It's incredible how much Mario's jumping trivializes the barriers and boundaries of the game.
I tend to have more favorite games that or older rather than newer, but oh boy, does it drive me crazy how much better games would have been if you could just jump lmfao

I had a weird sense of suspense every time Mario entered grass. Like he was going to start a wild Pokémon battle. 😂
This feels like it shouldn't exist, and yet it fits so perfectly.

It's incredible how much of the map is loaded at once without any necessary load screen. Amazing work
Made me question why gamefreak didn't do it like this. The loading wasn't really needed as the entire map wasn't always loaded either. They used load lines which they loaded/unloaded on the fly. I guess it's just because the houses weren't big enough on the map to do something cool with it. Or maybe the modelcount of things inside and things still present outside was an issue on old hardware
@@nielsbishere I believe the gates were used to load in big tilesets / large amounts of 3D props. I remember skipping the goldenrod loading zone using cheats back in the day, the entire area would just be white and some of the buildings wouldn't render.
@@nielsbishere it's a tileset issue. They could get away with it in the GBA games since so many of the outdoor areas share a portion of their tilesets.
Not really amazing when you're aware that it's easier when not dealing with hundreds of NPCs, event tiles, random encounters, day/night cycle, etc.
This is a ghost town map with water.

what impresses me is that every object is animated correctly. usually when you see a model import from a different game it has no animations and broken transparency
The tall grass being stomped animation is missing

This is so awesome! All it needs are some enemies and other objects/puzzles to make it feel more like an actual level, but the face that this is possible and looks so good is crazy!
If the Gen 4 remakes looked like this it with better music it would have been so much better. I just love the aesthetics of the sprite art with 3D pixelated texture buildings.

Personally I really liked the way the remake looked.
Still would’ve been lame. Every remake looked like the main game in their generation so we deserved a Gen 4 remake that looked like Sword and Shield

I'm hopeful enough to say that this might be the last of the "mega" pokemon era so we can finally move on to the next pokemon overhaul
I don't care if the next game is 30 minutes long with just 200 pokemon, as long as they make sure everything is more fine tuned than just vomiting more pokemon and more attack animations on top of their 5-8 year old assets and call it a "finished game"
@@yoaiou PLA kinda did it. It was hella unpolished but at least it made a hop in the right direction as opposed to a teensy tiny step like past games.
I hope we get more Legends style games and/or the main new region games get more innovative

I was thinking of the Star(yus and mies) to obtain.
"Berries for Miltank" - collect berries around Johto
"Secret of the Ruins of Alph" - Simple puzzles in Ruins of Alph
"Medicine for Amphy" - self explanatory
"Mystery of the Burned Tower" - mini dungeon where you find dog statues at the end
"Search for the Legendary Dogs" - tag with the 3 dog Pokémon where you get to pet them at the end
"Sacred Forest Mystery" - make a maze out of Ilex Forest, find Kurt's lost granddaughter or a Farfetch'd, end up seeing Celebi as an Easter Egg
"Find the Missing Train!" - run along the tracks to find the high speed train stuck in the middle, fight a giant Tentacruel or Tyranitar, unlock Kanto as a bonus.
The whole map is cool, if important NPCs were added I think it would liven up the place.
Took me a while to realize how this looks so much cleaner than HGSS: the texture resolutions aren't distorting as the camera moves around.
This is basically what I want for a Gen 5 remake or HD-something-something. Keep the sprite art, just make it crisp and stunning.

I remember my younger self looking at modded wii games, specifically Mario Kart CTGP on RUclips, and I was super fascinated and yearned to unlock all the modded cups because I thought they were real. I love your work! I just have an Idea. Maybe you could make Mario hit a border sometime to show the consistency and solidity of the boundary. Because without this boundary, the ground is flat and it doesn't feel like Mario is jumping to avoid an obstacle
