Jerry Cantrell told Guitar World in 1996; "We're a lot of different things... I don't quite know what the mixture is, but there's definitely metal, blues, rock and roll, maybe a touch of punk. The metal part will never leave, and I never want it to" :)

Jerry was always the soul of the band aka the meat and potatoes. Layne was overrated not when it came to his talent, but to his actual contributions to the band. Aic's sound comes from 90% Jerry

AiC died when Layne couldn't tour consistently, listen to Mad Season = the band is Layne.

@@JEdwards713 dude Your talking out of your ass. Jerry was the one who wrote most of the songs including all the hit songs. He also is the one orchestrated the music. So Actually Jerry is the band. Yes Layne was badass & had great vocals but Jerry is what made Alice In Chains.

I can not believe that the reformed Alice In Chains are this good. Only half the original band has survived and they still sound amazing. Ridiculous.

I've always felt like Layne's voice carried so much pain in it. Was always palpable. You see shades of it in Jerry's voice now. I don't mind Duvall but he's a good singer and nothing more to me beyond that. Jerry still has me listening to them decades later.

AIC should be inducted into RRHOF. The most consistent band putting out good music & lyrics. Not one single crap song or album since day one.
