      WOW, brilliant!!! I could feel the spirit reaching out, listening to you two. I know that the Book of Mormon has power to change me when I “seriously “ study it. I feel its power when I contemplate on certain words & apply it. We’re a better people if we abide by the truths taught in the book. Thank you so much👌👍

    I am blown away. I have never ever in my life heard of chiasmus. Which is incredibly surprising as my husband had a BA in Religious Studies and also a Masters of Divinity. Maybe he had heard about this and never got around to sharing it with me. But I am just blown away right now and feel like I have so much to ponder on. Thank you for the weekly videos!!

    When I first read the Book of Mormon, I noticed that some scriptures were repeated and I thought it a waste of time it took to etch out the words. After being a member for 40 years, I now understand why it was written this way. Thank you!

    I cannot begin to tell you how much this particular lesson has done for me. I’ve loved your lessons but this one has blown my mind and added to my testimony a hundredfold. My heart is bursting like the Grinch in that childhood Christmas show. Thank you so much doesn’t express my feelings. My light has just been increased.

    I'm pretty sure I've heard Hugh Nibley talk at length about chiastic structures in the Book of Mormon, and I guess I've always just assumed its existence was widely known for a hundred years or more. I can't believe this is the man, right here! VERY cool! The content you guys produce is phenomenal! Thank you!

    I thought that I loved the Book of Mormon with ALL my heart before I learned of this literary device- chiasmus-- used by the prophets in the book--- I was wrong- it has given me another way to show and share the fact that the words in this GIFT are FROM GOD. What a valuable and powerful tool to prove to those with questions that the book was delivered to Joseph Smith to translate and share for us!! my love is deeper than I thought possible--THANK YOU.---rick

    I love that while the topic is about an external witness, Brother Welch teaches of Jesus Christ's love and sacrifice for us and what His healing power can do in our lives. A great example of finding the real meaning and purpose of the Book of Mormon. Nothing about external evidences contributes to what this Church teaches is a testimony, and that's the focus, even on Book of Mormon Central - the point is to bring people to Christ and have a personal experience of your own. Evidences and proofs fade away into insignificance in the light of the Holy Spirit. This video is beautifully executed because of that. And no one opposed to the Church understands that and they don't want others to understand it. Thank you for this.

    I had seen the patterns in my own Book of Mormon reading, but didn't know that Chaisums were a formal thing until I read about Bro. Welch's information some years ago. It was another thing that reinforced my testimony of the Book of Mormon. As I study I wonder what other wonderful things I will find. Thanks for sharing.

    Question: With no paragraphs or punctuation would a literal translation also have no capitalization for proper nouns, especially deity? Would every letter be lowercase?

      Right to left no vowels only constants. The letters look like capital symbols to me. I would trust Joseph Smith translation is probably right it is from God.

    Interesting that in Alma 39:9 he calls his son Corianton to repent and says "cross yourself in these things". Understanding the chiasmus in Alma 36, it seems clear he is referring back to his own moment of crossing when he called on the mercy of the son of God even Jesus Christ. Absolutely beautiful.

    Reading in Ether we see Moroni stop and tell us that he (and his people) are not strong in writing. He worries that those who read the Book of Mormon will find only fault in the writing itself instead of the wonderful message that these people bring us, the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. But in this video, for almost an hour, we hear how beautiful their writing is. How wonderful and meaningful the way that they write truly is.

    💐 I liked this presentation a lot. I have a notebook in Gospel Tools app called "Heart of the Matter" it is the very center verse or verses in a chapter (if they jumped out or spoke to me.) Now I want to go back and look for chiasmus!
    💐 I also find great hints towards baptism in many 8 numbered verses.

    Chiasmus in the Book of Mormon and a possible modern day Chiasmus currently in the making.
    This Comment is intended to be positive in every way, if it is taken negatively by any, it is through faults of my own. In this light, this comment is intended to be a complement to those involved on both sides of the subject.
    In this presentation on chiasmus, it is pointed out that one part of the chiasmus is to show what something is, and the other part of the chiasmus shows what it shouldn’t be.
    It is presented that this form of writing and communication is a way of conveying that the message is serious and important, and helps the student learn and understand on an elevated level of learning the truth of the concept and message being taught.
    So this is the impression that was immediately impressed upon my mind by the spirit of the holy ghost in regards to this chiasmic way of communication to teach others in a serious way of an experience.
    What if there is currently an experience taking place right now in these modern (Latter) days that the Lord is teaching and unfolding in a chiasmic way. A way that when completely unfolded will show the seriousness of the gospel truths through the Book of Mormon and what the Lord has been teaching us for many years that this book is true.
    In a Chiasmic way, is the Lord currently teaching us the “What it is”, vs, “What it isn’t” when some are pointing to where the Book of Mormon took place in America the United States, and some are pointing to Central Mesoamerica? Could the Lord be unfolding this Chiasmic experience right before us in our day?

    • @taylorhalverson3052
      @taylorhalverson3052 4 года назад

      Interesting thought. But that isn't how chiasmus works. Furthermore, chiasmus is a literary pattern, not a historical pattern. Learn more here: chiasmusresources.org/

      I agree with Taylor, but you might want to check out this lecture and perhaps it might shed some light. You decide ruclips.net/video/rHVh3bDYGRE/видео.html

    • @larryhawkes1347
      @larryhawkes1347 4 года назад

      Yes, this video you mention and the other way it gets presented in mesoamerica, is what I was referring to in sort of a chiasmic way.
      So yes it most likely does not fit the chiasmic concept, but as explained a chiasmaus shows what something is and isn't. At some point it will be revealed where the Book of Mormon took place and where the Book of Mormon did not take place sort of like a chiasma describes what something is and what something isn't.
      My main impression of this thought is that the Lord is allowing both concepts for now to make a serious point at some time in the future of where the Book of Mormon actually took place.

    Since John W. Welch is a walking Chiasmus I tried to see if his name is a Chiasmus. John means God has been gracious and the verb to welch or welsh means to cheat by avoiding the payment of a debt, which could be another definition of grace. So John Welch could be: Grace Grace. Just wonder what the W. Stands for? 🤔 😆
