    I often hear (and use) เวลา as a preposition of time instead of ตอน. Many Thai students of English mix up prepositions of place 'at' and 'in' - e.g., I am at school, I am in Bangkok. I rarely hear Thais use ขอ, instead they normally use เอา. This always strikes me as being rude, but to Thais it doesn't seem to be impolite. I always use ขอ. Very useful, Mod. I know 95% of this stuff, but the other 5% is important too. I don't know where or how you learnt your English, but after living in Thailand for 18 years I have met very few Thais who can explain things about the Thai language in English as well as you can. This channel is a very useful resource!

    It's so much fun learning Thai especially when the teacher teaches so well! I wish I had Thai friends so that I could learn how to understand someone speaking in Thai and how to talk to them in Thai.

    The best way to translate เลี้ยง would be "to sponsor". So Thais tend to say "I sponsor a cat"; (this way it makes more sense). เลี้ยง is also used to invite someone ("I sponsor you a drink") instead of "invite". Thanks Mod, didn't know it is used for pets (leaned something new).

    Thank you! This was very helpful! But I am also confused by "เอา". I hear people say "เอา" when ordering something at a restaurant. Would it be incorrect to say "ขอ" to order at a restaurant? What is the difference between "เอา" and "ขอ"? Thank you!

    • @sunwannat
      @sunwannat 4 года назад

      “เอา” is more casual and less formal than “ขอ”, but both of these are fine when you add “ครับ/ค่ะ” at the end of sentence. I don’t fluent in English but I think these two example may help you understand: “เอาอันนี้ครับ (I’ll have this one, please)” and “ขออันนี้ครับ (I’d like this one, please)”.
