    I accidentally bought these and they are dangerous. Absolutely no grip, in fact slippery.
    I can't believe they released these out in the market. I thoght your review was detailed and accurate. I wish I would have see it before I bought them. Bought a pair of 510 and couldn't be happier.

    I really enjoyed this review. The format with both of you reviewing the shoes, having a conversation on the pros and cons was great. Your complete honestly on how the product performed and made you feel was awesome as well. Keep up the great work.

    I see the sole of the launch has changed to a good year rubber. Seeing better reviews of the grip now wonder if these two could review there thoughts on the new rubber(seems to be on men's pair only)

    I’ve got 5Tens and use Pedalling Innovations flat pedals. Works well but one day I was in a hurry to get out the door and was only wearing my Vans. Combined with those big PI pedals it was just as good for grip. Only slight concern was lack of toe protection but otherwise perfectly good combination for me. Come on Vans! Make a mountain bike shoe, keep the sole but add a bit of toe protection.

      Agreed. A wider vans with a slightly stiffer sole would be fantastic

    thanks for the review. i find it extremely useful when reviewers not only talk about what is good or bad about the product, but when you elaborate about what you are looking for and what one should expect. i bought my bike when i was out on a road trip and it came with flats. i was a clip-less x-country rider, so i just used my trail running shoes “temporarily”. long story short: i still need a dedicated mtb shoe! 😂

    Good review. I like Pearl Izumi products. At least, their older stuff. I have some shorts and gloves that I've used for many years. In fact, my full finger gloves have to be over fifteen years old. For shoes, I've used Sketchers for a couple of years till last Christmas when I got a pair of Five Ten.

    i made an impulse buy on these at the pearl izumi store. kind of regretting it now. I stepped in dog feces on the trail and decided to just buy a pair of bike shoes. I was about to buy a pair of the vans Gilbert Crocket 2s but the store was out of stock. something that would actually grip would be wonderful, oh well I'm stuck with em now...

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад +1

      I've ridden those Gilbert crickets. Awesome grip, but pretty soft sole and you can feel the pedal a bit too much through the shoe. Vans could make a great mtb shoe with a little work.

    I purchased for $35 bucks from Costco a pair of Adidas Traxion Terrex for my flats and these shoes work great . The shoes have grip , not to hard or soft , the shoes are a good bargain.
    There is a big gap in the MTB shoe market .

    Timely video since I'm in the market for some new flat pedal shoes. I've loved five-tens but had some quality issues with my last pair. Trying out some Ride Concepts but haven't found the right size yet.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад +1

      Which five tens did you have issues with? Five ten has a 1year warranty, so if they came apart in less than a year, they'll replace them for you

    • @KrisYahner

      @@hardtailparty The freerider contacts. One pair delaminated before the sole wore out (but after a year or two of use). The padding in the heel cup in another pair shifted, which pushed my foot forward just enough so the toes touched the toe box. I've had great experiences with impacts and the freeriders pros.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад +1

      @@KrisYahner yeah, same here. The freerider contacts just don't last. The regular freeriders, Danny nacaskills, and freerider prid and impacts have been great. My impacts lasted a LONG time, they were just a little klunky and bulky.

    • @KrisYahner
      @KrisYahner 4 года назад

      @@hardtailparty It's a shame because I loved the freerider contacts sole. It slotted in between the freerider pros and impacts in terms of stiffness and had great grip.

    Another product designed by people who do not use the product. Common in the "modern era". Image before substance. I have been a user of Pearl Izumi products for 30 plus years. These are a fail and obscenely, grossly, overpriced. Thanks for the review.

    Whoa. Pearl is my own favorite gear brand and I was going to try these. No grip, no order. Thanks for the save Steve & Tess. Is there a lighter weight flats shoe you’d recommend? Lighter than a freerider? Maybe just order a set of Vans for cheap

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад +1

      If vans fit you well and you don't mind the floppy sole, i'd go for those. They're cheap and grippy. The pro models have better, longer-lasting soles. Vans are a little too narrow for my feet, so they don't work for me. Im trying the five ten sleuth right now. They're still breaking in. Not super impressed yet. I like the old danny macaskill signature model shoes the most, but they're discontinued and almost impossible to find in my size. See if you can find a pair of those.

      hardtail party I’m just looking for a pumptrack/skatepark/walk in to a cafe shoe that’s good enough to play on. My FiveTens are usually pretty dirty and hot on the feet for a couple hours on paved surfaces. Vans are 1/2 the cost of an X-Alp... think I’ll go that direction.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад

    I had these same shoes. Ran them for about a year for trail use. Shoes never seemed to break in. Upper didn't flex as much as I would like. Soles were stiff and the grip was just ok. Replaced them with the Fiveten freerider pro's and will not look back. Not a bad shoe, but just not good enough for their price.

    • @hardtailparty
      @hardtailparty  4 года назад +1

      Ive tried the 2fos. I wanted to love them so much, but the grip wasn't there. They grip well on the ground, but the pins don't sink into them. I haven't tried the northwaves yet. I really want to, they look great on paper. I've reached out to them, but since they're not set up for great distribution in the US, they don't want to send me a pair to review.
