It´s a fact now! Carolus Rex, the Swedish king was by fact shot by Norways defence force at Fredriksten in Halden on November 30, 1718. I was there November 30, 2022 and lay down flowers of honour as sybolic act for union and brotherhood to remember our history. Leve Skandinavia och folket !!!
This is one of the songs I most would love to hear live på svenska. I hear and feel the emotion of it in English. But there's a quality to it in Swedish that just is so heartbreaking. Definitely a favorite off the album.
@@voidspine Yes. Something that can only be portrayed by a native son in his native language. It's beautiful in English. A lesson about the human cost of war. But in Swedish, it's a lament for the unnecessary deaths of so many. Even a "divine" king couldn't escape the ferryman's toll.
@@voidspine The language one speaks first, informs how one thinks. That's why so many of their English only speaking fans fail to understand why I say learning Swedish brought me a new, bonus album. It does, but it's probably due to him singing in his native language, you know like you learn multiple languages, but your native one is the strongest so to speak (pun not intended) for the fact you've been speaking it all your life. I think that is the case here.
I don't know what I love more, the songs or the stories behind them. I'm so grateful for everything you guys did, you helped me in very hard times. Thank you Sabaton, keep up the good work and greetings from Germany!

I really like it when you sing in swedish ❤ A beautiful and sad song - makes me able to imagine how the Swedish people felt at that time and how grim the march home was. Thank you for this piece of history, as always you are the best! 🔥❤️🔥
Initially I was wondering why there was no translation, then I get it - you want us to learn Swedish :) No issues, a loyal fan of four years gets the message.
It's pretty incredible. My native language is German, I speak English, but none of the Nordic languages. When I heard the English version of this song, I felt at the refrain, singing along with it felt just a little... weird, a bit off in a way. Now, when I tried it with the Swedish version - despite not even speaking the language - it felt much more natural to me. Also, holy shit. I ABSOLUTELY love those songs in Swedish. Please more of them :D
Idag är det exakt 305 år sedan Karl XII dog under sin belägring av Fredriksten fästning. Må han och alla svenskar som har stupat i krig vila i fred. Leve Carolus Rex.
As has often been said of Sabaton, that one becomes patriotic and wistful of a nation whence they do not hail. Cannot wait until you boys come back to Canada!
My favourite part is the last chorus, where Joakim starts to break from the choir, singing at his own pace. As if to signify the singer's personal grief for the king amidst the general grief of many soldiers.
