Paracord Snake Knot Knife Lanyard - Simple Easy to Tie Knife Lanyard Tutorial 🛠

- This comment was by Aaron Jones and may help others: "I've done this lanyard knot on dozens of knives thanks to this great tutorial. Every time I've used a large spool of 7 strand 550 paracord, melting the ends with a lighter to prevent fraying. Today I was doing this lanyard knot on a knife using a new to me paracord. Its called Tough-Grid 550 paracord which has 7 inner triple strands (they seem thicker than the other cordage I use) as well as an 8th "tracer strand" which is thinner.
The first knot went fine but it took several attempts to get the second knot to seat against the first. I could not get a third knot. After numerous attempts the only thing I could think of that would make a difference was the thicker inner strands. I cut the melted tips of the paracord off and made the remaining knots with no problem. With the ends melted the thicker inner strands must have been binding up, preventing the knots from seating. With the open ends it let the inner stands twist freely, allowing the knots to seat. Hopefully this will help anyone using this heavier cordage.
Snake Knot Knife Lanyard Easy to Tie Tutorial. The snake knot is a really easy knot to learn to tie. If you want a decorative knife lanyard or key lanyard then this is a really good knot to learn. This knot is also especially goo for the beginner, as it is very simple and decorative at the same time."

I just got a new knife and was looking for a nice and well explained tutorial for a cool lanyard. Well done!
What is the copper tool in the advertisement frame of the video? I figure it's used to pull apart your knots. Thanks. I want to buy one.
Holy moly, ingenious. The repetition is priceless and essential for us bored 50-year-old adolescent American males playing with our knife toys. Thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
(Gasp!) I'll have you know I'm 36!😤 lol
Excellent tutorial; thanks so much for sharing. Repetition is the key to teaching something like this, and you did it perfectly with this knot. I’m a clumsy old man, and even I was able to sit down and whip out a nice lanyard for my new knife. Well done! 👍
I bet I am clumsier than you!!! 😉 😉 😉 Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Thank you for making this video! After watching I was able to make a nice snake knot lanyard for my survival knife sheath 👍
Is it the LMF II?
Thanks for the demo, well done.Just want to say I have that same knife on my keychain for ten years now and don't have a problem with it, also I don't use it to cut cardboard or trash.
This is the easiest way I've seen to do the snake knot. Thank you.
I've seen tens of turorials and you sir made me successfully finish my very first snake knot lanyard! Thank you!
Glad that it turned out well for you. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Thank You for this video! It;s nice that You took the time to do it slowly and over and over. made it very easy to learn! I made a lanyard while watching this vid for a deep carry folder that I got yesterday and it makes retrieving the knife a LOT easier. and on top of that it looks cool. Thanks again! :)

Truly appreciate your easy to understand directions, and that this makes a great looking and functional lanyard/rope from 1 piece of cord.
Thank you so much Sir. I learned how to do this so quick now. Thank you again an your the best.
Awesome thank you! I wish you would talk about lengths but i can spitball it. I did this on my twitch 2 and cadet and leatherman squirt ps4. Super fast! Way better than my old lanyard
very slow tutorial.but carefully demo will make virtually everybody understand how to do it.glad you make it slow.good lad👍👍👍
Very nice. Vey clear and simple. So easy to follow. Thank you for this tutorial. 🤩🤩🤩
Wow! Great tutorial, thank you. Knot tying is usually confounding for me for some reason, but this one made it very easy!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Thank you for the informative video, I was able to make a nice lanyard for my knife with your help!
That is great, I love to hear when people use the vids for their own creations. Would love to see some of your work, any online to view?
Great video thanks for sharing. Just made a new knife today and was looking for something to spice it up with and I really like this snake knot, super easy and it looks great. Thanks again 🙃🙂

Great video, easy to follow. Thanks for sharing & posting!
Thanks, that knot is amazing :D And i understood every thing that you said, even tho my english is quite rusty. Greets from ice cold Finland!
Every time he says knife all I can think of is "that's not a knife, THAT'S A KNIFE"
Nice tutorial, easy to follow
So many other videos for this were very confusing. Your's is clear and simple. 😃👍Thank you so much!!! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated. Are you more of a practical or decorative knotter?
Johnny Debt I wrote a reply but don't know where it went. 🤔 I do both practical and decoritve knotting and am self taught by studying videos like yours and have become quite proficient at it and really enjoyed it thanks to generous people like yourself sharing your knowledge. I make Hindu and Buddhist prayer rosaries and the decorative knotting have upped my creations many fold. Practical knotting is great for fishing, camping, survival, and so many situations and scenarious. Even just a general knowledge of basic knot making is good to have. Some people are truly amazed at some of the simplest of knots I can make. It really is a great and very practical skill to have. I have a large knife collection as well and have embellished some of my knives with some cool lanyards. I am in US but am originally from India. Thank you again, so much, sir. 😃👍👏👏👏
Are you able to show me any of your work, as I do love to see other peoples knot-craft? You can drag and drop a photo here, please: goo.gl/mQgf8E
Johnny Debt Sure, I would love to. Give me a few days to get pictures together and I'll show you some of my stuff, friend! 😉👍🙏
Looking forward.
Thank you! You are one of they few people that explained this knot clearly. One thing you should add - Don't melt the ends of the cord until after all the tying is done.
Yes, I too am not a fan of doing this, whenever I can I do try to tuck them out of sight. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Personally, whenever I can, I do try to tuck the ends out of site, Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Would've been useful to know how much cordage is needed. My "lanyard" is now 18 inches long!
Lmfao! Man, that gave me a good laugh 😂
Are you for real?
@@michaelmostardi1327 it was a joke. Sheesh
Haahaa classic

Tutorial Artist of the Century. I always head to you for the best walkthroughs. This knot is made so complicated by other knotters on here sometimes that I hated this knot, there is a forward and reverse...
Glad that you liked it Ryan. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Great job on the Paracord Snake Knot video. I watched a couple, and this one had a great view and explanation and I had it figured out in no time at all! Pleasant cheerful voice as well. Thanks JD!
OMG, I really hate that video, because of the knife!!! You will see in later videos I get better knives to play with. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment. Are you a decorative or practical knotter?
Practical for me. My knives speak for themselves, just want to add some paracord for function and use. This one is more for having some spare rope and grip with a knife. Searching for a good video to show some strong knots to create a wrist size loop to wrap around for extreme knife cutting (as in some of my videos).
Best tutorial out there for snake knots on RUclips. Excellent job mate!
Made one for you knife yet?
@@KnottingKnots not yet but I’m planning on it. 💕
Great video. I made a Snake lanyard for my BUCK 486. Thank you for your instruction.

Thanks a bunch for sharing this in such a patient way. The much repetition helped immensely.
I started a long time ago to "over explain" as I have one subscriber who is blind. He and his granddaughter follow the videos, he listens and she watches. He ties the knot and if he goes wrong his granddaughter corrects him. A lovely little bond must be growing between them?
Started tying paracord lanyard's for my knives from watching your video, thank you so much!
Every knife deserves a good lanyard, so that it stands out as yours 😉 😉 😉 Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Very clear and simple thank you 🙏
Found this very helpful thank you.👍🏻
Did it on my first try. Now my knife looks like someone loves it.
Thanks, JD!
Nothing better than making a knife more personal!! Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated. Is there a photo of it available online, if not you could drop a picuture here: goo.gl/mQgf8E ?
@@KnottingKnots what is the thickness off the paracord?
@@Kraken54321 It is standard Paracord, off to measure it now................................... The piece I just grabbed out of my drawer, is just over 4mm. Hope that helps. You can use any thickness, within reason.
@@KnottingKnots many thanks. I will be buying a bushcraft knife in the not to near distant future. I want to make a small lanyard for it.
@@Kraken54321 Maybe make a short lanyard for every day purposes, but also include a loop at the end. This way you could clip it onto a longer lanyard attached to your waist. I just figure there even less chance of loosing it when not in use?
Exactly the knot I was looking for, thank you!
Gosh, I had really forgotten about this video, I did it many moons ago. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated. Are you more of a practical or decorative knotter?
Johnny Debt I'm definitely more practical. I can appreciate decorative knots, and have done at least one in a project solely as decoration. This lanyard was perfect for carrying an old zippo I have with a lanyard ring that I don't want to lose, while giving me an extra 8' of cordage.
I would love to see your Zippo, are you able to drag and drop a photo here: goo.gl/mQgf8E
Johnny Debt Aha! Figured it out. :)
Got my dad a swiss army knife for fathers day. Thanks to you it'll stay attached to his belt!
Yes, nothing worse than loosing a good knife! Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
I have come back to this same video for a lot of the lanyards I put on my knives. Thank you!
Why not, it is a rather lovely way of decorating a knife. I personally use the 2 bight Turks Head on many of my lanyards: ruclips.net/video/BElWOmPYNEA/видео.html
I won't lie, your words made very little sense to me at first, but the speed you went and how clearly things ended up being shown without any stupid jump cuts, I was finally able to tie this bloody knot after so many failed attempts from other videos. Thank you so much
Glad that it worked out for you Jordan. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

Cool Video, I also use the snake knot lanyard, on all of the knives I make and sell.

I’ve watched 6 videos in the last 30 minutes on this. Yours is by far the best!👍 You did it slow enough with good loose loops that I can follow. Thank you
Thank you for that George. I wanted to try and create something that explains and teaches without too much speed. Sadly, I do get quite a few bad comments because of this. Anther reason is I created the channel to help me to remember some of them ;-)
Absolutely love the tutorial. Put it on my mora companion sheath and it looks awesome. Thanks for the great video. 👍
This is by-far the best tutorial on youtube on how to tie a snake knot .
Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated. Do you now have a smartly dressed knife?
An excellent tutorial. Thank you. Really appreciate the repetition so we don't have to keep rewinding.
I do get a lot of stick from some people for blabbering on but, I think it is better to go slow, rather than put the work down to rewind. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Well done... Easy to follow along and complete a killer lanyard... Thank you sir!

Hey, :-), I am new to knotting, in fact I want to create my first Lanyard for my Hoback knife. It has a Tanto Blade so I was looking for classic japanese knots, but I thought I start easy hence I have bad memories with knots, :-), took me ages to learn how to bind my shoes.
This knot is more oriental: ruclips.net/video/3byLeDu-gKw/видео.html The thing with any knife lanyard is that it is very personal.
Thank you very much !

Hello Mr. Debt, I'm back to your video again to make this beautiful knife lanyard for knife number 2. Thanks.
Wow, you were here nearly a year ago. What is knife number 2?

Bad ass dude thank you !!! Came out sweet. 🙏
Clear demonstration AND repetition. Great teaching technique. Thank you.
You're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
I like the way you do your video. It is clear and easy to understand. BUT the weave looks to me like it will end up eventually having the same issue I had with another lanyard I tried that simply ended in a tight knot. Simply having it in the sheath for a couple of days the end knot worked loose and started to unravel the entire weave. How do you recommend ending this weave to have a better knot for the last one?
If you want to finish it with a nice slender symmetrical knot try the Matthew Walker Knot, quick and simple: ruclips.net/video/8SHFVjr7g9s/видео.html&index=66&list=PL7nysDkNnZHeVqirqzmWRE5-NiG6Ce-TZ or for a slightly bulkier knot the Lanyard Knot, which can be doubled: ruclips.net/video/ROL2a8TkB0E/видео.html&index=17&list=PL7nysDkNnZHeVqirqzmWRE5-NiG6Ce-TZ

Hello USN from ex RN. Glad to hear that you found some of my videos useful.

Dress it smartly 😉 😉 😉
Great video - very clear! Thx for showing it multiple times haha Really helps! Wondering what knot you would suggest for lashing a horizontal log onto 2 upright trees, e.g. when making a lean-to natural shelter? 😃
I would suggest the Transom Knot: ruclips.net/video/xZ2cdHcjvZE/видео.html&t this could then have lashing added to make it more secure. You could also take a look at this guys way of doing it: ruclips.net/video/ctuiFjK1zdk/видео.html The only thing I would say is that his graphics don't match exactly what he is doing.
Thank you! I am terrible at tying knots. This looks so much better on my dog leash now haha

I just got an Mtech Extreme Raptor and I wanted to put a lanyard through it, but I wanted a nice bracelet style to the lanyard, not just stick it through and your video helped, thank you because I am an excruciatingly slow learner when it comes to knots. I have a bundle of green paracord but I can't find the 550 anywhere. I want to make bracelets out of those and lanyard bracelets as well. In the meantime my cats are playing with the short pieces I cut off.
I would love to see, it would you be able to drag-and-drop a photo here: goo.gl/mQgf8E
Got it, yes it looks like will have to go off shopping and learning!
I think I'm going to make a longer one so when I pull out my bowie I can wear the snake knot cord around my wrist. The one I made i guess it's okay, I can put a carabiner on it and it's able to fit around my wrist. But I do have more paracord, I'll think about it. Maybe save it for a rainy day project!!

Great vid
Great "how to" video.
I'm going to visit my local Army/Navy Surplus store and get some 550 Paracord and make lanyards for my Spyderco Tenacious and Kershaw Link folding knives.
We love our knives so much that we decorate them!!! Please do show me a finished piece?
In the end I ordered the paracord on Amazon. ($6:59 for 50 feet).
It should arrive later this week ... I'll try and post a pic when the lanyards are made.
I couldn't find a way to post a pic here so I sent one through to your Facebook page.
It turned out pretty good for a first attempt.
I can not see anything, mind you I have so many posts to wade through. Can you link to me with messenger?
thank you I messed up first time but finally got it 👍👍love this lanyard . thanks
That is the annoying thing, some of these knots take a few attempts to get right. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
By far the easiest snake knot tutorial on the Internet
I have that exact 39.00 buck knife and when I hold twisted Paracord in my hand two inches in back of blade I can open it in a blink. Lanyard in hand and snap it forward the force opens it right up. If you hold it tight up by the knife it usually doesn't work. If you need your knife fast for defense you will not be fumbling for it.
.... another reason for hating it, is that it is not UK legal. My favourite knife is my Myerchin folding seamans knife, closely followed by my Lansky World Legal. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Johnny Debt it's quite unfortunate how strict the UK's knife laws are. I used to live in London when I was younger, and it made my passion for knives difficult to pursue
did two knives just now...
thanks
great video, thanks! :)
