It's dead. There's damage to 2 of the pistons and 3 of the piston rings. Compression was low when the engine was cold, and so it's time to dump money into the engine bay.
I feel for you, at least you're trying to properly sort this vehicle out with the intension to keep it for very long time, ive paid 10k for mine and i had cylinder head cracked, i probably put 8k in now and my motor is back on the road. My main problem was no one in UK wanted to take a such big job, took me 6 monthd to find someone to do the job the way i wanted it. But im still replacing old stuff with oem parts. Took a quote yesterday from toyota for injectors for my Landcruiser and thats £525 a piece. I just dont know anyone or trust anyone to rebuild my injectors or turbo 😢 no one got any knowledge about these cars in this country thats our big problem.
I've no idea how someone has managed to abuse this LC to the point of the engine being stuffed. In Aus these will do a million km before rebuild. I wonder if its been overheated at some point in the past through a leaking rad or something?
Well in the late 90 and beyond Odo correction services were available all over the AutoTrader and it wasn't on the common people to run a car hard open till it's first MOT get the Odo corrected then sell the car your landcruiser doesn't look like it's been in a farm but it could have been used by a plant company or a generator hire business as they are fabulous Towers 100000 miles a year before their first MOT is perfectly feasible a little correction and float it on the motor in that Land Cruiser is a medium Duty commercial easily has a million mi in it in Commercial use in Japan it would be in a seven and a half tonne truck for a refuse wagon I would put in a 20-year plus life I think I recall yours has 170000 on the clock I just can't think that you would be having compression issues unless they were running sand in the oil I have a Volkswagen Touareg with a 2.5 TDI motor commonly regarded as one of the worst Motors Volkswagen ever made he's got 183000 on the clock right now it's a 2000 and 5 truck it runs flawlessly with 0 smoke on startup in the cold this morning it is Flawless I have an Audi A6 with a 2.0 TDI motor in it has 252861 miles it's starting to make a bit of smoke on hard acceleration but that might be the worn turbo not blowing enough air or a hole in the intercooler whatever is Idols perfectly starts on the cold as mornings return 70 miles to the gallon on a slow motorway run is on original clutch and flywheel 1 new turbo and a rebuilt oil pump both these Volkswagen motors have a reputation on the internet for being unreliable and untrustworthy Your Land Cruiser motor has a reputation for being indestructible I was just commenting that mileage correction is unfortunately a common occurrence in the United Kingdom unlike in America where Odo fraud gets you an automatic prison sentence
Would love a full rundown video of your story with the Landcruiser. It's actually extremely interesting to hear about a Landcruiser lemon. Saw you selling off some of the bits on FB Marketplace (I think?) recently.
you bought another Landcruiser? be interested to see your new one! I am tempted by the 4.7 v8 petrol. Less to go wrong on the engine and cost less to buy in the first place. obviously terrible MPG but a LPG conversion helps@@vPerformance
@@scmtbcoach2477 Make sure if you get it converted to gas that they do it right & it doesn’t backfire , the intake is plastic & can get blown to pieces if it does backfire.
This is crazy I know lots of people did a 500,000+miles with this very reliable Toyota diesel engine.! seems like the previous owner didn't change engine oil Frequently !!😡
Everyone has an opinion but nobody has the experience. What is your take now?? Would you recommend someone to buy it? What should we watch out for? Thank you
I think they cannot be bought cheaply. So many things can go wrong. Even with great service history. I'd recommend getting one with as little rust as possible, and then keep money in your budget for massive repair bills. These aren't cheap cars to maintain, with hidden costs like greasing all the shafts every 3000 miles. The service schedule is more complex than most cars and most have been neglected at some point.
Just discovered your channel. Great stuff. Yeah keyboard warriors pronouncing on cars they have no personal experience of is a nightmare. Especially with Range Rovers which get a massive unfair rep (from personal experience of many owned in the family) and Mercedes w124 the other way (again from keyboard warriors) Oh yeah the w124 fantastic, never go wrong, last for million miles.... Nope! Again from experience! A mate of my parents had a G reg Land Cruiser from new one of the first 4.2 new look ones at the time and it was a total lemon. Good luck with it all :)
Your right, there is so little info out there, particularly in the UK and thats why its great that you are passing this stuff on. Please keep it up!
You're the only guy I've ever seen with a destroyed land cruiser engine; if that doesn't deserve a sub I don't know what does 👍

Or they just don't change oil every 5 to ten K.
Or a more simple explanation it has already done a million km and the Odo has been run back ...
That seems like a less simple and less likely explanation I'm afraid

Bummer! Will be fun to have it all sorted though. Any more drifty content coming in the future?
agreed, need me some driftabaru

Yeah the whole thing went to parts. It was the only way to get my money back. It's quite a saga, but in the end I bought another one!

R&M Injection Services in Armadale are brilliant for doing injectors and the fuel pump.
What is the latest update on this?
Completely ruined engine. Needed new pistons, rings, head gasket, bearings.
Burnt the valves out
