Nier, Sieg, Lance, Seox sitting pretty for 6+ months with only light nerfs. Beatrix is out for less than a month and needs to be taken out back with an emergency patch? What are these devs doing?
They are really only terrorizing high level play. Add to that, Beatrix is arguably the most popular character in the game right now. She's disproportionately affecting everyone a lot of the time.
Her popularity is also probably part of the issue. Shes more popular than all 4 of those characters. Combined.
@@trippersigs2248 Well, she's a character you'd want to hang out with. Other mentioned are either too serious (Lancelot, Siegfried), too broken (Nier, Seox) or not waifu enough.
The devs don’t want to over patch the game like they did with GBVS, so my thoughts are that they are playing it safe by releasing bog batches.
@@Iceblade269 My hope (though I realize it's dumb one) is that once chara pass 1 is done, devs will take look at the game as a whole and rebalance characters to match their vision but also the game as a whole (so that characters aren't left with completely unusable or broken-op ultimates for example).
A fullscreen, fast, advancing, low-profile low with advantage is pretty toxic on any character.
Stroke with plus frames is 28 frames tho, starting from S rank and above people react on it.
Yes literally anyone complaining is because they use the character for how easy it was to climb in rank with her. Play mostly anyone else in the roster that didn’t have a ground based projectile? Good luck lol.

The laat time i remember seeing something like this was Triborg in MKX. I played him in tournament during his week one release. The next week he was nerfed.
Commenting on every video before Arakune BBCF combo trials. I am very glad that beatrix is getting tuned down. My character didn't really have a whole lot of counterplay to her stuff. I mean why does her stroke hit cag traps????

The last emergency nerf patch I remember was near the beginning of DNF Duel, where they made minor nerfs to Striker and Hitman...and they just obliterated Swift Master. He hasn't been relevant in DNF Duel since then, lmao.

What's up with so many characters getting shitty ultimates while there are characters untouched that can full-combo from anywhere with them (Zeta, I think Grimnir and others), grant unfair (towards most other characters) combo extensions (like Narmaya's that ends with crumble even when attacking airborne opponent - it also resets combo limit IIRC) and stuff?
But then there's a character that's overall strong but then get's gutted and kicked while lying down for some extra measure...
Bea's 22U should not be unsafe. It's already 1/3 of bar lost on block (as is the case with most utlimates) and simply losing turn should be enough of punishment (especially considering 22M is now almost useless - I don't see how it was OP since even pre-nerf it's already on 28f startup that's easily punishable).
Edit: though in general I don't really mind the idea of nerfing her - there is indeed too many Beatrix players to the point I even jumped to my next char earlier than I expected (quite new to the genre, trying out various archetypes for now while working on my fundamentals).
Summer patch better be amazing
Every situation 22U was a god button it gave me a midscreen safe jump, cross up, overhead, empty low, empty command grab ludicrous chip damage the most chip damage in the game I swear and being unpunishable is just icing on the cake. The damage you get off a raw linked or stray hit is explosive to say the least in the corner. But the reason it is unsafe is because I've checkmated so many people doing anything on block into Electric slide and immediately DP for chipout you genuinely just don't expect a fast safe option that does monumental chip damage while also low profiling from across the screen in slow motion to be the jack of all neutral
They did this to 2B as well. Siegfried, Nier, Lancelot, and Seox only getting wrist slaps in august lol. People thinking that the oppressive top tiers will get the same treatment are funny to me cause they have proven to only care about one agenda since launch.
The future is never set in stone and we never know what will happen, it’s a bit early to say it won’t happen as if it’s a fact, pessimism gets nobody anywhere
Nier got actual nerfs no idea what you are talking about. Launch Nier and current Nier are two different playstyles

My perspective as a Metera main, this needed to happen. None of the other top tiers gave me the hopelessness Bea did. The meer threat of Riding Free alone blows up so much of Metera's basic game plan.
At least with it being air blockable & minus now, she has more of a fighting chance.

It's cool that it happened earlier than later. Before summer events start. Otherwise, we'd have to wait until mid-august-september for half beatrix in ranked. It's getting better on the ratio even without that, but still.

If you played a character without a meterless invincible DP, it felt like you were guessing between divekick or stroke/viper in neutral. IMO deserved nerf.

Like ya said, I've been waiting for her since the vanilla version of this game was announced, and she's not even in Relink, so I ain't going anywhere! I was playing Metera before her release, I ain't afraid of being low tier!

Bea might not be part of the 4 gods, but the fact she just shut down a huge chunk of the cast with just one special was ridiculous and that move needed to be shot. Playing Zooey vs her is a pain, but some characters like Uno can get low profiled on all of his specials so he can't use any of them in neutral without risking being blown up. Her high damage also makes risk/reward on any neutral interaction super favoured for her, especially with her insane corner carry.
I agree. It does not make sense nerfing her that hard so quickly, when we have much more obvious problems remaining untouched for months. No clue. Her kit is also so basic.
Being “basic” isn’t a bad thing if your “basics” is overtuned as hell. Seigfried has the same issue.
Did people completely forget vanilla Granblue with how Gran was at launch? Beatrix was like Vanilla Gran 2.0 just swap Boot for her slide.
@@mrharvy100 I cannot disagree more with you on both of your points.
Siegfrieds may be basic in terms of an archetypical Rising shoto but he has his own very distinct twists which allow him to set himself apart from Gran or Djeeta. Massive midrange, heavy hitting, easy confirms, projectile covers full screen and is hard to step, unblockables. He keeps out Beatrix unless she commits for her vortex.
You're also comparing Beatrix to Siegfried, when there are more obvious contenders for top tier.
At the same time I don't get the vanilla Gran comparison. Is this vanilla GB still or are we talking about Rising? Do we have ultimate skills now which skip neutral a lot of the time or do we not? Is Gran's boot in Rising not still a great pressure and neutral tool? He is plus when spaced right. And do not get me wrong. I think the change to her vortex was necessary. Specifically her M version but all the damage nerfs on top of it are definitely too much considering how many top tiers still do their degenerate crap and noone seems bothered (Seox, Zeta, ...).
Stuff like this really makes me wonder what their internal playtesting looks like. It's not like she had any obscure setups which were overlooked and turned out to be overtuned.

I think she’s a good addition. Cool character, interesting to fight, but not super strong. Solid mid.
Looks like a lot of people got tired very fast of her, and started to drop the game.The diversity of matchmaking wasn't healthy even before Bea. 1.50 will revitalize the game or completely bury it. No one will wait for next big buff/nerf another half a year. Turning point for GB is coming.

I really, REALLY hope they address the other top tier characters in the next patch. I think they hit Beatrix because of some of her matchups against certain characters. Yeah, Beatrix isn't top 5 and more comparable to Djeeta/Anila in strength BUT certain characters just couldn't deal with her moves.
As a Metera player, I'd GLADLY fight Seox or Lancelot instead of her. Couldn't 2L her 22H, no meterless DP to deal with the moves, couldn't even down back because of command grab and one touch it's over and if you BC, you better hard call out her moves and lock her down or she's back in with little counter play. If she got back in, might as well put the controller down. And she's not even the worst case (looks at Ferry). Weirdly enough, the lower tier characters had a better shot fight the usual Top 6 than fighting her.
Now, I don't really like the changes to Beatrix. A lot of it feels a bit overkill like the Delta Clock, 22M being minus AND longer to low profile (should have picked one, not both) and I hope the damage reduction overall isn't TOO much. And i know "just buff the weaker characters" and yeah, I generally agree with that but still, "emergency patch" is just an odd thing...
Fingers crossed that 1.5 is a banger patch for the game.
Maybe im bad, but I'd fight Metera over ferry any day of the week. I find 2M > Gespenst much harder to work around than any single metera move, especially when trying to bait out 2M is an invitation to get hit by 5M/H cancelled into Gespenst which pushed you out too far to do anything at all. Bea has oppressive get in tools, but they're quite linear...
22U was my crutch in this matchup, but I'm bad so who knows.
@@Living_Target the thing with Ferry is that her whip has massive extended hurt boxes, meaning you can "attack the whip" and hit her. Her 2M can be crushed by a 2U into a 22X and 5M/5H can be punished as well. You may only be able to get a 22U after whiff punishing 5M/5H. 22X can also low profile Ferry 5M/5H. If you end up clashing with one of her normals, Star Chaser can stop Gespenst.
Ferry as a character is really good at keeping people out but as soon as she gets closed in on, there's almost nothing she can do. Her DP (only ultimate) doesn't even stop Bea 22U (the only DP that can't stop 22U) it certainly feels like Ferry has a worse matchup but I'm not really a Ferry player so...

I guess I gotta get used to attacking into the whip, not something I'm used to doing on perceived extended hitbox moves.

Metera main here, play Bea for fun and love for the character. I think Metera needs to be given some tools to actually play the game rather than hitting Bea. She just exposed how badly power crept Metera got by the mechanics added in Rising. She has so much trouble dealing with all the rushdown options everyone has.
I think she'll still be pretty solid honestly. Just wish we might've had a few more active adjustments along the path to other characters. I get they want to do it all in August but it is a very, very top heavy game right now. Good game though! With even a few modest tweaks, it could be in a very good place.

Patch 1.5 will probably address the issues the other menaces are causing. Either way, Beatrix definitely needed a nerf regardless.

@@StratosSamaa There's nothing wrong with strong characters existing, even if they're DLC. But it's not fair to 'balance' characters when others are left overly strong since release while newly released characters are nerfed swiftly.
Whether or not Bea and 2B are balanced now is irrelevant when Nier still exists as strong as she is. If Bea needed balancing this much, this fast... Why haven't the other top tiers been nerfed the same way? Why can't we have strong DLC releases?

@@MatronMugrai I understand having STRONG DLC characters but it kinda defeats the purpose of the base roster if the characters are TOO strong. I DEFINITELY agree that Nier should be nerfed as well, as well as other top tiers, but 2B being able to combo from ANY distance with ANY button is wild, and Bea being as broken as she was before her nerf was wild too.
Strong DLC characters are fine, but OP/Practically unbeatable DLC characters is where most people draw the line yk? (Sorry if I came off rude btw ;-;)

I agree that overly strong (base or DLC) is a problem, but it just feels wrong that they're going so heavy on nerfs when there are other offenders being lightly touched. Why couldn't 2B be lightly nerfed? The way she worked before was what I really wanted to play and honestly what made me strongly consider buying GBVR in the first place, when they swung at her the way they did... I felt glad that I wasn't able to afford a game I no longer wanted to play because of those nerfs.
Bea dropped and I finally could afford the game, so I started having fun learning her... Now the nerfs have landed and it jist sucks because I've watched other top tiers be fine up until now. It was honestly discouraging to see the nerfs and I won't lie, I very much considered dropping the game because it felt like DLC characters will either release strong and then be nerfed hard or not be worth playing in the first place.
Part of me can't shake the feeling of 'we got all the Bea players' money, time to drop the hammer'. I'll definitely still play Bea and learn 2B because I'm enjoying the game and there's no reason not to play her, Bea has a cool alt outfit and witch hats are awesome (I-no is my GG main).
It just feels disheartening, that's all... And I can only hope the next patch ACTUALLY deals with the problem characters. I will be fine if it all turns out to be fair. If it doesn't, it just feels targeted and that's not cool or fun

What do you mean. DLC so soon and Battle Pass, especially this game's since it handles it so perfectly and gives good rewards, are one of the most exciting things. I also wouldn't say that about 2B and Nier (to a lesser extent) since they have gotten notable nerfs.
@@IppoX90 they added a strong character with a paid cosmetic then nerfed her a lot after most people paid for it, seems a bit scummy.
Other characters recieved some nerfs indeed, but it wasn't a hotfix with a list of changes.
If they had kept 22M plus she would at least still play the same but with nerfed dmg.

Honestly the nerfs coming in to a character I was waiting on for a while cause I really like her in the gacha(and the doujins ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) and the fact that anytime I take a break from the game I just go "Might as well just jump back into playing Sieg since I forgot how to play the other characters" is just telling me the devs want me to keep playing Sieg. Works for me. Favorite dragon knight.
I didn't mind fighting her a lot. She was also very fun to play and hope she still is after the nerf but this just seems quite excessive. If every top tier gets smacked across the face this badly I wonder what the game will look like after summer.
Her ultimate skill went from -4 to -6 too, and that is insane. It's punishable! All I wanted was a damage nerf so they don't 2 tap everyone, but instead they just gutted her! I'll pour one out for the Bea fans out there; yall aint deserve all that.
As someone who played the original for most of its life people should be absolutely terrified at these nerfs. Because if this is the future we may have another season 2 Versus disaster incoming 😱

I started playing her cause I saw an Empty head clutz powerhouse. I'm still gonna play her cause although I don't have the attachment to the character I still think Bea overall is sick and she has a time gimmick. Still seems like she'll be fun!
as someone who has waited 4 years for the queen herself to grace this game. I am absolutely devastated, and will be starting a #FreeBeatrix movement. If anyone wants to join the movement, then put #FreeBeatrix in your in game name/profile message. The more we have the better, and we can hopefully spread this far enough to where Cygames will have to respond. They need to know that this kind of thing is NOT okay

To be expected. She has TOO MANY assets that make her kinda hard to fight against. Plus, stuff like this happens often for DLC characters especially if they're BROKEN ON LAUNCH. I myself was saying how she NEEDED a Nerf. Hopefully this eases the anxiety of fighting her.
At first I didn’t care about her.. I didn’t like or dislike like her BUT when I seen the battle pass and it was for her I was pissed. I was like why they release her and she immediately gets a costume while people been waiting for their character to get a costume. I want my yuel costume.
The simple explanation of why her, is that they're clearly trying to avoid CEO and EVO from repeating the 6/8 top 8 reps from being the same character like nieir or seox.
I'm a beatrix player because coming from S2 strive Giovanna, and granblue didn't have that archetype represented very well, so I'm not a character loyalist but she's definitely my main before and after this patch.
Frankly after discussing the 22 changes with a well noted high level player we landed with the opinion that 22U got hit way harder than 22M. Personally I think she'll be no lower than top 10 because the same time she gets recharging clock, she gets SSBA which is a free 10k regardless of the clock changes anyway.
They should have just released the summer patch early instead, even if it was balanced with an unreleased character in mind for the optics though lol. I know those nerfs are coming.

RIP Beatrix May 2024 - June 2024. Like the paint didn't even dry on her and she gets this treatment. From the way some people act, you'd think she was the second coming of Labcoat 21, BBCP Kokonoe, Happy Chaos, Asuka and Nine the Phantom. Oh well, this is standard procedure with ASW doing emergency patches. They'll continue nerfing her even more when 1.50 drops and then it'll probably be about 7~9 patches more of rebalancing before she gets better.

My issue with Bea is not her damage is the fact that is always her turn just like Six. She is too hard to punish online.

It’s funny how a lot of people are going doom mode because her gorilla damage got marginally toned down and her neutral skip…actually has a downside like most of the roster.
It’s like people are forgetting that Beatrix is still post nerf gonna be one of the better shoto in the roster with the stuff she still has intact including the 10F command grab, the free combo extension unique mechanic she gets via Clocks just for being low heath/landing her command grab, still has strong corner carry, and her damage is still gonna be high especially with clock. It just won’t be ridiculously because you got tagged by a special move you spammed for half the match.
I don’t want Vanilla Granblue launch Gran 2.0 because that was how launch Beatrix was. If they nerf Seigfried too later then we are getting somewhere.
Yes I was actually dooming a bit after seeing all the damage nerfs but that was before I got to see some of her more optimized combos which do like 80%, which I had not been using so far. She will probably be fine after the nerfs, especially if they meaningfully nerf the top tiers later on.

Now i'm curious, I'm gonna laugh my ass off if these Devs will follow what Tekken did with Jun Kazama where in previous patch the Nerfed her to the ground to where she is practically a deleted character Then Bamco practically REVERTED her back to the way she was and Even gave her New tools because of the MASSIVE complaints by the Jun Army for the Current Balance Patch that just dropped few days ago. Now for Beatrix, i feel sorry for Everyone who Paid for this DLC character especially if this is your "waifu" and have been requesting this character Only for this. This Happened with Jun kazama, where EVERYONE and their mom wanted her back, brought her back, was "top tier" ppl complained she was "broken" nerfed her to Deletion, complained AGAIN because she wasn't as broken as ppl say she was, reverted her back to the way she was and now she is good again. We shall see.

I think the clap back on this is a bit over blown. I'm not saying i hope this is a trend cause i don't, hotfixes for characters like this is bad, but this nerf isn't going to make her terrible.
M riding free, while it isn't plus anymore, is still safe on block and still grants good advantage on hit. The damage nerf isn't that huge of a deal cause it's made up pretty hard by how easy it still is for her to confirm.
Plus they did nothing to her buttons, they're still fantastic.
She's not bad now, she's just no longer contender for an easy top 3 anymore.

Yeah, this is it for me, at least for a long while. Nerfing her and 2B while the top 3 or 4 remain as oppressive since the game came out is a complete joke. Fire whoever made these decisions, issue a public apology for incompetence and release an actual decent patch immediately and I will reconsider, but we know this ain't happening.

It's ridiculous to me that they panic emergency patched Bea when Nier, Sieg, Lance, Zeta, guard cancel, 66L, etc have all been allowed to cook since release lol. Like why not just wait to balance her with the big patch? WHY'D YOU CUT OFF BEA'S LEGS AND NIER IS STILL WALKIN FREE BRO I DON'T GET IT, AT LEAST BE CONSISTENT
As a Beatrix Enjoyer, I think the Riding Free M and damage nerf are well deserved, very gorilla move and having the damage of Vas without his downsides wasn't fair, but damn what's the purpose of using Riding Free U now, i don't think making it unsafe was really that necessary.
They might make all U skills unsafe

@@kimera2450being unsafe is fine if they left the damage intact. 3K on hit is nearly an SBA for 1/4th of the cost, and started a combo in the corner.
I'd have much preferred they made it riskier with high damage as a punish tool than the other way around personally.
@@kimera2450 def not useless, for beatrix 22u is still amazing at being an anti fireball or whiff punishing tool and its one of her best starters in the corner which the correct route gives her full meter refund. the main difference now is they nerfed the yolo aspect of it. making skills as powerful as these have real risk is a must imo.
given how that u skill utterly annihilates some characters it should probably have some risk to it

Sentinel WAS top tier - As a support character. Him having godlike support AND by far the most life of any character in the game was terrible for the game's longterm health, and to this day I maintain it was a good thing that he lost 400k points of life.

I bought the game because beatrix was released, and will probably keep playing her because I can't be bothered to learn a new character (even in a game as easy as granblue). I'm mostly annoyed at the fact that I've been slumming it out with low tiers for years fighting busted ass characters that never get nerfed, and when I complain people tell me to just play a top tier. WELL I DID THIS TIME AND SHE GOT NERFED IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE F*CK!

I'm interested to know which 5 characters you think are 100% better than her right now. The fact that she's consistently winning both offline and online tournaments and is extremely over-represented at all skill levels has to count for something. The crux of her high level gameplay is still intact, namely insane strike/throw reset pressure with 22L, 66L, 5H and U that basically forces you to down back whenever she's a character length away or has clock up. She can still convert to a full damage combo from almost anywhere, but now needs another 1 to 2 touches to finish you off. Her 22Xs are still basically unreactable, and only 22U is becoming unsafe.
I think public sentiment has it as sieg, lance, seox, nier, belial in whatever order of flavor of the month, and personally i think (hot take?)Anilla and Bea are in current contention for either a top 5/6 slot.

7:05 LOL I'm cracking up. That would be me. As soon as I found out this character existed I wanted her in so bad. She's like everything I could want in a character. Blue (best color), Brash, Indomitable will, self adoration, she has some guilty gear things which I grew up with, I like time mechanics, and they even gave her an immediate Halloween skin. I love horror and I usually play puppets so that's why my other pick is Nier. I understood both were busted and condone their nerfs, even if Nier's weren't enough. That damage is crazy lol.
I think Bea's decent, but clipped for sure and I doubt they'll leave her this way, considering like you said, her okay normals don't really balance out her current identity. They'll probably amp them up, tweak things like 66M which wasn't that useful outside of niche scenarios. Awesome video. You've always made me laugh, thank you.
