**CORRECTION ON THE WATER HEATERS!!**
I never claimed to get everything right, and it definitely seems I was 100% mistaken when discussing the water heaters. Wolf Pup, like the Jay Flight SLX, uses a gas/elec/auto ignition water heater and apparently has for a few seasons now (and is continuing to do so). Apologies for the errors, but wanted to get this out there ASAP so you can make better & more educated purchase decisions. Thanks for watching, and HAPPY CAMPING EVERYONE!!
Stuff happens. Don’t worry, we’re still “happy campers”. Lol. But thanks for owning it! 😎👍🏻
My wife loves that look through door on the cherokee, are they standard on all the 17jg's?
@@firewall7060 Standard on *ALL* Cherokee products & sub-brands now!
I really enjoy the side by side comparison. Your humor is priceless too!
My humor is priceless because they found nobody wanted to buy it lol
I agree this was awesome!
Ladders should be standard on all "walkable" roofs.
agreed but removable to keep hoodlums from climbing up them
No way. We rent RV's and do NOT want people on the roof. The factory ladders are not removable.
For what we would use it for, advantage to Cherokee. Larger fridge, stable steps, two more stabilizer jacks and bunkhouse door are the main reasons. Love the Jayco too. But in this matchup, the difference in price means many more useful features for us.
Josh, you have hit it out of the ballpark again. You are the master of RV reviews/tours. Others try but none can compete.
We all appreciate the work and your dedication in the RV industry.
Thanks!!😊👍
This guy is the best rv salesman on yt.
wow.. TY :)
Love your well thought out review and your humour is appreciated
I Love my 2019 Wolf Pup....lack of a fridge/freezer is a dealbreaker for me as I need the larger unit. I've camped quite comfortably with my daughter and her 3 children as well as with my son and his rather large black dog. My husband and I camp quite comfortably with our two mini aussies in tow. So far the interior has held up quite well, and there hasn't been any problems with the cabinetry.
Uncle Josh is hilarious..he didn't even know he was giving us "symptoms".. he is like a RV doctor..giving us happy ,life RVing information ..
Loved the comparison! My wife and I are looking at purchasing an trailer within the next year and this was very helpful! Almost makes me wish I lived in Michigan! Thanks Josh!
Thank you for the comparisons. 💕
The Jayco bunks are much better per my kids. We went with jayco and love it.
I like the solar option and the light weight of jayco, the large bed for us and the privacy curtain and more private bunks. the safety and quality in the jayco is appreciated and well thought out.
GREAT reviews man!
You're REALLY helping me decide between THESE two TTs/companies!!!!
Excellent and fair comparison once again! Of the two, Forest River killed it.
I love all your videos Josh but when you do stuff like this, this is priceless!
Glad you enjoy it!
I really appreciate this video as someone who is in a months long look at lightweight bunkhouse but has very little access geographically to see many things in person.
Our pleasure! All we ask is you keep us in mind when you find yourself ready to move forward on something in return for efforts like these! Doesn't matter if you're local or cross-country. We make it happen!
Love these so similar comparisons!
My wife and I have the wolf pup 16 FQ. We love this camper and took it cross country in 2019. We were on the road for a month and a half. Very comfortable camper.
Thx for sharing, Karl! Appreciate having you here! :)
I have a 2013 Honda CRV EXL & a2016 CRV EXL TOURING. Would either of those vehicles pull this without damaging the engine/Trans or drive train or brakes?
@@fuzfire No, CRVs only tow 1500 lbs. You'd destroy your car.
Thank you so much for this video. I highly value your insight.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the scream during the Dad bod bit! I thought my kid was upstairs screaming!!!! Ran upstairs to make sure he’s ok and he’s out like a light. Had to pick my heart up off the floor!!!!!
Real late to this but thank you for making this video. Really helped me feel more informed about my choice when I bought a Wolf Pup earlier this year. Keep up the great work!
You did well then. Great product. I feel super fortune to have them among our lineup here
This is super informative comparison. Thank you I was very interested in both models and now I know I should pay attention.
Thanks for watching! Hope it helps you reach a decision!
Great idea for a video. I found this very informative, and valuable. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
I'm in the auto business and you do an amazing job at showing both products. Great job and keep it up!
TY! Our owner is old Ford Alumni, so a great deal of my training structure has actually been adapted from the automotive business (which is typically lightyears ahead of RV'ing when it comes to training and information availability)
Enjoyed the video. Just purchased. 2021 WOLF PUP t ring to figure it all out. My last travel trailer wS 46 years ago. Thanks for video. Great job.
Hope it helped! Congratulations, Peggy!!
Dude, Thank you for your straight-forwardness on the comparison between these two. I feel like your reviews here are far more honest than anything I could get from a salesman / dealer out here, because they always feel like they're trying to make that push for commission instead of educating. And you have a very personable vibe without losing professionalism. That's a tight rope to walk, man, but you do it well.
I try man. What's nice about having such a wide variety of RVs among our lineup is I can flat spell it out where they all nail it and fail it. Doesn't matter which one you like. We have them both. So let's be real about it
I like your video, never claim or deny, but very informative. Great job
Man I try!
This was a great video. Both of these trailers are on my shortlist.
Happy to be of service in return for the fair opportunity to earn your business when you're ready!
Thank you for this comparison. It was very helpful. I ended up purchasing the wolf pup from a local dealer in my area. Liked all the usable bells and whistles that will be used for years. Excided to get it out for the first camp trip next weekend.
Good choice! If this video was helpful in making that decision, the mind dropping a quick review for us at www.haylettautoandrv.com/review-us/ in return for the effort? :)
So did I
Really appreciate the shootout format!
Good to know! I hope to make a few more of these moving forward
I absolutely love the RHPS reference!
i like the comparison idea.
I love this kind of video!! Great comparison! And OMG you are soooooo funny!!!! Love all your videos! I am also a gadget lover and I think overall the Cherokee or Pup would be the winner for me. Love the larger fridge and recessed sink…more counter space!!! Keep these comparison videos coming please!!!! :)
Looking at buying my first RV. I so appreciate you sharing this detailed expertise

Hey Josh, I love the run through of all the units and the updates on the rv industry but I kind of miss the tips and words of wisdom from Uncle Josh too!
Oh no worries. We have plenty coming. Nearly 500 RVs on order right now. Stuff is just been slow to roll in, though we had three FRESH '21s publish this morning!!
As much as I love JAYCO I would definitely buy the wolf pup instead of the Jay flight in this case.. The air conditioner is just too important and I have seen how people in different RV forums talk about how hot bunks are and that’s bad enough with a ceiling air conditioner whether it be 13.5 or 15 it’s hard enough to keep cool in a bunk but when you add a smaller unit in the window only over the main bed and then factor in pulling the privacy curtain shut whoever is in that bunk is gonna be miserable from heat.
The Wolf pup kitchen wins as well. The flush mounted sink ,larger refrigerator and the stove top is so much better. I’m not a fan of the sunbeam red dial stove tops.
That being said, still waiting on the new JAYCO micros to come out so we can get walkthroughs.
First 166FBS Feather Micro is scheduled to arrive here either late this month or early next!!
they are both really nice campers, both to me with all the little extras its worth the weight difference. I would have to go with the wolf.
Thanks so much for the comparison! My hubby and I are considering both of these options and I think the Wolf Pup wins. Love your sense of humor also.
You are so welcome and THANK YOU for sharing something kind today :)
Quick note for you: Since the time this was filmed Jayco's supplier for that front window no longer offers that part. So currently *neither* brand has a front window on them
Great comparison!!!! Great videos as always!
TY Johnny!
Wolf pup all day. Especially for the BH models. The bottom bunk folds up for extra storage if you are not using it. That massive fridge and even an outside mini fridge.
I think i read someone removed the jayco top one.
I love the front window. Reason: it allows me to see the back of my truck bed , especially when Boondocking in a Walmart or truck stop 🛑. Safety!!!
Very good point!
Josh: We love our 16bh wolfpup! It is perfect for two people and allows 2 extra beds in case you need them. Our model is a little older and has the absorption fridge and dual electric/propane water heater! We have the shower but I think I would like the shlub, because it helps keep the shower curtain inside, preventing water outside of the shower on the floor. We have lots of extra outside storage, which you didn't cover. We have the storage under the queen bed and storage under the bottom bunk, which flips up for storing bigger items! My vote is for the Wolfpup.,
Thank you for watching!
Love your videos. I think you're in the perfect profession.
Wow. Ty Richard :)
helpful review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you.. I love the video.. you compared my 2 favourite RVS
Our pleasure! TY for watching. Hope to see you around our channel more often :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd The RV I almost bought and the one I still like best was a 2016( 2015?)16 feet long, Wolf Pup that had the door on the left side with the 3 piece bathroom on the left back wall with ceiling fan , a slide out table and large wraparound bench./bed on the centre back wall and a kitchen opposite it with a large counter, 2 burner stove, small sink, small fridge under counter, a microwave, a furnace and ceiling air conditioner and at the back a queen bed you could walk around with cupboards on both sides by the head and lots of storage under the bed...The only thing missing was an oven..oh ya it had an awning outside and some kind of music stuff...it was going to sell for 9 thousand Canadian. not sure what model./layout that was called but loved it..I drive a Ford Escape 4x4 SUV V6 that I would hope would tow this. Would like to take it off road too, Can you advise...I am in Canada PS. It also had the back bumper rack on the outside
Would go with the Wolf. Only 2 things I liked better on the Jayco. The dual hot water heater and Endurance tires. But you can always put Endurance on the Wolf.
The Wolf does have a gas/electric water heater so take that off the list.
Helpful info! Thanks!
You bet!
Just bought a 2021 cherekee wolf pup 14cc. I absolutely love mine n it's only yr old n love it
Ah congrats Jeff! Those are fun little guys :)
I have been on the fence between these to models. This is the perfect video for me. I am going with the wolf pup! Thanks for the video!
We looked at both and went with the Wolf Pup 16FQ last year. It ticked off all our 'must haves' and most 'wants'
18TO with the largest slide out is truly a game changer! After four years we still love it!
Yes, the Forest River junkie construction should be ashamed, but so are all RV today.
Just take a look at the large slide out and it's a no brains needed. The Pup 18TO is Awesome. We live in the north west mountains and love 4x4 off road camping. Most state federal camp sites are only 20' anyways in mountains and a small trailer is the best for getting into the real nice areas for our type of camping.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for this info and video! We are actually comparing the larger siblings of these 2 (the 26dbh and the 287bhs). I was curious what the true differences were between the two brands after I watched the individual videos on those as we've only owned a Rockwood Roo. We will definitely be coming to Haylett when it's time to buy as we are just in NE Indiana! Short drive to you guys and your information has been so helpful.
We look forward to assisting you when you’re ready!
My Forest River staples have failed 3 times. I always use screws to fix them. 3 areas trash counter entry for below 🗑 through the counter and drawers Not a fan at all of Staples. I do love the Counter Trash entry. We just had to fix it
Love the info, thank you. Your voice is so much like John Crier.
I get that from time to time. I'll trade paychecks with Ducky any day
Another great video, Josh. I agree, there are definite pros and cons to both. My biggest concern would be the air conditioner over the bed...would hate to see it leak onto the bed. Water on the floor is bad enough let alone a saturated bed. Just my thoughts.
Great review
TY Phil!
Great Video Josh, I think you left them both with something to think about right here. Now isn't the time to buy a camper. The industry is struggling to build inventory and with that comes mistakes. I watch Matt's RV too. Matt today showed a Forest River small toy hauler we went affordable to hand me my money here is what you get cheap. Your #1 in my book, with the Opee honest face always getting it right, or correcting and splicing the correction back in. Thank you...
While I understand what you're saying it does also come with a layer of presumption. I have a video coming out in the next week or two about this very topic.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!!
Love the comparisons! Between the two, I would go towards the wolf pup (and for me would also upgrade to the Black Lable). Many of the extra items I would use so there is value in them to me. You mention that the front window is nice in that it adds light into the camper, but I have also heard that many times it can let in the cold when trying to sleep at night, just going off comments from others. Having tires that can do the current highway speeds (even if you don't).
One ommision. I have done much research on both manufacturers. There are a lot more complaints lodged against
Forest River than Jayko. According to Travel Trailer Magazine there are many pending lawsuits against Forest River. Their workmanship and trouble potential seems a lot higher. I would just encourage you to do your research before you buy.
Please do a video with a wolf pup 16fq and other brand's similar layout. Thank you. Love your videos!
There just isn't enough time in the day for me to compare every single floor plan in every lineup to every similar model from every mfg unfortunately. All of the information in this video will naturally apply to the 16FQ. The 16BHS was used simply for demonstrational purposes.
We are buying the wolf pup. Thanks for the video help
Glad I could help! Would it be out of the question to ask you to drop me a quick review at g.page/r/CdPcitNVx2nDEAg/review in return for the helping hand?
The hideout 175 bh has some interesting features that I think people would be interested to know. Like the 8ft width, four seat dinette with no slide, and a larger bathroom with sink. I love mine and compared these models before I got it. Thanks!
I like hideouts actually but rarely get a chance to record them
Nice video. We live in Destin Fl but we may come up and buy from you. I like a salesperson that knows his stuff and can give honest comparisons. Your a rare breed these days. I will subscribe and will look at more videos. We will be buying in the Spring. Don’t be surprised when we call you. Al & Kathleen
TY :)
I'm not in sales myself btw but I try to assist where I can!
Also keep in mind this footage is now a bit outdated but MOSTLY still holds up
These are the 2 brands we compared when shopping. Here in DFW, dealers were actually about $2k more for the Jaycos. Our decision came down to the Jaycos in stock only had the side mount air. That really made me nervous to camp with in Texas summers. Went with the wolf pup for the AC, outdoor fridge (wife liked that part), and the bigger inside fridge, and u-dinette in our 17JG.
Really enjoyed seeing the comparison. 👍
I really enjoy comparison videos like this. I know this is an older video but hope you do more of those in the near future. Maybe a Jayco Jay Feather 166fbs vs a close competitor of your choice? Thanks Josh!
Yeah I need to try to make a few
Really like the comparison video. Good idea.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and subscribing! I'll work on more things like this
@@JoshtheRVNerd I'll watch every side-by-side video you put out for anything my FJ can pull! SO freaking tired of flipping from one video to another all over youtube, even worse since there are rarely paper brochures and have to switch from one PDF to another - and often the floor plan I'm interested in has no pics other than that simple floor plan. You're only 10 hrs from me, so I'm really grateful for these and know it takes a lot of time and planning to get it done - thanks!!
@@leapintothewild The list of them is growing! I have a playlist of comparisons started here: ruclips.net/p/PLUT5NkY-l88zukyiKhrCNqdwawrbltxl4
@@JoshtheRVNerd Great! I'll check it out. I've started on the educational playlist and picking up some stuff I hadn't thought about yet. I even research vacuums before buying, so this is right down my alley... lol
We have a 2019 Wolf Pup 16CBH. We love it. Though I will say after owning the Wolf Pup with the stable seps, I don’t really like living with them. Sometimes they cannot go low enough for the door to close without taking out the feet, and it’s really annoying having to fold them down to access inside the camper while on the road. Plus, you have to be really careful with them to avoid scrapping/damaging the door if the steps aren’t sitting low enough. I could live without them. But when camping, they certainly are nice and nice looking.
I'm looking to buy my first after tent camping all these years! Thanks for the informative video! My number one priority is a TUB. The more I can soak the better. Then a walk around bed. I do not want to climb over my husband to go pee!
Campers rarely have a tub adults can fit into. They usually just don't have the size or water capacity to handle them.
I'm only aware of a few destination trailers and small number of FWs with that feature
I do like the wind in the door. I can make window covers.
I bought the 2021 Wolf pup w/ shower on one side and toilet on the other. I like that.
Great match up! I’ve been shopping since the summer and not going with the jayco, the 2024 interior colors we hate, we’re going with the wolf pup 16bh black label
Josh, I just purchased the 2022 14ccbl wolf pup and the new subwoofer stereo is head and shoulders above my 35 foot North Trail stereo I was really impressed wit it!
Man that’s good to know Ty!!
Thanks for the side by side! I do a lot of cooking and I really like the fridge set up in the wolf pup so much more.
I also like that the top bunk is open to the room letting in more light from the window on that unit. Lots of things to like about them both but the kitchen would be the deciding factor for me.
Thanks for the insights and perspective :)
ok so if that front window open fully like 90 degrees outward yea id want that but i think your right that door is awesome
That’s a hard decision I like both but I’m thinking more towards the jayco because that front window
Awesome video! I'm not currently in the market for a travel trailer but, if I was, I'd be seriously thinking about making the 500+ mile trip to your dealership. Solid, useful, honest information makes ot worth the trip.
Ty :)
I would drive to him to buy just because how honest Josh is.
Cherokee Wolf Pup for the WIN. A very close race. I compared both and purchase the Wolf Pup (Limited Edition) more features for the money. I love the 12 volt Furrion fridge... It works great and with the juice pack it does a great job (AFTER I learned about the "off grid" setting.
Please explain the off grid setting. I just bought a Wolf Pup a couple of days ago, and do not know what it is or how to set it.
Wolf pups got solar panels I'm sold!!
Uncle Josh.....my 2 favorite name brands... it's a toss up .....when it's my turn to buy 1 ....😀👊🇺🇸
Really nice video. I've been watching your videos because we are looking. Think we've decided on the Wolf pup 14cc . If you were closer I'd sure swing by .
Here’s a look at one of those m.ruclips.net/video/jT2mIWGeR5k/видео.html
Once again another great comparison, still want a coachmen freedom express vs rockwood mini lite. Also i would pick wolf pup.
I definitely plan to make more of these comparisons once more units land on the grounds. Right now I have painfully little to show
I enjoyed this video ☺️☺️☺️ lol you are funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣 . I love the Wolf pup 😍😍
Thankya :)
dude you are the best.... I f i Buy it will from you
Cool
Marketing? "Sell the sizzle, NOT the steak!" 😀😍🤩☺😃
Good video sir. I do like the pup
Thanks 👍
Wolf Pup is the clear win, just bought my used 1 year old 16bhs for 17,000 and LOVE it !!!!
I am pretty biased as I own a jayco slx 184 bs but I gotta say I like the Cherokee features, they just weren't available in our area (kelowna, bc). I like the bunks in the jayco as they have a bit more privacy, and I like the tinted windows. The front of the jayco is sweet as you can lie on the bed and read a book and look out the 3 windows, plus we can load up the pantry. We are really happy with our jayco but either of these are great for a family camper, we only sleep in ours so we don't need a larger setup.
Your the Tom Brady of RV reviewers. Thanks.
Wow, thanks!
Damnit, Janet lol.
Great job. I think im going with the cherokee. Oh wait maybe the jayflight.
HAHAHA
Ideal for mfg. if they start out with a basic model trailer then build it out to the max including solar prep. leaving 1000 LBS. personnel cargo.
P.S. if they take out the outdoor frig. and replace it with a generator that can handle the a/c and micro wave.
TY Sir
It’s hard for me to believe that ANY RV would be manufactured today with a bathroom that doesn’t have a cheap plastic shower surround wall and a cheap vent fan. There are hundreds of ways to save money, leaving out a $20 bathroom fan for showering and using the toilet is a horrible marketing decision in my opinion?
12:41 I see you really are going to keep using the “Cooker-Hooker” RV Nerdism #37 for the outside gas hook-up connection❗️”That’s Your Uncle Josh!” 😉👍🏽
The response was overwhelmingly positive... wasn't intentional, but I'll Take it!
Haylett RV Reviews, News, & More // I liked it❗️👍🏽 😉😆
+ I like your new expanded YT Channel Name as well‼️👍🏽👍🏽 😉
Comfort is king and for us taller folk, the 60x80 bed is probably gonna win it every time. I tried a wolf pup east/west and walked out.
I have the W/P but I am not a lover of the step on the W/P as its not always easy to level the feet on uneven ground. I usually just keep some wood handy and take the feet off.one thing I like about the Jayco is the fact you wont knock your eye out on the corner of the cabinet over the sink. I would still buy the W/P over the Jayco all day long for all the extras. Anyone buying a new trailer should do lots of research on dealer prices, even if it means driving 300 miles round trip like I did, I saved $3000 doing that after checking dealers in a 200 mile radius. Water heaters are the same on both.
I'd be intrested in a Jay flight vs slx video!
I definitely plan to do that one as well as soon as some units land here. I think I like being able to SEE the RVs rather than sitting in my office doing this "Class Room Style"
It would have been helpful if you kept a small comparison chart in the corner like you normally do with the floor plan so we can keep up!
I thought about it, but didn't want to get too many graphics going on the screen. I already kind of struggle internally with too many things flashing up at you.
I've looked at both and am a Jayco fan,, But I love the Wolf Pup.. I guess in the end it would trickle down to affordability and Warranty
The cost will be extremely close between the two. Jayco‘s do still have a longer warranty though
Love to see a similar video of comparable bunkhouses (Jayco vs. Wildwood etc.)
As soon as we can get some more campers on the grounds I plan to get just that rather than sit in my office and do this "Class room style"
I think stuff like this is much more effective when we can actually see the campers and bounce between them
I agree and was going to ask for the same thing.
