    This lecture is misnamed. It is not an intro to Barth; it is rather a history of the reception of Barth in the English speaking world among this theological school or that school, complete with a long reading list. He never actually gets around to talking about Barth's actual ideas.

    Thanks - great intro - also of note, streams of reflection on Karl Barth in Messianic Judaism, esp on ongoing election of Israel and post-supersessionist theology of R Kendal Soulen, Mark Kinzer and Jen Rosner

    Well done. A major figure in the
    20th century, but seems to have
    a lower profile in recent decades.

    A bit weird that he completely misses the German speaking world. The whole line of thought starting with Moltmann that take Barth serious as a Theologian of Liberation and political intervention for example. Even though Jüngel was mentioned maybe it should be clarified what this line of reception entails: this would be the Hermeneutic approach that people like Dalferth pretty much continued. And then you have people like Stoellger (Heidelberg) who reads Barth as a theologian of Alterity and as "Ideologiekritik" - criticisim of ideology. I think this negativistic approach seems to be not as pronounced in the international reception of Barth as it is in thoose thinkers.

    Bizzare ! If you wish for a handle on Barth go to "In our Time" podcast excellent introduction to the man and his theology, rather than this PR for two scottish uni's. In my opinion.!

    You did not get into the heart of the matter. You did mostly introduced barth not his theology.

    Looks like theology does not teach anything regarding video making. This kind of videos could have shown instead a picture of a church and some birds flying around that nothing of its contents would have been changed at all. He, speaking in front of the camera does not add anything to the lecture.

    you have theologians writing about other theologian's thoughts about another theologian. How comical.

    • @KingoftheJuice18
      @KingoftheJuice18 5 лет назад +6

      Why is it comical? It's a kind of ongoing dialogue between important thinkers. This is what it means to stand within a tradition of thought or inquiry.

    No idol worship. Karl Barth had his day in the sun in the 19th & 20th centuries. Now it is time to move on into the 21st century.
