  • In this video, I show you the proper way how to clean mesh office chair seat without special tools or chemicals, and even restore it almost like new. Out of the many types of swivel chairs, I like the mesh type the best because it allows for better airflow, keeping your back and butt cooler compared to other ones made of leather or water-resistant material.

    Just a little reminder before you start washing the cushions and backrest. Always detach or unscrew everything from the base/mechanical parts to avoid corrosion or rust. Most chairs have 4 screws holding the cushion to the metal base, wouldn’t be that hard to unscrew some of them.
    P.S: doing this can make the drying process easier since you can step on the cushion to push out all of the remaining water from the foam.

    • @HanDIYman007
      @HanDIYman007  3 года назад +2

      Hey thanks! If non-mesh but still made of porous fabric, then I think the same method will still work. However, if it is leather or synthetic leather, then the cleaning method will be different (search for other videos on how to clean leather). And no, I don't bother oiling the mechanical parts after cleaning -- I've been doing this for a long time and so far, no squeaking. I leave it up to you if you want to oil the mechanical parts though.

    I'm guessing if the seat of the chair is the same type of mesh as the back, that would mean it's just fewer steps? But it would mean more water will flow down into the mechanism. Would doing a partial disassembly be helpful there, to remove the pneumatic mechanism, and clean the seat/back/arms and the base separately?
    Also, any suggestions on removing long hair that gets tangled around the wheels, when the wheels have a housing around them? I found that extremely difficult, and am hesitant to use Powdered Brewery Wash to dissolve the hair, as I conjecture that it might damage the plastic of the wheels.

    • @HanDIYman007
      @HanDIYman007  3 года назад +7

      Good questions. If you are willing, able and have the time to disassemble everything before cleaning, sure go ahead. But from my experience, letting it dry under the sun after washing is good enough. Been doing this many times over the years and have not encountered rust (if that's what you're worried about). As for hair in the wheels, there's no easy way to remove those. What would make it a bit easier is to detach the wheels first so you can clean them under better lighting and on top of a table. Try using tweezers or chopsticks if the wheel and the cover have a narrow space.

    For anyone asking for how clean wheels, you can:
    If possible take them out and use a candle for 2 seconds and it cleans it a little but make it better if you do it the right way. If you keep on heating it, that is bad. Use only 1 or 2 seconds heat.
    After this put some oil like a few drops

      most metal parts are stainless, but I would recommend you oil it up with a plastic safe lubricants, Id also recommend not wetting the wheels as the bearings may rust happy cleaning

      Mesh fabric with foam inside. Kung pure foam sayo, pwede naman gumamit ng detergent pa rin pero just use your hands to rub off mga "libag".

      not sure why you need to "pray" at the right angle?!!!! But I think I got what you mean. The reason why I recommend "spraying" at a downward angle is that you don't get stuff behind and around the chair wet :)
