  • Here is the link to the code I wrote to control my Paragon I transceiver with Python on github:
    Click link below:
    github.com/jef...
This Ten Tec Paragon I is drawing too much current from the 9V back up battery over night.
Next morning the back up battery is dead.
Upon power up the transceiver will not boot correctly. Hangs and does nothing.
    Or PLL Unlock.
I had this program working with newer versions of the Ten Tec Paragon I with the Giehl N4PY firmware..
    groups.io/g/Te...
I think now this Paragon (from hell) #2 has the original Ten Tec Paragon I firmware.
I used to be able to set the date and time with this Python program.
As in this version of the firmware you need to spin hte VFO to set the date
I do NOT think I will be able to set the date and time from this Python Program.
I really need to debug the current draw issue from the 9V backup battery with power off.
I think it is the optional voice board.
    ========
Both chips provide worthwhile upgrades, but they are not the same chip. The Geihl chip did the following:
Ham bands can be accessed by either the ham up and ham down keys or by 1 through 9 on the keypad.
Band registers have been added to store the last vfo frequency, mode, and filter for all nine ham bands.
The latest memory channel number accessed is retained for later use.
The vfo tuning rate resolution is user selectable. Each vfo has an offset of +- 99.99 kHz and simultaneous receive and transmit offsets are possible.
A 10 minute timer can be turned on to remind the operator to identify. A symbol appears to the right of the 10 Hz display when transmitting. Memory Tune and Memory Scan can be operated without affecting the vfo.
The Date and Clock set use the vfo knob to make changes. The clock displays hours, minutes, and seconds.
The Memory scan routine uses the vfo knob to set the speed of the scan.
The voice function has an enhanced mode to provide additional information to the operator. The frequency display blanks leading zeroes and decimal points. Zero is now displayed without a slash.
Many functions such as VOICE can now be activated while transmitting.
The up and down keys can have an increment value selected by the operator of 100 kHz and 1 mHz or 10 kHz and 5 kHz. The 5 kHz increment is useful for short wave listening, and the 10 kHz increment is useful for AM Broadcast reception.
Two additional memory channels have been added to create a total of 64 memory channels (00 to 63) plus the Scratch Pad.
While The N4PY chip provided changes to the original Paragon that made it very close to a Paragon II:
Two band stacking registers for each ham band
Icom CI-V serial port operation for logging programs
Up/Down arrows move to next band by mode
    Frequency Scan
    Quick Split
Provisions for front panel receive antenna control
    Special memory tune by mode
Both are out of production, but really improve the original Paragon, so if you find either one, grab it.

I have a Omni 6 plus, late model, does my model have the capabilities that the Paragon has?
