- Witnesses told HPD that the woman had just gotten off a bus with her children and was not in a crosswalk as she crossed Antoine near Pinemont in NW Houston.
HPD trying to cover their a$$ on this one.
The fault is still on the Driver. The Driver has the responsibility of being alert at all times. How you not see a group of ppl in the street
No you're wrong. You can only cross at a crosswalk... this is J-walking which is ILLEGAL.
@@howulikedemrice You are correct that jaywalking is illegal, however, the driver may still be found at fault if you had sufficient time to slow or stop, were distracted as the driver, etc. Traffic and weather conditions are also taken into account.
I use to lived in Houston for 5 years and I can’t blame the driver for the accident. The metro bus stops are horribly placed in an already dangerous Houston road. It’s almost a daily occurrence that a pedestrian was getting hit by a car when I lived there. It’s sad to see a loss of life. Especially in front of children.
Jaywalking is crossing in the middle of the block. When there is not a crosswalk there is no law against crossing at an intersection. That video certainly looks like they were at the intersection.

More cross walk won't solve the problem. The city put bicycle lanes in downtown. Yet most bicycle riders are riding whichever way they like to, and they police dent ticket them

.1 miles and what? .25 miles? That's plenty of crosswalks for that area. Even if the reporter was understating, .2 miles is ~1060 feet. It is tragic, but crosswalks aren't the issue.
it's almost impossible to even walk in Houston, the sidewalks are like a mile along your legs with hurt before you even hit the end i can say this im a boxer i walk and run a lot when im not at the gym

I can tell you firsthand that people still don’t stop at crosswalks. I’ve nearly been run over numerous times in a light controlled crosswalk.
JUST because you are in a crosswalk means little; you still need to have a WALK signal before entering the roadway.
Reality is anything you cross a roadway you better have a good idea of all the traffic and only cross when it's safe to do so.
How many civilians has HPD killed this year?
Correction: How many people have put their lives at risk by engaging in reckless behavior?

@VintagepaperdollcuttingC-wq5ql No one was murdered. Streets designed for vehicular traffic are not there for pedestrians to be wandering in the path of traffic. Do you put your easy chair on the train tracks? Yes, it's sad, but unfortunately when a human does something reckless, bad things can happen. The vehicle that struck her could have been a school bus full of children, or a businessman on his way to work, or a politician, /lawyer/banker..... Point being, the driver was driving where driving takes place. First responders have a very difficult task, and this just makes it harder for them. She should have given more attention to her own personal responsibility , and she would be alive. I'd feel the same way if she were my family member.

We have investigated. It was not the negligent cops fault. The lady bent over in the street behind a stopped bus that was in front of her in the street stopped with flashing lights, and the cop hit her. It was her fault and the cop is the victim. The cop rendered aid.

Don't WALK in the road made for vehicles .
Wrong way to look at this. If you are driving any vehicle, you have the control of vehicle. If you come in contact with anything you are held accountable. If you hit a sign you will get a ticket.
So sad but you can see the video confirms what a witness said. The mother dropped something in the street and went to pick it up and she was then hit. At 2:22 you can see the kids are on the sidewalk and the mother steps out onto the street right when the car is passing. There is nothing the driver could have done. This is literally someone jumping out in front of you as you are driving.
She was in the middle of the street at night. Very tragic and sad but it wasn't the cops fault.
And they will pull up her pass and try to dis credit her and find her at fault and cover it up and it begins

Blue line gang strikes again!! The inward facing camera in this cruiser will show what these officers were distracted by the moment they killed this poor woman. They were probably setting up Grindr play dates to entertain themselves while on duty, if of course the footage isn’t inexplicable lost…
