I've done this lanyard knot on dozens of knives thanks to this great tutorial. Every time I've used a large spool of 7 strand 550 paracord, melting the ends with a lighter to prevent fraying. Today I was doing this lanyard knot on a knife using a new to me paracord. Its called Tough-Grid 550 paracord which has 7 inner triple strands (they seem thicker than the other cordage I use) as well as an 8th "tracer strand" which is thinner. The first knot went fine but it took several attempts to get the second knot to seat against the first. I could not get a third knot. After numerous attempts the only thing I could think of that would make a difference was the thicker inner strands. I cut the melted tips of the paracord off and made the remaining knots with no problem. With the ends melted the thicker inner strands must have been binding up, preventing the knots from seating. With the open ends it let the inner stands twist freely, allowing the knots to seat. Hopefully this will help anyone using this heavier cordage.

Johnny Debt I'm definitely more practical. I can appreciate decorative knots, and have done at least one in a project solely as decoration. This lanyard was perfect for carrying an old zippo I have with a lanyard ring that I don't want to lose, while giving me an extra 8' of cordage.
It really depends on how long you want your lanyard to be, I usually calculate 1ft of cord for 1in of decorative knotting. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.

@@jerseyjoe1677 i did the snake knot down 6 knots, then on the strait leg. or right side cord attached the skull.another 6 knots, skull, then another 6 knots. keeping them real tight.

A Buck 110 folding hunter or a Buck 119 fixed blade might change your opinion about Buck knives. Thanks for the tutorial.
OK, your demonstration is finally making my konts all even lol......
Exactly the knot I was looking for, thank you!
Gosh, I had really forgotten about this video, I did it many moons ago. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated. Are you more of a practical or decorative knotter?
Johnny Debt I'm definitely more practical. I can appreciate decorative knots, and have done at least one in a project solely as decoration. This lanyard was perfect for carrying an old zippo I have with a lanyard ring that I don't want to lose, while giving me an extra 8' of cordage.
I would love to see your Zippo, are you able to drag and drop a photo here: goo.gl/mQgf8E
Johnny Debt Aha! Figured it out. :)
Thanks for great easy to follow video , it got me going in the right direction. Thanks again

It would be nice if you mentioned the size of paracord used and the length needed for the project. Thanks.
It really depends on how long you want your lanyard to be, I usually calculate 1ft of cord for 1in of decorative knotting. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Excellent easy to follow for a dummy like me . Thanks
We are all dummies first time round and we get better with practice. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
Thanks for this, I just put one on my Higonokami and it looks great :)
I just had to look that up, turns out that I have one in my collection. Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
If you start with the cord centered for length in the knife hole, should both ends become shorter at the same time? After 6 knots, one end is about 2 inches longer than the other for me.
Many thanks Big improvement and addition for my leatherman..
Nothing better than making a smart tool look even smarter!! Thanks for taking the time to view and also make a comment, very much appreciated.
thanks, appreciate the simple demonstration. cheers
Do you now have a smart knife?
@@KnottingKnots attached to a Buck knife like yours, i'm not so sure! the fella handling it is mighty appreciative though!
