something like the Dewalt DW 625. You could spend more and the Woodworkers Workshop have a fine display of router table options. Good luck. Peter
Hi Peter. I have one question. Do you know why Festool discontinued the CMS router table. After a year I’m now ready to buy one and they are no longer available. Very disappointing. If you could shed some light on the reason for discontinuing sales that would help me very much.
Hope you are well, Eric
Hi Eric, I do not know the reason but it might be an issue conforming to new electrical regulations in certain countries or it may just not have sold very well given the amount of other router tables on the market. I have the CMS-OF and love it. You might be able to pick one up on ebay. Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop thank you Peter. I enjoy your videos very much. And I very much like the Parf bore cutting jig. I own one and it’s fun to use. Thanks, Eric
Is the table flat on these tables. I checked one in a local shop and it was way out. What is yours like?
Hi John, Absolutely flat but they are no longer being made and you may have difficulty finding one for sale. Peter
Hello Peter. I was wondering when you will do a review of the FESTOOL KS120 EB KAPEX. You have had it for some time now and we need your valued comments about it. Im thinking of getting the FESTOOL KS120 EB KAPEX or the Bosch Bosch GCM 12 GDL 305mm Axial-Glide Mitre Saw.
Hi Chris
I have had the Kapex on my to-do list for a long time now. I have about 3 months of video work in hand right now and will do my very best to help.
If it helps...
It is a great saw. I spent 3 months doing market research before buying it and I did consider the new Bosch which was being released at that time.
It is expensive but is so accurate that the benefit will be reflected in the quality of your woodwork and the joy of using such a great tool. It is quick to set up for angle cuts.
I would still buy the Kapex today if I wanted a new saw.
Peter
Peter Parfitt Thats all I need to know. It looks like you only spend your money on top stuff so thats good enough for me. Thanks Peter.
Thanks for the video Peter. Do you know if this CMS table will work with the Festool OF2000? Thanks!
Christopher Kelby Hi Christopher, I am not sure what changes were made between the OF2000 and the OF2200. You would get an answer very quickly if you raise that question on the Festool Owners Group (FOG). Cheers. Peter
Thanks Peter!
@@ckkelby What did you find out, Chris? I know it's been a while, but I am in the market for a table with a router that's more powerful than the OF1400. Thanks in advance!
@@unamor Unfortunately it does t fit the OF2000. I ended up getting a Kreg table and mount and PC for table work. Really sad too, I want the 2000 table mounted but alas it’s a big honking plunge router for me
@@ckkelby Thanks a lot for your swift reply after all these years! I know, and I don't understand why their largest and hardest to maneuver router is also the one that is not capable of being mounted to a table. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks a lot for your suggestion! I will look for those alternatives.
Well Peter. Do you know where I can buy one of these? They seem to have been discontinued in Ireland and the UK.
Hi Cathal, They no longer make these and the Precisio is the new small table saw. You are unlikely to find any dealer with the old CMS-TS in stock. Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop Thanks Peter. Festool replied to my enquiry today, they said they have no future plans on designing a new router table either.
Just out of curiosity, are all of Festool's router plunge style? Are any of them fixed base, or is one available?
Hi Brett, They do have some edging machines like the MFK but the 3 main routers (2200, 1400 and 1010) are all plunge. Peter
New Brit Workshop thank you!
