I feel that both should pay. I don't believe no one should completely rely solely on the other. The guy may have been joking but many people (men and women), feel just like him. Don't ever get in a situation where you've given someone the audacity to feel they have that power over you. I believe in separate accounts and one joint for bills, nothing else comes out of the bill accounts but bills. My husband wouldn't allow me to pay the mortgage. I paid utilities. I think overall it should be a team effort. He's the King and she's the Queen of the house. Therefore, all things should be a joint effort. The Bible says a man (Godly man) is the head of the household it didn't say the woman shouldn't help. A Godly union moves differently. People interpret it many ways. That's my 2 cents.
I think it depends and everyone should contribute in some way. One of us has to save and one of us has to pay
