I'm 31, when I was 9, a friend called me and more or less ordered me to come over, he had just got a new awesome game he said, called Warcraft Orc & Humans. Oh how I love this game :)
You should check out Loria the game, it's very similar to Warcraft 1, I believe there is only a demo available atm but there are plans for more steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=850614737
So helpful! This game is rather difficult, and I found that lowering the game speed gives you more reaction time with the limited archaic controls.

Wow dosbox is way easier to setup than I thought, I tried setting it up a year ago to play Doom and Duke Nukem but didn't realize I just do "Open with dosbox". Thanks for the help I wanted to play this because I'm going to watch the movie pretty soon.

Bro. Thank you. I'm about 7 levels into the orc campaign and just now discovered there is in fact a way to sweep select a group of units. I've been manually slowing down the gamespeed right before combat encounters and then shift clicking individual units to group them up. It felt soooo archaic and wonky. This will be a game changer!

God you're a legend i have a PHYSICAL COPY of this game, which yes is 22 years old, my warcraft CD can legally Vote and Drink. I played it on flippin Win 95 back in the day. Thx to this video i can play it again at a manageable speed.

This was great and exactly what I needed. Credit where its due :) Would love an equally simple tutorial for doing the same with Warcraft 2 and Diablo 1 as the same process doesn't exactly work with those due to the game needing a disc! :)

This is a very challenging game, especially since you cannot control more than 4 units and there are no control groups, but its a good challenge, makes me excited

@@WTii1 I am playing it very enthusiastically, but the micro elements always make me lose, so I decelerate the game in important battles... wc1 is absolutely amazing and atmospheric, the first mission is just so strange and memorable, it puts you in a strange place, and you have to explore to find the gold mine, and then build and fear of enemy attacks, its great

Why do you download the RIP file and not the ISO?
im installing the cd version to a windows 95 machine and i keep getting an error after it finishes installing saying the msdos program has terminated, im still trying to figure it out but any tips would be great

Personally I like to play on slower speeds most of the time to make up for the 4 unit group limit and lack of hotkey groups. Yeah it can drag rounds to a snail's pace but I have waaaay more time to react and micro attacks.

I know im posting this two years after you made this video so i might not get a reply back but ill try. I havent tried doing the installation yet until tomorrow but when i do, how do i open up the game again after i get off and want to play ot again?
When I click and drag during the final step, I have an error. It says

What's the difference between the ISO and RIP file?

Googled "An ISO contains the full disk image - which can be larger. Where as a DVD rip contains just the files so its a little smaller. " :)
Typically an ISO is something you then mount onto a CD/DISK or Virtual Drive to play whereas the RIP file I believe is just the critical files to make the game work and play.

So in short, the ISO file is if you want to burn it onto a disc to make it classy and have the full image, whereas the RIP file is all you really need. Oh and by the way, awesome tutorial! :D I am now happily playing Warcraft 1!

Wtii need you help! I'm technologically illiterate, I got WC II battle.net edition but can't get it to work on Windows 10. When I click on the dvd rw drive to get it to run it says application not found. Any direction you could point me in to get it to work? I do not want a dos version I would like to use my hard copy version

Do you have a shortcut to dosbox on your desktop screen? If not try making a shortcut and moving war.exe to it. When you are hovering over the dosbox shortcut it should say open with dosbox dos emulator. That's what worked for me anyway.
Sounds like you didn't extract the Zip first you only opened it.
how did you get the sound to work?
So I tried to follow these steps, but I have a MacBook. Needless to say I was smart enough to download the Mac versions of each of the files, but I cannot get them to work together. Any advise?

I've just followed the steps to see if anything had changed since I last made this, pressing Alt+Enter worked for me. Press a mouse button or a key to skip the cutscene and you should now be able to play the game as normal.
@@WTii1 Thanks for the reply. Mine goes to Dos and works perfectly but when i activate the Alt+Enter fullscreen mode, it has static on the screen. i can still play it but i can barely see anything.

Fixed it, My screen is broken in some way so i cant open it. But when I use my second screen it woerks in the windows vista pack 2 mode. Thanks man!

Well I figured it out finally! I had to download a W2CRACK file that I put in the WC2 folder. I also added some lines (to mount the file) in the DOSBox options (the .bat file) and had to run the WC2 setup to adjust the sound and digital. Now it works without the CD! I followed the tutorial ''How to play Warcraft 2 WITHOUT CD'' on youtube, and it is working fine!
My only problem now it that the only sound setups that work for me are MIDI and Soundblaster... That doesn't make any sense :/
I guess those sounds are what they had available at the time, well that's great, gz~

No worries! I honestly don't know if there is an online community for Warcraft 1 or not. I'd be surprised if there was somehow.
Battle.Net didn't exist with Warcraft 1 I think, only Warcraft 2.
Is there a similar way to download warcraft 2? If so can you do a video like this on that?
It's the exact same. Just go to abandonware and download the War2 file instead.
I'd rather avoid the DOS version of Warcraft 2, try to get the Windows 95/98 version istead, as it has better sound quality as well as cinematics
Or better yet, go to warcraft 2 ru, and go to download. There are two versions, online, and singleplayer, wich has music
Well, I'd be careful with Warcraft2.ru, last time I downloaded and installed WC2 there, I ended up with Trojans. But hey, they might have fixed that by now. I however just bought Warcraft 2 Battle.net edition on EBay for 5$. Then you get online and get the best version of the game! 😊

I didn't know you could just drag and drop the executive file onto Dosbox.
Did you just say download the .ZIP file? Good Sir, then what use is the disc in my drive supposed to be then?
And, for anyone interested, the disc still is in pristine condition (thank the lord for fat removing cleaning utensils) as in "literally not one scratch that I can see".

Um, the commands you said change the scrolling speed actually changes the entire emulator speed, doesn't it?
If you go too far it may slow the game down, otherwise the speed seems to remain the same & you're camera scroll will be much more accurate.
Ah, right. Warcraft 2 has a similar thing I believe.
You can hold down alt+f12 too. For the slow parts. :p
Yeah, it's not perfect but it's better than nothing!
Being able to move the camera without it jumping to the other side of the map instantaneously is a very welcome option to have, playing this otherwise would be pretty stressful.
Yes, it's quite annoying to have to use the minimap in order to move the camera around in a useful fashion.

I had the same question, until I saw the file called WAR, this may be the file you need. Try opening it without putting it on the DOSBOX, if it says that it is incompatible with your PC, like what happened to me, then put that file on the DOSBOX. There you go! :D

well when i give dos box war2 it says you have to put the disk in the cd drive anyway to get around that?
Well I seem to have a unique problem. I did everything correctly... But instead of Warcraft 1 loading up, Warcraft 2 loads up. Even after I remove it from my harddrive. Even though I also have the Warcraft 1 CD.
My mind is boggled at why.
No idea on that! You are dragging the War1.exe and getting Warcraft 2? Odd.

Go fullscreen and exit fullscreen, your mouse will usually end up outside of it. Then just close it. Or you could open the task manager.
hey man great video but there's one problem i have with this game. whenever i try to pause the game with f10 it always goes like this imgur.com/BWE6BNF or sometimes the menu doesn't show at all. it usually fixes itself after like 10 seconds but its still super annoying.
Hey Elitegamer010. I just playtested the 1st Orc level whilst trying to replicate the issue you show. I had no problems though, pausing & unpausing using F10 worked as normal for me.
Unfortunately I'm not sure what is causing the problem on your end. Hopefully another might know the solution.
im on windows 7 if that means anything. and also it only happens while im in full screen my monitor is 1920x1080. i tried to reinstall the game and dosbox multiple times and that didn't change anything.
