I remember one time me and my squad got caught deep behind enemy lines trying to flank. Everyone was killed except for me, hiding in a bush. I'm a huge fan and player of horror games, and let me tell you, that moment of being stranded deep behind enemy lines, completely isolated and alone from any friendly help, was some of the unironic scariest shit I've experienced in a game.

@@watermelonhead6525 you have to give everyone the chance to check out these roles and give them the possibility to learn how to use them. The learning curve is quite steep and every first time SL or commander makes mistakes. However I agree that both roles should be locked at a certain level. This to ensure that you as a player at least understand the very basics of the game. I'd personally make the requirement for SL level 50 and commander 100.

I was playing sniper last night, I finally got a good spotter with a mic. This was a 1st for me. 3/4 through the match, my spotter informed me that commander said we were the best damn recon unit he's ever seen. All it took was a teammate who had a mic. Communication is absolutely vital in this game. If you don't have a mic, your no good for the team. The spotter and I were setting up flank points, and building garrisons. There were small moments of resistance, but ultimately, being part of a unit that communicates, was the key here, and our entire army pretty much dominated the game because of this.

Hell let loose is one of those fantastic experiences you only had back in the day as a child. When there were pioneer games like half life and every studio tried to deliver something even better than you wanted. I absolutely love this game. Especially because every game plays out different. You can play one map over and over again and there will always be different tactics and funny moments, given by its superb class system. And GOD is this game satisfying when you work together and people know what to do. Playing as antitank with satchel bomb, crawling through high grass towards that tiger tank that brutally killed dozens of your mates and keps doing so, placing the bomb on the back side of it, screaming into your mike "get away from that taaank!!!".... and seing it blow up in the most realistic explosion animation in games today, blasting dirt and dust into the air, while your mates are happily shouting out to your effort..... there is just no game like this and i love that i can play it.

I have maxed out Commander and Squad Leader rolls and you really hit when you said if you get the right squad, this game is magical. I once played 1.5 hrs of a match with my squad where all we did was hunt down the enemy attack positions and spawns. Advancing through the woods, calling directions of fire, bounding with suppressing fire, etc was a wonderful experience and everyone in my squad commented on how much fun it was. We didn't do anything flashy, we didn't cap the objectives, just contributed a small part of the larger picture in ensuring our team could focus on their roles in game.

This review convinced me to spend the $40 for this game, and in only one day of playing, I can confidently say it was $40 well spent. Never have I been so captivated by a game, and by its community.
You want to know what the first game was like? I’ll tell you: I’m on that overcast map with the rivers and flooded plains. (I’m forgetting the name of it.) My squad is downright excited when I tell them it’s my very first game. We spot some Germans, I get killed a couple times, but my teammates know where the enemy is and immediately gun them down. Our anti-tank guy takes out a tank that’s driving by, unaware of our presence, and blows it up in two rockets before they can retaliate.
And then, the big moment: I’m walking along an open field with my squad, a flooded plain with gunshots in the far distance. We’ve been told by command to establish a garrison on the opposite side of the map from where we were. I’m walking, I turn around, and I’m staring down the barrel of…a Browning. Me and my squadmate laugh before we’re informed of an incoming airhead. I didn’t know what that was, but they were pretty on edge. Luckily, a nearby Sherman is here, and we can just blow it up. One of our riflemen approaches the now landed airhead, and yells to the tank to blow it up…AND THEN LIKE 20 GUYS SPAWN. I don’t have time to yell “OH SHIT!!!” I have to keep firing. In what was probably five seconds, our machine gunner shoots into the crowd, I manage to hit literally nobody with my Garand, the tank takes one shot and blows anyone left to chunks of meat, and the guy who took point is somehow still alive.
I love this game. Thank you for making this and showing how great it could be.

That match will forever be etched into my memory

I've had what I call 'Gamer ADD' as long as I can remember, hopping from one game to the next. I've stuck with HLL as my main game for 3 months now. I've went from the 'FNG' that was a detriment to my team to a competent squad leader that enjoys helping the new guys. This game has given me some of my most exhilarating moments in gaming...... I'll never forget the time my Stuart tank squad (2 random internet strangers) got into a duel with a tiger, damaged the turret on the tiger, and managed to destroy the tiger after a couple of intense moments of circling and flanking before we finally got a lucky couple of shots. You're doing yourself a disfavor by not at least trying the game, it will bring you some of the most intense moments in gaming you can have.

This is a great overview of how it feels to play a tactical shooter for the first time. Now that you've had the unique experience of getting your teeth kicked in, I have a playlist of some tactics guides for gaming on my channel that will help you interact with your squad on a deeper level. I also want to talk about roleplaying vs communicating immersively, because it actually makes a big difference in fitting in with the experience your squadmates are looking for. I was talking about this with my friend recently since she also got them mixed up: Roleplaying is a conscious decision you make ahead of time with your partners to never break character until a predetermined endpoint. It affects every part of your session, whether you're waiting around for leadership to make a plan or in the most immersive of firefights. This is highly unusual in the genre, especially in public matchmaking. Usually what we do is dynamically alter our communication style to fit the situation. Much of the terminology is borrowed from the real military to be clear and concise, like "Say again" instead of "Repeat," which means something very different. When you're just talking shit on the truck out, like in the example you showed, this doesn't apply because it's not necessary to that situation. "Yes sir/no sir" usually does not fit into this category because it's used as part of a system of respect and trust that we don't have in this context. As soon as the match is over, all virtual officers forfeit their responsibility to their team and can choose a different role. Usually we'll instead reiterate what we're doing (important since peripheral vision doesn't exist in video games) or just that we've understood the order. Overdoing the realism of your communication can feel pretentious and awkward in a virtual squad dynamic, again, especially with strangers. I recommend you play Squad next for perspective on what these games do differently so you can start to formulate some thoughts on what it is specifically that you prefer about each one. That's what makes a review after all

so good to see more content for this game, you hit a lot of notes about the feel of it. As somebody clocking in 349 hours and just got to level 101, I am still getting used to some of the game (especially playing Armor, love it but it really requires a cohesive squad that knows how to communicate). HLL definitely isn't for everybody, with Christmas having just come and gone I've been in plenty of matches with brand new players that aren't used to it (and I've done my best to help them with tips, such as the lesser known among new players T button pulling up a HUD) I've seen plenty of people decide it isn't for them. Pro tip- having at least two squads on defense can save a game. Don't go full offense, or you'll easily be back capped by enemy recon.

Each player played their role and called out targets as we took each position to the main objective. Even with our Commander yelling at us, we swayed him on what we were doing. When we made it to the objective, I was in awe at the fact that we had just cut the line in two. Our group spearheaded the charge to the next objective and we won the match. Sold me on the game in the first 5 minutes. Great review. Looks like the game represents the best of everything I miss about old tactical multiplayer games, like Operation Flashpoint or modded Ghost Recon. One life. Missions could be half an hour long. Everyone was essential. The team learned to adapt for losses of specialists and morph based on configuration. Even Battlefield 2 wasn't so bad, when populated by adults. This is exactly the type of game I was looking for! Modern BF and COD are pure arcade. Tarkov is too convoluted, to the point where one has to be an accountant to enjoy it. Can't really think of too many good titles that still hold a player population. And I just want to be where the others are at.

The teamwork aspect is so satisfying when it comes to tank crews. The chatter is so organic because each of you can only see so much and only knows as much as anyone else tells them. The commander calls out navigation orders and pings enemies on the compass. "Gunner - enemy left at 275!" "Loading HE." Because of the smoke and recoil, the gunner may not even be able to see if their shots hit. If engaging another tank, the commander has to describe how the round did or didn't hit. "Impact on flat plate"; "No penetration"; "Tank destroyed". The driver especially can't see anything and needs help in navigating tricky obstacles (not helped by the occasional physics jank - my m4a1 once started levitating when it scraped up against a destroyed truck that was part of the scenery). "Driver, reverse to my mark." "Driver, slow to first gear (so gun stabilizer is effective). I'll concede that the driver role is mostly thankless and way less fun than the other two. At least you have a machine gun.

Headshots are the most satisfying sound in HLL, especially if you are having a rough game and you respawn and get a headshot....it's like a release almost. Great video man, really . Thanks for your effort! This video should be viewed by all first time players prior to playing and by all vets, it gets you pumped up.

You have a real talent for narration! I’ve been playing this game with my mates for a long time and I’ve never seen such a gripping description of what makes Hell let loose great. I think you should get a good squad, record a full game and narrate the story of that fight, editing it down to a regular YT-video. Content for years. Keep it up.

I think the community is definitely one of my favourite things. As a noob I got nothing but help from people, even if I screwed things up for the squad I've always been politely told "it's alright we've all done that", not even with a disappointed sigh or tone either. In fact in the 2 months I've been playing I can only recall one time I've had a player yell at me and be a dick about my noobishness, and that ended with the whole team yelling at him and kicking him.

Excellent review of the best game I've ever played. It requires the willingness and ability to work as a team to be successful. I also like that there are specific roles to play that are unique and require experience. The community is more than willing to help new players learn. I removed all other FPS games from my PC as they are not realistic with their replays and bunny hopping. Very nice review!

I've just come halfway but so far this seems to be everything I want battlefield to be. I want there to be weight, time, strategy, immersion, tension, consequence...which forces you to take it slow, to respect the enemy and use every bit of squad coordination you can get, just to drag your sorry ass a few more metres through the dirt. My pc is a potatoe, it runs bf4 with no issue but has some hiccups with apex legends and won't even let me play metro exodus. Where does this game run I'm comparison to those games?

its somewhat moderate to run tbh if you cant run apex properly you probs wont run this well at all you don't need top tier hardware a 1660 should do the job

Excellent review and style. Very adamant. What I love about the game is that killing people doesn't win - it takes good leadership and logistics.

Got this game last week for the XSX, and my first couple games I was so lost. Luckily I got a squad of guys who have been playing since release and they invited me to their party to help me out. They explained everything they could in the lobby before queuing in and eventually let me try my luck at squad leader and I haven't looked back. SL, when you have a squad that's all communicative, is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had in a game. If you're on the attacking team and you formulate a perfect flank and it actually works, you have a genuine sense of accomplishment even if it's just to take out an enemy OP or garrison. The community is super welcoming, and the only toxicity I've run into is when there's a team killer who ruins the game for the team. But in my experience, that's not very common. This game rocks

Every AAA gaming company should take notes on this game, it is amazing!!!!! When you play, you literally feel like your in WW2. The role playing in this community is fantastic and it is the first game I have ever played that makes whatever role you choose important, and that feeling of importance makes you want to fulfill that role as best as possible. Brilliant game!!!!!!

Loved BF2 back in the days, last FPS I played was America's Army back in 2011. A week ago I saw a video about HLL, instantly fell in love and bought the game, been addicted ever since just trying to be good at it. The feeling I got the first time my squad played with great comunication and commands from the SL like we were in an actual war and with everything going on around me, was something that I hadn't experienced in any game before.
