- Learn how to change iTunes backup location in windows 10, in this complete guide. You can change iTunes backup location to external hard drive, NAS, ‘D’ drive or to any storage medium using this method on Windows 10. Basically, we can use Windows PowerShell or Command Prompt on a computer and run few command to change iTunes backup location. In this tutorial, I have also covered how you can revert back to ‘C’ drive or cancel new iTunes backup location without losing your data.

👉🏼 For iTunes installed from Apple’s website:
cmd /c mklink /J “C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup” “NEW iTUNES BACKUP LOCATION”
👉🏼 For iTunes installed from Microsoft Store on Windows 10 computer:
cmd /c mklink /J “C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Apple\MobileSync\Backup” “NEW iTUNES BACKUP LOCATION”
👉🏼 For removing new iTunes backup location:
cmd /c rmdir NEW iTUNES BACKUP LOCATION
✅ Note:
- USERNAME shall be replaced with your Windows username. Most of the times, it shall be your own name.
- ‘C’ drive is the Windows 10 installation drive. 99% of the times, Windows is installed on ‘C’ drive for casual users. Change it if you have installed it on another drive.
- NEW iTUNES BACKUP LOCATION shall be replaced your preferred iTunes backup location which could be ‘D’ drive, ‘E’ drive, NAS or external hard drive.

now my problem is that i transferred the backup in my external hard i want to get rid of my laptop in which it was backed up and also i don't have that iphone now (the one's backup i transferred ) .

Thank you!!!!!! I’m getting a new iPhone today, but I have voicemails from both my parents that I’ve saved to voice memos so I can save them since they’ve both passed away in the last three years. I bought a new computer and external hard drive so I can make sure they are saved since I’ll never get to hear their voices again without those memos. I didn’t even think about the storage on the computer since I was planning on saving everything to the external drive, but of course that wasn’t easy to change where my iPhone would store my backup. The past few days I've been re-dowloading everything to my D drive (because I have no idea how else to do it) because my C drive was full. I just got an iPhone 13 and I'm getting it set up tomorrow. [Update] 🔴 Guys, I see people facing issues while restoring iPhone after backing up using this method. Please don't save your iPhone backups on external hard drive, if it is not that necessary.
And remove this link and save iPhone backup on C drive (default) before you restore it to your iPhone.
Avoid restoring directly from Had Disk. 🤷🏻♂️
All files end with .plist

So what is the point then? Chances are, you’re doing this because you don’t have room on C drive. Can you not restore them from external? Then why waste your time?

@@DearxDhea it ended up working for me on a restore. The backup file from the external HD popped up when restoring and it worked just fine.
