Got me really excited there for a second with that Marriott 1:2. Though, the Hilton 1:2 is not a true 1:2 as their point nights are usually double of a marriott stay. So it’s honestly a 1:1

With the increased spike in delays and cancellations, it’s more risky to book flights via a third party (like portals). If your flight gets cancelled the airline may not be able to rebook you directly. You may be stuck having to call chase/amex/whoever while you’re at the airport to get rebooked. Another reason to use transfer partners instead of booking through the portal.
OMG. So true. I booked via Chase portal and they changed my flight schedule multiple times. I called back and forth between Chase and Qatar. I ended up cancelling the flight and rebooked directly with airlines.
The Capital One Savor card can also earn miles when paired with a Venture card even though it technically earns cash back! Similar to the Citi Double/Custom and Chase Freedom cards.

Hi Mark, For a higher success rate of booking 3 business class seats with points, is JAL much more feasible than ANA? For 3 premium economy seats, is it fair to say much easier for both JAL and ANA? Is there any way to use both AA and Alaska miles transferred to book 3 JAL business flights? Your insight will be greatly appreciated!
Where I get stuck is - I want to book an ANA flight for example, I transfer my points to Virgin. Where do I book the flight? On Virgin? I’ve had situations where I know the partner airline flies the itinerary I want but when I search the other airline those flights don’t show up. I would love a walk through of the actual booking process for partner airlines, I haven’t seen any RUclipsrs tackle this. Otherwise this was an awesome breakdown, always appreciate your videos - thank you!❤
This is where the transfer partner game gets complex (and ANA>Virgin is one of the least straight forward redemptions in the entire industry) 😁 To book ANA via Virgin, you want to search for availability via United Airlines or Air Canada. Write down the flight # and class you desire. You'll then need to pick up your phone & call Virgin to have them confirm space on that itinerary. That's when you'll want to transfer points into Virgin's program (should be done instantly) and have the phone agent complete the booking (either on the same call or on a 2nd call). I'll consider a video about this at some point. Meanwhile, the OMAAT blog did a write-up on this last year. Here's a link: onemileatatime.com/guides/redeem-virgin-atlantic-points-ana/
I was entirely disgusted when I really saw low low value of points to Hilton rooms I wanted so today I tried a Marriott. Most were meh blah but I found one that got me. A room in Chicago Halloween weekend that woukd have cost over $1,200 cash. However with the boost right now I transfered 57,000 got 68,000, used them and $300 cash. So 900 / 57,000 equals 1.578 cents per point. I am so happy and looking forward to my first Marriott stay. Take care, great sir. Best to you Everyday! Haha (because of your most recent video)

Don't forget, sometimes cash is the best deal. Save the points for a better deal later. Wyndham is a great example, the may charge 15,000 points for a room costing $80 or $250. Don't use the points for the $80 room.
You are a true credit card guru!! I think I’m going to stick with 2 vendors (Chase & Amex) because I don’t want to have too many vendors which is so many different apps to have to keep up with. This is good info for me as now I know how to redeem UR w/my CSP when I’m ready. Also, with your division, if I got it correctly. Apple products give a 1:1 ratio on UR.
Chase + Amex = great setup! 😃💳 Regarding Apple Products, yes, 1 point = 1¢, so for instance 10,000 UR points = $100. There may also be limited-time promotions that run throughout the year when UR points can be worth 1.25¢ - 1.50¢ each for Apple products depending on the card you have. Here's a link to another video showing that when I redeemed for an Apple Watch 🎬 ruclips.net/video/nr94dlva2C8/видео.html
I’m surprised you haven’t transferred your CFU points to your CSP 🤔 Great content as usual, saving this to my favorites so I can come back to it if I get an AMEX card that earns MR
only time I've transferred points was over to Marriot at the time they had a 25% bonus for transferring amex points over so got a decent room for next to nothing had to pay a small resort fee.
Hey Anthony - well done on learning how to use the transfer partner tool on your own & for doing so during a promotional offer 😃👍 Sometimes there can be good value in simply not paying cash for a trip & not having to go through all the math to 'maximize' every point.
Just get a flat cash back credit card. Some provide as high as offer 2% cash back on EVERYTHING. Unless you're a frequent traveler or restaurant customer, 2% cash back is a better benefit. I use mine at: - the doctors - dentists - for car insurance - cable - cell phone bills - amusement parks - etc. Even if you can transfer points with these other credit cards to fly first class, I'd rather enjoy the flexibility of flying where ever and whenever I'd like and find my own cheap tickets, than have this dictated to me by having to get the maximum value for my points.
The only qualification that I would make about speculatively transferring points is that it may make sense to do it if there's a limited-time redemption offer and you know you're going to use the points on the other end. Like right now, Marriot is offering a 50% bonus on transfers from Chase UR points. I transferred some points knowing that I'm going to be using those points to top off some free night certificates to get some excellent redemption values in the near future, even though I don't have the exact itinerary planned. It doesn't always make sense to do this, and generally, I would err on the side of not speculating this way, but I think there are definitely some exceptions to the rule.
Very helpful. I'm still on the fence of whether cashing all the points out and putting it in investments or not would be the better option. I figure I don't travel too much anyway, and if the average return is 10% a year, using simple interest for sake of easy math. Chase points invested for 2.5 years (probably less due to the reality of compounding interest) would put the "value" of the points at 1.25 just like the sapphire preferred, 5 years if you have the reserve. But then anything after five years is bonus. Then there is the reality of if you don't do something with the points soon you are losing out, points redemption and program changes, inflation, years of lost interest. Example, I'll probably break 1 million Chase points soon, and for now we've been banking them for a theoretical travel. The only certainty is while they points sit in that balance pool, they do no good and lose value. It's very tempting to just cash them all out and then if I ever do take a trip then just pay cash for it. The only thing I'm holding back on is if I could do one of those extraordinary trips like the maldives for a few hundred instead of tens of thousands cash. I'm very suspect of the people that post those videos. If it was so easy and commonplace why isn't everyone under the sun doing it...I mean come on, a $20k+ trip for only points and a few hundred bucks? I don't quite buy it. I think something else has to be at play here. /end thought.
There's no trickery involved. The reason why everyone is NOT doing it is because the vast majority of people: (a) Don't know how to do it and (b) Are not willing to get a bunch of credit cards to get enough points to make it happen. It can also be difficult to plan. The amount of research involved with transfer partners, alliances, routes, award availability, etc. can be a real headache. If you don't travel much, then it probably doesn't make sense to keep collecting travel points. If I were in that situation, I'd personally cash them out & invest. Then, if / when I wanted to get into travel, I could simply get more cards with more bonuses. It's not like if you redeem them all, you can never earn more again. There's no scarcity of points in the U.S. market.
Great video Mark👍I’m over here still trying to figure out which card to get because they’re sending me Pre Approvals for 2 of their cards which is 400$ Cashback on the Blue Cash Preferred or 120K for their Business Gold Card. It’s hard to choose between these😱
Awesome video, Mark. I am forwarding to friends and family. For #8, if I value Chase points at 2 cents per point wouldn’t I be getting poor value with either redemption in your examples (portal or transfer partner)? In either case I’d be better off paying cash, no?
Thanks J Dawg! If you value Chase points at 2.0¢ each at a minimum, then yes, you may want to pay cash for the examples shown in the video. Better to save the points for a different trip where you could get that 2.0¢ (or greater) value for a much bigger savings at that time.
Hi, thanks for the video, very informative. One question that I don't see people answering. Example 5 (17:11) you say to transfer Avios and then book with a partner airline. But how do we do that? When I go to British Airlines it doesn't show all the AA flights I saw, for example. Going to AA site, you have to use AA points.. Basically my question is: How do I use my transfer partners points to book directly with an airline in their alliance? Thank you!
Hi Mark - the booking part can vary based on which partners are being used. For the British Airways Avios to American AAdvantage bookings, here's a link to a great post by Million Mile Secrets that goes over the process: millionmilesecrets.com/guides/how-to-book-american-airlines-flights-with-british-airways-avios-points/
Thanks for the info. I’m not sure if you already made a video but how will you know how much points to transfer? Do you go to portal and look at the dollar and point equivalent there? Go to the airline/hotel website? Because all they show is the dollar amount.
You'll want to search for award flights on those airlines (i.e. search for 'prices' in miles, not cash)😃✈ For example, if you look at United.com, there's a little checkbox that says 'Book with miles.' That's the view you'll want to see in order to see how many miles flights cost w/ different airlines.
great video. I needed this. I know you're probably swarmed with replies to this video and your poll earlier but can you plan a video about hidden information when applying for cards?? As an example, I watched a video that says there are 3 separate kind of visa cards (visa signature, visa unlimited, I forgot the 3rd). visa unlimited cards supposedly have a minimum credit line of $10K and require a minimum credit score of 720. (Venture X was their example for this card). Another example from a separate video said that the max credit line a certain company (I can't remember which) would only approve someone for 50% of their annual income. I'm sure you probably know of others. this kind of information would, I think, help alot of people out in conjunction with getting them excited about a shiny new card.
Thanks for the suggestion, Kane! 👊 Correct, there are 3 levels of Visa credit cards: - Visa - Visa Signature - Visa Infinite Each one may offer higher benefits, higher minimum credit lines, better insurance & protections, etc.
Nobody, I mean nobody, does it better👋🏾👋🏾 encore, encore, on to the advanced class... Int'l Bus & 1st class Alliance Partner usage examples for - OUTSIZED value😀

Welcome to the world of Amex points! Glad to hear the video helped! 💯
Don't forget, sometimes cash is the best deal. Save the points for a better deal later. Wyndham is a great example, the may charge 15,000 points for a room costing $80 or $250. Don't use the points for the $80 room.
Great point right there! 👊
Wow this was very very helpful to beginners thank you for being so clear
Glad it helped!
It cannot be more comprehensive 🥰
Thank you! 💯
Mark thank you for making this video. You explained everything beautifully and in detail. Thank you again for all the hard work and research.
Glad it was helpful, Vishwajeet!
Looks super helpful looking forward to trying this out!
✈💯
You are a true credit card guru!! I think I’m going to stick with 2 vendors (Chase & Amex) because I don’t want to have too many vendors which is so many different apps to have to keep up with. This is good info for me as now I know how to redeem UR w/my CSP when I’m ready. Also, with your division, if I got it correctly. Apple products give a 1:1 ratio on UR.
Wait a couple months. You'll be into Barclays, Citi, and Capital One. Don't worry, it happens and we were all like you when we first started!
Bow down to the Master of Points!
It wouldn't surprise me if you are a world history teacher.
Glad you enjoyed the video, Fog runr!
Show us how to book a flight using KLM award miles and book with Delta flights.
Thanks for the suggestion 👍
You are srsly the best!!
Thanks Lisa!
Awesome Info. Thank you. so much.. !!
You're welcome!
Outstanding overview! Thank you Mark!
Sure thing, Malcolm!
Wow my comment is exactly the same example you gave-ish, before I even saw your example on the video
An example of RUclips brilliance! 😄
thanks for this video
Sure thing!
I’m surprised you haven’t transferred your CFU points to your CSP 🤔 Great content as usual, saving this to my favorites so I can come back to it if I get an AMEX card that earns MR
I let the points accumulate individually per card. Combining only occurs when I want to redeem.
This video was very informative and clear. Great job!
Thank you!
Chase UR to Hyatt is the best
💯
Marc as you know a lot people like to travel on cruises can you do a video how to redeem points to maximum travel
Hi Jimmy - probably not at this time. While there are ways to use points for cruises, I'm not aware of any methods that give great value.
@@MarkReese Muchas Gracias Señor Marcos
only time I've transferred points was over to Marriot at the time they had a 25% bonus for transferring amex points over so got a decent room for next to nothing had to pay a small resort fee.
That's an awful redemption value
Hey Anthony - well done on learning how to use the transfer partner tool on your own & for doing so during a promotional offer 😃👍 Sometimes there can be good value in simply not paying cash for a trip & not having to go through all the math to 'maximize' every point.
Thank you very much. Greatly appreciate your time and effort.
You're welcome! ✈
Just get a flat cash back credit card.
Some provide as high as offer 2% cash back on EVERYTHING. Unless you're a frequent traveler or restaurant customer, 2% cash back is a better benefit. I use mine at:
- the doctors
- dentists
- for car insurance
- cable
- cell phone bills
- amusement parks
- etc.
Even if you can transfer points with these other credit cards to fly first class, I'd rather enjoy the flexibility of flying where ever and whenever I'd like and find my own cheap tickets, than have this dictated to me by having to get the maximum value for my points.
A flat 2% card is a great way to go! 😃👍
Very informative. A lot of information but you made it easy to understand. Good job 👍
Glad it helped! ✈️
perfect timing for this video, i have 350k points between Chase UR and Amex MR ready to be used effectively 😂
Nice stash of points! ✈️🏆
Awesome video thanks
You're welcome!
Thank you! This is very helpful!
You're welcome!
Great point! 😃👍
There's no scarcity of points in the U.S. market.
@@MarkReese Good points, giggity haha. If you're ever bored you should show us how to do a maldives trip on the cheap lol.
Great video Mark👍I’m over here still trying to figure out which card to get because they’re sending me Pre Approvals for 2 of their cards which is 400$ Cashback on the Blue Cash Preferred or 120K for their Business Gold Card. It’s hard to choose between these😱
2 very different cards for very different purposes.
This is the video I've been waiting for. Thanks!
No problem!
For the British Airways Avios to American AAdvantage bookings, here's a link to a great post by Million Mile Secrets that goes over the process: millionmilesecrets.com/guides/how-to-book-american-airlines-flights-with-british-airways-avios-points/
errata-should it be Hilton instead of Marriott around 10:00
Indeed 😁 Thanks for catching that, Albert!
Wow…excellent info!! Thanks!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Great info.
Glad to help!
great video.
👊 Correct, there are 3 levels of Visa credit cards:
- Visa
- Visa Signature
- Visa Infinite
Each one may offer higher benefits, higher minimum credit lines, better insurance & protections, etc.
I don’t see ANA as a transfer partner for Chase. How do I do that?
ANA is not currently a Chase transfer partner 😄✌
Where is the video where you show how the partners overlap between credit cards companies?
Here you go, starting at 11 min 56 sec: ruclips.net/video/ocvo_lVUOlU/видео.htmlsi=1pfWSyEa3g3z12DS&t=726
Well Done 👍🏽
Thanks!
Thank u for the video. So u have to make an acc for all the airlines? Like delta, united etc? And also an alliance acc?
You need to make an account with each airline & hotel program to which you want to transfer. No need for an alliance account.
Awesome thanks you
You bet!
What a great video Mark. I was thinking is there any different when transferring MR points from a Business card? Thanks
Thanks Maya! No difference when transferring from a business card.
Nobody, I mean nobody, does it better👋🏾👋🏾 encore, encore, on to the advanced class... Int'l Bus & 1st class Alliance Partner usage examples for - OUTSIZED value😀
Thank you! 🏆✈️🏆
