What's ironic is Warcraft III is the only game in the franchise I have never played. I've beaten Warcraft I and II plus II's expansion many times and I've played brief stints of World of Warcraft and Hearthstone. I was thinking about getting the III Remaster but the launch was a diaster of epic proportions so I'm giving them a year or two to fix it before taking the plunge.

@@roguerifter9724 Do it, I played 2 and 3 and while they are completly different they both are equaly great! You could say while II has a big plus in style and flair and the missions a simpler apporach (not any less good tho) the 3 has a brilliant story and deep tacticle gameplay.

When I was 8 or 9, someone burned me some copies of Baldur's Gate, Heroes of Might and Magic, Warcraft 2 and a couple others and I instantly fell in love with the Warcraft series. i don't think I ever played through the entire campaign, but I spent countless hours playing and I've been looking for another copy ever since that. A couple years later I got Warcraft 3 and that one really blew me away and I spent even more time on it. I somehow lost it and never played again but last month while in Wisconsin I found the Warcraft 3 Battle Chest complete in box with everything included for only 6 dollars at a goodwill and that made me so happy. I never originally had the Frozen Throne, and it's amazing! If I can find 1 and 2, my life will be complete. I haven't had internet in so long so I never got too heavy into WOW, but i used to have an account and I played on my friend's computer when I was in high school and it was pretty good too but I don't think it compares to the rts elements or feel of Warcraft 2 and 3. They're two of my all time favorite games and I'd love to see Blizzard release a new rts Warcraft.

This is the game that was my foray in to Warcraft as a franchise, I was 12 years old. Been Horde4Life since then. wc3 Is my favorite in the series, but wc2 definitely still holds a special place in my heart. It's grimdark aesthetic ( despite how silly the Hordes voice clips are) is still my favorite as far as what I think the world of Azeroth should look like.

Though one other thing I would have mentioned is the manuals. I know few ever read them, but seriously, the short stories and miscellaneous lore about the clans and stuff was a level of detail I don't think anyone else went to. And the artwork by Metzen is still some of the greatest I've ever seen...

For those who want to play Warcraft II online, since I don't think Battle.net has any WC2 servers, anymore, check out Warcraft II Combat Edition. They operate what I guess you'd call a "pirate server", or fan server, and distribute their own copy of WC2, setup to connect to that. The single player campaigns are also playable, but there are no cinematics or music. For me, the cinematics and music are a personal highlight of the games. Warcraft II was the first game that really made me pay attention to the music, and started a long standing love of video game and movie music.

This is also my favorite Real-Time Strategy game of all time. My dad bought the Battlechest when I was a kid and never got into it, so it got passed to my brothers and I.
The Map Editor was an incredible feature. I spent probably hundreds of hours painstakingly recreating the story of The Hobbit in Warcraft II. If I recall correctly, the Hobbit was Danath and the 13 dwarves were Six Dwarven demolition squads and a footman (Thorin Oakenshield).
Between Warcraft II and Diablo, Blizzard became one of my favorite Game Design Studios, alongside Sierra and Bethesda Softworks.

I was a little late to this party; my cousin had Warcraft 2 so I played a bit on his PC, but I didn't have a CD-ROM drive until 1998. So basically, I got Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, and StarCraft all within the same year and the three games competed for my attention until Diablo 2 and that became my one true PC gaming love for the next six years or so.
Though I have to say, Warcraft 3 was the best of the series by my measure. Just from a gameplay perspective, having the different factions with their own strengths and weakness added some much needed depth to the game.

    • @Cenot4ph
      @Cenot4ph 4 года назад

Great video, Roses. I have some fond memories of this game. I actually started playing this game + the expansion on the PS1. It was in that funny period when developers regularly made console ports of RTS games. I remember the campaign of the the expansion being brutally difficult, I revisited this game a while and found out that it still is. That last mission with the Orcs is a nightmare. Also I always wondered, what do the Ogres use as a weapon? to me it looks like they just use huge oversized ovenmittens.

still have my physical manual of the game, love the artwork. Also I find it foreshadowing that back then my favorite human nation to play as back then was Gilneas and in wow, my favorite race to play is Worgen...aka as a former citizen of Gilneas.

In these first two Warcraft games, you can see the influence Warhammer Fantasy initially had on this franchise, mostly the orcs having really silly voices to the point of comic relief. Prior to Warcraft, orcs were 1-dimentional villains described in Tolkien's works, while Blizzard helped flesh them out to have more personality in-line with WH, and later having their own culture, backstories and character development as the games went on. Nice review pur, brings back memories :)

This is the first time I am seeing female to talk about playing RTS game. I have to say that this is quite charming and quite unique since mostly I have heard other females just praising and praising RPGs and platformers (coughcoughfinalfantasycoughcoughcrashbadicootspyrocougcoughCOOOUGH).
Seeing how you build up your army was also very charming. Unfortunately I got to say that your base is extremely vulnerable to enemies air forces since without guard towers and troll destroyers gryphons/dragons would easily burn out your base to the ground. Trolls and death knights of course can shoot upward but they won't last long.
This is also one of the good things of Warcraft II: seeing weaknesses, since AI isn't always (at least in campaign) focusing on everything (unlike in scenarios). For example last mission on humans: there is two orc camps and one is focused on death knights most of the time and other is spawning dragons only. Just plenty of paladins and archers and it's pretty much done!
Sigh... this makes me wish to have a copy of Warcraft II Battle.net edition. I lost it at some point of my life and have no clue what-so-ever where I put it.

I got this game at Portland Retro Gaming Expo from the Unipiper, along with it's expansion (Beyond The Dark Portal) and Warcraft 1. What's your thoughts on Beyond The Dark Portal?

I never played the first two but I definitely played a ton of 3 and Frozen Throne. Dicking around in the level creator was also super fun for me even though I didn't really know what I was doing.
Oh, and I was too impatient to learn how to gather resources properly. greedisgood 1000000
