I'm convinced Jesse started his channel and company just to get people to send him free discs, so he can build the world's largest collection of weird discs 😂

Tomas from Lat 64 has said that they found no evidence that an overmolded disc will fly further, with that in mind and how difficult it can be make overmolded discs, that is why they cancelled the line. Also likely it could fringe on MVPs patent, so they wouldn't want that headache either.
Shoutout to Crosslap discs from my hometown Kassel, Germany. The founder is German Masters Champion Andreas Thöne who also designed one of the earliest and best courses in Calden, near Kassel. His discs though are more suitable for beginners and the "inner circle rim" in the Shadowplay Putter according to insiders was a mold error for which there was not enough money to retool the mold ;)
The dragon is a great disc. I bag it specifically for water hazard courses. Plus I throw it butter smooth straight so it’s came in clutch in some tunnel shots.
1/12 - I actually own a code x. Found it in a used bin and it made the bag for a while. Flies exactly like a midrange should but has such a small diameter, which makes it feel like a fairway. Overall, super unique disc! Thanks for the awesome video!
Puma was literally the first disc I threw/owned. I was helping someone move at college in 2001ish and they left that disc behind. Never played disc golf and started with a throw away dog chewed up Puma. Cool to see, I almost forgot what the name was until I saw it on here.
Just recently found out about your company and think it’s an awesome concept! Heard your comment about wanting to see how overmolded discs are made and I actually came a across a video by Smarter Every Day that goes behind the scenes with MVP about that very process. Hope that helps!
The Dragon is a must have for me... Local 18 hole course,15 of which have water hazards, most of that being water carry. And most of those have guardian trees as well... Fun. So yeah, great having a floating disc that still has at least a decent bit of weight to it.
Great video. I have an Innova Dragon and it's known in my friend group as "the meme disc" it's so hilariously beat in and understable. You can get a new one pretty easily in finland ^^
As a weird disc connoisseur I’ve thrown a couple of the ones you hadn’t heard of, the Gryffon, Procul, Dutchess and Code X and still have the Code X. It’s nice, kind of like a Wasp or Bard. I have the Salient Lockjaw in their premium plastic and it’s still buyable as the Yikun claws but I don’t think they have the premium plastic anymore. Also have the landmine and several others you showed, agree that the landmine is oddly satisfying. Weird discs can be super fun! I bag Stegos and people say that’s nuts but they fly great.
On the last disc, it looks like you could snap in short glow sticks, especially given the plastic color. Fly By Nite had a prototype putter where you could put an 8" glow stick in the rim, maybe this is Fly By Nite prototype driver?
In the earlier part of my career, I became a bit obsessive about buying and trying new discs. It led to the discovery of some of the best discs in my bag. It's how I discovered Kastaplast (Kaxe/Kaxe Z) and Daredevil Discs (I will always have a Walrus and Woodchuck) back in 2014 or 2015. The flip side of that coin is that I have also tried some of the worst discs ever made. I have actually owned and thrown 17 different discs that were discussed (and a bunch that weren't). I've actually owned and thrown the Raging Inferno DT, Lockjaw, #1 & #2 Flyer, Blowfly I & II, Epic, Arrow, and Sharpshooters, anything Nite Ize, the Griffon, both Crosslap Discs, the Procul, Bryce, Ninja, and Diablo DT. I used to buy Dragons to give to new players when I would take someone out to show them the game. The Yeti is a great disc from Daredevil. I don't bag it anymore, but it was a fun disc for a long time. I really enjoyed the video and love what you guys are doing for the sport. Keep up the good work.
The Crosslap Credo was the only one of the 12 I had heard of...because a couple weeks ago I met a guy who used them as his main putter at the Southern California Amateur Series Championships
I own the Franklin starter set(all 3) and a Daredevil Yeti. Starter set was on close-out for $14 @ my local supermarket 😂. I've had my yeti a few years; has an odd concave wing shape in addition to that nano-bead. If you haven't gotten that Franklin putter yet, I'll ask my daughter if she'll be willing to part with it. Great stuff, as usual dude!
I still have several RIP discs. And yes, I have a Quarter K.. the one preceding the Quarter K2. Then again, I’ve been playing disc golf since 1972 when Wham-O Frisbees were the only discs in existence.. before baskets or chains, before Steady Ed or Dave Dunipace.. yeah, I’m old.
You highlighted the Epic, Arrow, and Dragon. Fun fact. All Aerobie plastic also floats. Go and forehand the Arrow and let me know what you think! Keep an eye out for the Aerobie Sharpshoots #1, 2, or 3. They have some fun rims also!
Love the weird discs and owned most of them. Just heard you interview with SmashBoxx. Loved the discussion about QuestAT. Steve was amazing. I emailed him once about his discs and he sent me a box of 10 discs. I still bag the 10 meter brick and 10 meter crossfire. They have very specific uses that NO OTHER disc can replicate. One thing I did not hear you mention is that he was a pioneer on over-mold -- long before MVP. Although, MVP perfected it. But Steve's over-mold discs floated. So there is that!
I own a red Dragon. I bought it used like 20 years ago when I was starting out. I now keep it for when I have friends who are new to disc golf since it's understable and they can throw it around water without worrying about losing it. lol
I've got a friend who putts with and Aerobie Arrow, he LOVES that thing. He uses a scoober style putt and it flies very straight for him like that. Of the 12 discs I'm not supposed to have heard of, I actually knew the 2 Sporteer ones. I've got a friend who wanted to pick up Disc Golfing over the summer and found a Sporteer starter set he didn't know he had, both of those discs were in it
I have heard of the crampus, and the XCOM discs are actually pretty decent! I've got a couple. They are manufactured by a fairly new facility in Asia, where disc golf is pretty new. Those are the only 2 I've heard of.
I found a Lat64 Fuji in a pond, which is one of their overmold midranges. It's actually a pretty decent disc. Daredevil discs is Canadian. I want to like them, but the plastic is so weird.
I like the "Elastic Performance" plastic. it's basically a soft rubber, but maybe not as flexible as a Divergent Stay-Put, but slightly more flexible than K1 Soft. It's nice!
I have actually heard of quite a few of those discs and actually own a handful myself. I have had quite the fascination with odd and unique discs and would love to get my hands on some more. Informative as always Jesse 👍
@@corvusclimbs2166 I'm pretty sure this company was talked about on DG Course Review years back but now that you bring that up maybe I thought that too 😂
the grooves on the lockjaw and the #1flyer are known as the lines of headrick The epic was/is an amazing overhand disc. The disc "tuned" properly will do a barrel roll, flatten out and fly flat out of an overhand throw
I have a Cousin that plays with the Arrow as a need to stop putter, he rarely uses the mold and even in his 40's he can throw a putter GT Bangor soft X past 400 feet last I saw him play in 2019 with just a bag of GT Bangor Soft X and then 2--3 old Soft plastic for putting on a course the longest hole was 400 feet. He has other 7--9 fairway and control distance drivers at 9--11 speed but never really needs to use them.
The XCOM ones are super common. It's a fairly big Chinese company that copies US moulds and sells them for less. They will also put any stamp/brand you want on them so there are a ton of random discs out there that are secretly XCOM. Griffon is one of their most popular discs.
I have heard of the Sportneer Discs. I was given the 6 disc starter set as a gift one Christmas. They have the water themed set and the other set has Mauri themed tattoo looking stamps. They fly OK. I throw them when I see alot of water. 😁
The codex was part of a disc member monthly box. I have 2 friends that have them and still use them, but that was the only one of the 12 I had heard about.
5/12! I actually got that Sportiner starter set off of Amazon as my first set of discs. They aren't bad discs, but not very beginner friendly. They're VERY weird though, definitely manufactured by XCOM. The ones with fish names use old XCOM names and stamps, but for different speed discs then what XCOM used. For example, the Sportiner Grampus is a putter while the XCOM Grampus was a midrange! The company also uses XCOM's new names and stamps switched around the same way. They sell both sets as a starter set for around $40. Super strange!
I love the flashflight putter! I have 2 putters, but they stopped making them before I was able to get the mid and driver. I would have bought 2 or 3 sets if I'd been playing back then.
My dad still has a Raging Inferno on the shelf. I had a different disc that had dimples on the bottom but were different looking. More like scales on a fish. I'm not sure what brand it was. I recently picket up an Aerobie Arrow though! The OG Berg!
The code x... I have one! I used to scroll through the weird manufacturers on infinite and buy the small company plastic when I could find it. It's a much more overstable midrange disc than you would think.
There certainly was a Quarter K 1. I still have an un-thrown one in a bag on my rack. They were a cool idea but that plastic was so soft that the first tree you hit would basically ruin the integrity of its flight.
Heard of the Ballistic. RIP Disc golf was a company of one dude by the name of Skipper Hamilton. I had 2 signed 1st run ballistics back in the day. I also used to putt with a graboide, it's a fantastic putter with a real odd bead. I also own a Relic that's been thrown very little. The overmolding was actually more of a rubber. Made the putters grab chains like crazy. If you want more info I can help with RIP.
Yep! Innova Puma and Barracuda were my go to’s back as a kid playing DG with my dad and his coworkers. Hah It’s freaky to me how much the game has changed since then.
I’ve heard of the first one, the ZPQ or whatever it was, only because I found one at my local course. Also heard of Rip Discs. I have a Relic, which is their overmold putter
The last disc was a Quest AT odyssey, without the overmold, i have one before the overmold and its the same disc. Hope i was able to shed some light and if so throw me some plastic!😊
My buddy pulled out his disc golf bag from the late 90's/ early 00's and we found an innova Monarch and Wolf. The wolf is basically a Rhino top mold and a Roc bottom mold. The Monarch has a weird semicircle notch removed from the flight plate. Keep an eye open for both!
There WAS a Quarter K 1! The 2 was more of what we consider something like Star or ESP plastic, and it was flippier than the original QK. The original one was a SUPER interesting disc to throw - it was, if I remember correctly, the PhD thesis for its inventor. It was essentially unaffected by wind. Like freakily so. It was slightly overstable for a distance driver. It's big flaw, and what led to the QK2's development, is that the plastic wouldn't ding when you hit a tree. It would bubble up a BIG section of the top of the disc. Like 3 inches on either side of the tree hit would suddenly have the weirdest extra dome. Once the whole top of the disc became domey like that, it would essentially become too flippy to use. Until then though? Super nice.
Bought an epic when they came out, back when I first started disc golfing. Still have it and i's in pretty good shape, because it didn't get much use lol. I wish I had kept more of my older discs from back then. Crazy to think that when I started, the Beast had just came out, and it was the fastest disc in Innovas lineup (Valkyrie was still the record holder for distance). Star plastic wasn't even a thing. You had DX for the beginners and some pros, Pro plastic was considered the go to for pros because of its glide and grip, and Champion was just the work horse durable plastic. The price hasn't even changed much either. A tie Dye champion or Z plastic was $20-25 depending on where you bought it.
That final and unknown disc would be perfect for an idea I want to bring to life which is a disc that has flint in the rim so when you throw it at pavement at night it would create sparks.
2/12 So alot of people have heard of the Grumpus but my first starter set was the full 6 disc Sportneer set. I still use the driver and Midrange on occasion but with the soft plastic they are becoming very flippy. They will probably all end up in your program eventually haha
I had heard of the Grampus (surprisingly good putter evidently) the open water (my friend got one in a mystery box, way more under-stable than the numbers) and the launch code x (they were selling them for half off at my local disc golf shop. looks kinda like a roc clone)
3: I own a Griffon. Found it on Infinite discs a few years back. Great beginner disc. I have seen Foundation use the Grampus. And I have heard of the Duchess because I got my mom a Baron. Underrated plastic. P.S. Lat 64's overmolded discs are underrated as heck
Crosslap retails other brands as well as manufacturer their own discs here in Germany. So when shopping for discs in Germany sooner or later you run across their online shop. Local retailers are quite rare in Germany 😢
If you are looking to sell off the Ballistic disc from RIP discs... I would buy both. I live in Eugene and have the Ballistic and the overmold putters. They are blocky but awesome. I'd also buy the quarter K's! I have heard of most of these and I have a few that are absolutely wild!
*Discs never heard of* I bought the NQV starter set on Amazon in Nov 23 just to get something to throw. Disc is ultra hard and uncomfortable. Almost immediately ordered a box of misprints from a major manufacturer to replace all of the NQV discs. NQV is better to give to a kid that’s gonna throw it in the lake. 🤦♂️ 6:59
While that Yeti looks pretty old, daredevil is still selling them and it's one of there most popular molds according to their site. Locally here in southern ontario they are better known for the woodchuck which is a rubber putter and my favorite short range upshot disc. They've got a fairly large offering of discs although as much as flight numbers don't matter, they really don't matter with daredevil. They use their own way of determining turn and fade that do not map to what you'd be used to.
Grew up in Oregon, that where I started DG at champoeg state park disc golf. I had the Relic and Graboid. Very firm, odd disc even as a new player, I just like they were local, now lost or donated years ago.
I got the hand candy one in a tournament players pack years ago then the mid range the one with the TMNT ooze container stamp looking one I got in a disc store monthly box
I've heard of: 1. Openwater 2. Creedo 3. Duchess(I own a COUNT from them) 4. Ballistic(I own one) I thought i was gonna do better at that game... And yes there was a Quarter K 1, and they're fairly valuable, and I own one.
I have two sets of the Franklin starter set. More than willing to give them up for a future video? Maybe a disc swap for an authentic trashpanda? 🎉 Merry discmas!
When I was younger I had a bunch of discs from Lightning discs, I actually have a disc that is about 95% dimples with a dead Bart Simpson stamp on it called the grateful dude, it’s the only disc I ever seen like it
I'm convinced Jesse started his channel and company just to get people to send him free discs, so he can build the world's largest collection of weird discs 😂
It's working
There was never a doubt about this
I look forward to the day when I can visit the weird disc museum
Facts.
Dream job
No way!!! That’s my inner core! And my dog!!! Had to send it back so I could buy one without the teeth marks, love what you stand for and make Jesse

I had heard of 6 of them! And the UB Disc Golf disc is the Procul in the Hand Candy plastic. We did a review on this disc years ago 😁

This is exactly what I thought as well.
BTW that UB Hand Candy is called the Tasty Percul made by UB Disc Golf
I have that same Launch Code X! It was from a DiscMember box a couple years ago.
Hand Candy is the Procul. They were going for the first “boutique” disc brand. Early runs were hand poured I believe
I love your weird disc videos! You are probably in the best place to be able to enlighten us on what used to be out there!

Yeah, I can’t express how jealous I am of some of the amazing rare discs people send you.
I throw some Plastic Paradise discs(Optimizer and Maximizers) and never heard of one of the 12 odd discs. Great video!
Surprised you didn't get any Discraft Waves aka the Discraft Groove

I’m getting the seconds bundle for Christmas from my parents!!! I’m new to disc golf so I’m super excited.
5/12: both Launch discs (although I only bagged their Elder, which is a better Shryke), the Lat64 Bryce, Innova Dragon and Gateway Ninja.

I only knew the Sportineer ones so like 2-3 out of 12 and was reminded of the duchess when the video flashback started but didnt remember it offhand!
The Puma!
Haha Taking me down memory lane.
I bagged that and a Barracuda when I was 12 y/o playing disc golf with my dad.
I own a red Dragon. I bought it used like 20 years ago when I was starting out. I now keep it for when I have friends who are new to disc golf since it's understable and they can throw it around water without worrying about losing it. lol

1/12. Heard of the UB hand candy. As a gummy plastic aficionado, I've always wanted to try one.
When I first started DG I had the Arrow and the Epic. The Epic flies far but if the disc hits anything solid it will immediately change stability.
I’ve seen a couple of the over molded latitude discs in used bins. But only a couple.

The price hasn't even changed much either. A tie Dye champion or Z plastic was $20-25 depending on where you bought it.
I remember finding a latitude 64 over molded disc in the used bin at Marshall Street disc golf last year. I should have bought it for posterity.
Friends have been throwing the code for years favorite mid except they didn't know what it was. Got it in a mystery box and loved it.
I still have my Innova Puma in my bag. It was my favorite disc as a kid!
My starter set had that NQV champion driver! Super flippy, but not unusable
That final and unknown disc would be perfect for an idea I want to bring to life which is a disc that has flint in the rim so when you throw it at pavement at night it would create sparks.
as a brand new rookie to disc golf. The innova Dragon is a great disc.
Xcom griffin is a fun disc. Nice and flippy but controllable. Their glow plastic feels great and glows pretty good too.
That unknown proto is a Raider! If you look at the PDGA approved disc Raider page it’s under photos!
5/12. I bought some discs by obscure brands from Infinite Discs, including Launch, Disc Golf UK, Crosslap, and XCom, so I have all of those.
I bag a Launch Cypher. I love that disc. I won it at league and it's been in my bag ever since...so I've heard of Launch, but that's it.
I knew 2 from a Foundation Starter Pack Video, the Grampus and Volador. Trevor almost kept the Grampus in his bag.
I've heard of the crosslap disc. They also make the best cart on the market!
2/12 So alot of people have heard of the Grumpus but my first starter set was the full 6 disc Sportneer set. I still use the driver and Midrange on occasion but with the soft plastic they are becoming very flippy. They will probably all end up in your program eventually haha
I basically only knew of the aerobes discs since I throw a arrow personally but am considering switching to a berg
Yep... 0 out of 12 on the discs. Fascinating video!
Quarter K 1s were all hand poured and flew like crazy. They started molding the 2s and just didn’t fly the same. Very flippy.
Ha ! Love it...I work at Nite Ize... I have those flashlight discs here.
When are those hoodies going on sale??? So slick!
*Discs never heard of*
I bought the NQV starter set on Amazon in Nov 23 just to get something to throw. Disc is ultra hard and uncomfortable. Almost immediately ordered a box of misprints from a major manufacturer to replace all of the NQV discs. NQV is better to give to a kid that’s gonna throw it in the lake. 🤦♂️ 6:59
i feel like the last disc is really similar to how yikun does their overmolding!
I've seen all the grip and rip discs before but thats probably because I played primarily in Oregon 20+ years ago.
I thought Daredevil went out of business? Good to know.
@@caseysmith544 Nah they are still around. They even released a new signature line of big horns for one of our local pros Chris Ozolins.
Grew up in Oregon, that where I started DG at champoeg state park disc golf. I had the Relic and Graboid. Very firm, odd disc even as a new player, I just like they were local, now lost or donated years ago.
I have the Franklin putter and its money. No joke.
I got the hand candy one in a tournament players pack years ago then the mid range the one with the TMNT ooze container stamp looking one I got in a disc store monthly box
I've heard of:
1. Openwater
2. Creedo
3. Duchess(I own a COUNT from them)
4. Ballistic(I own one)
I thought i was gonna do better at that game...
And yes there was a Quarter K 1, and they're fairly valuable, and I own one.
I have two sets of the Franklin starter set. More than willing to give them up for a future video? Maybe a disc swap for an authentic trashpanda? 🎉 Merry discmas!
Kinda late to the party but I'm actually a big fan of Daredevil Discs. Got my first ace with their Walrus Mid.
I have herd of several of those.the one at the kinda looks like a twin sword but with out the over-mold
When I was younger I had a bunch of discs from Lightning discs, I actually have a disc that is about 95% dimples with a dead Bart Simpson stamp on it called the grateful dude, it’s the only disc I ever seen like it
