Was just thinking this. The primary difference between mass effect and games with other "woke" tendencies is that the story and acting of mass effect are incredible. Most games that feature overly progressive themes are doing so in the absence of a story/game that "stands" on it's own. I see no problem with inclusion when the characters are given the love and care necessary for a good story. Most bioware games were progressive but everybody loved them. I've enjoyed almost every game they made up until anthem and can't recall any character that was cheaply tracked on for diversity points from even a single title.
@@Mattfreeman89 Mass effect was the last time conservative media got mad at a video game in any meaningful way, both due to the gay romance and the sex. It was a tipping point for all of these things because it did everything so well. Now we have the opposite of the past, and the leftist nuts are running the show. It's hard to remain consistent with your beliefs, you will end up switching sides if you do so.
Imagine being capable of making murder robots and choosing to put yourself in the line of fire instead? Like why go get shot when you could not get shot?
How dare you?! Are you trying to erase disabled people? Disability Is not something that you can cure! She's perfectly capable of doing operative stuff as she is...with the help of two giant robots
From my understanding of how the operator is gonna play from the way the devs explained it 1. She isn't going to be on the map in the game, so players can't attack her. 2. She can switch between the robots but can only control one at a time. 3. If the robots take too much damage, they become inoperable, and it treats that as like a sort of "death" for this character. In summary, it's basically more like having an extra life, but technically, the enemy could destroy your extra robot before destroying the one you're currently playing. Sounds complicated. 🤷♂️
Looking at the character, I get flashbacks of people picking Oddjob in "GoldenEye 007". The low height of that character made it essentially a cheat to use. It wouldn't shock me if Ubisoft used this exploit as a "diversity balance" mechanism within this game.
R6S 2016: Operators based on real life counter-terrorist units like GIGN, GSG9 and FSB Alfa, which have very high physical, psychological and health requirements. R6S 2024: Operators with prosthetic limbs, poor eye-sight and now wheelchair.
The very reason I stopped playing. It's like a totally different game now. The serious, gritty game I loved is gone. I joined in 2016 and it was the best for the next two years. After that it all went down hill.
They ran out of ideas i guess. But i kinda fuck with it ngl, the execution is not really good and in poor taste but the idea of an operator controlling multiple robots to do their job and they just sit back is kinda cool, but very out of place for the semi realistic setting of R6
I'm a wheelchair operator, it's disability washing if they don't make other players wipe your arse for you. Disabilities aren't a costume, they actually negatively effect you. Otherwise wearing glasses would be one.
What about glasses? I guess you could be saying needing to wear glasses isn't a disability? I have no idea despite needing them myself. I know I'm wrong saying needing them might not be a disability but I honestly don't know for sure. I want to know. I don't really understand the last sentence. 🙁
@@eugeniaamariei8626 Unless you need special considerations to properly function in society, it's not a disability. Disability is when your surroundings need to accommodate you to give you a chance at a normal life. I wear glasses as well, and it's an inconvenience, not an actual disability.

Abathur is actually fun and liked by the community plus meme material, and he is a creature never meant to see direct combat that got into HotS only because people liked him in HotS and wanted him in HotS (good job on the acronyms, Blizzard). I can already see how gamers will be "ableist" and "hateful" for rejecting this even though nobody has a problem with Bedman in GG because that's a ridiculous Anime game and he actually makes sense in that setting and is believable. You could also totally put a legless character in Overwatch or something with the right tech, but unless I'm mistaken, Rainbow 6 is supposed to be somewhat grounded in reality so they are legit expecting us to believe that not only does that disabled woman work as a military operative, but is also present on-scene in the line of fire. Realistically, if we had somebody piloting armed humanoid drones like that (ignoring that making them humanoid makes little sense and if this was to happen, we'd be more likely to get dog-like robots), there's no way she wouldn't be sitting either somewhere completely different or at least within some armoured truck away from the line of fire. There's no practical reason she should ever be in the actual building, trying to protect herself as well as control her drones. The main benefit of having these bots in the first place would be sending them in when there's no save way for humans to approach the target to limit danger to your people. And all of that would apply even if she could walk. She shouldn't be on site with her laptop, period. The wheelchair just exacerbates the issue into outright ridiculousness.
One wonders why counter terrorism units had to get a disabled lady to pilot the robots as opposed to literally anyone else. But then they decide to send her into the field. Which i think might actually be illegal in most countries.

Decades ago, SNL did a mini “documentary” about a WW2 Allied force called The Walker Brigade. It was a group of able-bodied men that used walkers (the ones old folks use) on the battlefield. The reason was because according to the Geneva Convention, “…the enemy cannot shoot at, capture, take hostage of, torture or taunt any soldier who has a convalescence device.” They dropped into France on D-Day and were all killed by the Germans, who didn’t care much for the Geneva Convention.
@@Dr.W.Krueger Well that and the Soviets were known to target Medics, something forbidden under the Geneva conventions, which likely prompted the Germans to "respond in kind" until the Geneva conventions were but an afterthought.
Next move : The importance we place on diversity has led us to completely revise our maps... to avoid discrimination, maps will no longer require climbing stairs or jumping to reach zones... of course this doesn't mean that our maps will only be single-level zones, as wheelchair-accessible ramps will be added to some of them to add 1.50m of verticality.
i said this before, it would be more interesting, if, instead, she had a spider version of those boston dynamics robots, and they allowed her to climb walls and ceiling. which would give her a unique advantage. that was born from her disability. as is, anyone could operate those robots, it doesnt need to be her. but if she was, instead, something of a semi cyborg spider woman? in a game like siege? i feel like it would offer not only a new gameplay style worthy of investing into, but also make her disability into a strength for her.

Also, she's already strapped to a chair, she would give bad guys an easy hostage target. Total Insanity.
Any people bearing an handicap or a illness is a risk for the team. They cannot leave the Heli/Plane if they somehow follow the others and their bots are killed by anything with 12.7 mm or a RPG shot. Two things that bother me a little: 1. A person in a wheelchair is so much more than their wheelchair, so by basically creating a character whose entire premise is “Look! They actually are... @@z_0968 you can make stairs however you like, if you dont make proper stairs and you use a ramp, then you need seperate player / device ability collisions- so they hit the stair mesh rather than the ramps, and its same if you use a ramp and use inverse kinematics of the characters legs to make it seem as if they are really standing on the steps mesh they are on- it would require a seperate collision, so its still just as simple to use real stairs and kinematics rather than a ramp, as long as the stairs are not oversized then there is no issues- this way you wont need a seperate collision type for the character to seem as if they are stood on the steps correctly and to put devices on a step for example

From my understanding of how the operator is gonna play from the way the devs explained it
Her hit box is the waist up, her legs are immune to all damage excluding her chair.

The reason was because according to the Geneva Convention, “…the enemy cannot shoot at, capture, take hostage of, torture or taunt any soldier who has a convalescence device.”
They dropped into France on D-Day and were all killed by the Germans, who didn’t care much for the Geneva Convention.

After this update I can tell what you said is exactly how they think
She better go up ramps slower than I can run
i said this before, it would be more interesting, if, instead, she had a spider version of those boston dynamics robots, and they allowed her to climb walls and ceiling. which would give her a unique advantage. that was born from her disability.
as is, anyone could operate those robots, it doesnt need to be her. but if she was, instead, something of a semi cyborg spider woman? in a game like siege?

Two things that bother me a little:
1. Usually, a person with a disability absolutely does not like feeling sidelined/left out because of their disability, and this characters entire purpose is basically for to sit on the sidelines and let other things to do the work for them because they are unable to.
2. A person in a wheelchair is so much more than their wheelchair, so by basically creating a character whose entire premise is “Look! I’m disabled and that’s my defining characteristic.” comes off as very tone deaf and honestly even a little bit insulting.
