I know you had no way to tell but your opponent on round 3 was actually on Mono G Cloudpost, they're into_play, a dedicated Cloudpost player. They got pressured so hard by what the deck was doing that the Cloudpost part of the deck wasn't able to show up in time. Also I loved to see the deck in action, I'm a Hogaak player and one of the things I like the most about the deck is putting a ton of power into the board as early as turn 2, seeing a deck being able to do that while (almost) completely ignoring graveyard interaction is amazing! I'll definitely be trying it out.
Cool that someone else noticed it. I follow Tony and he is a great player. I really like his calm play style and am glad that he consistently does well with the deck, like his recent challenge win. I think him and the deck would benefit a lot from edited, straight to youtube, videos instead of just dumping the stream.
This deck was really cool. At 43:49, I've been so conditioned by watching you always call plays ahead of time that I really thought we were about to watch that exact sequence of events play out. At the end you mentioned that this deck was sort of a glass cannon, but unlike, e.g., Belcher, it seems like you get to refire with very little wait time. Any Looting, Inquiry, Ravager, Ox, etc. seems like it ends up with multiple creatures in play from nothing. If I had to guess, playing this deck would lead to a lot of salty "nice topdeck"s in chat, when really it's just the way the deck is designed to operate.
You know the deck has that x factor when you get 10 power on turn one and crack a lions eye diamond for the discard only and dont even use the 3 mana from it xD
I thought in a meta with Endurance (sometimes main deck) and 4+ FoW effects main deck in UR delver or Bant control that this deck will struggle but seeing the 8 lizards in action (especially the new red one) it seems that it might be more resilient to such effects than I thought at first. I love those little critters :)
I'd been thinking the madness deck had the legs to get there since we first saw blazing rootwalla, glad to see just how right I was, this deck is great!
No avocado in the shot, immediately downvoted Good lord this deck is like throwing bottle rockets in your opponent's window. ... feels like you may have different opinions on anger
It's a line I used to run in a Cheerios list. 4 rootwalla, 1 anger, 1 rite, when your playing a deck that draws your whole deck in one turn pretty often it's a solid kill
Dammit Phil, just watched and then rushed to buy the cards to play this deck. With so many new cards and fun brews, I have no idea what I am going to try first.
I'm not really sure why this two year old video got recommended to me today (other than the fact that I watch A LOT of your videos), but I'm sure glad it did.
Is it worth running a run afoul in the sideboard to deal with Marit lage and Emrakul or is the chance that you will end up discarding it mean it doesn't justify inclusion?
You said "if it was a tournament I wouldn't have gone all in" - why not? it still wins when they don't have swords. Definitely a flaw in many players games that they are too risk averse when playing high-risk high-impact decks - if the deck is a glass canon, you should be pushing risk to win faster. Sometimes you have to risk losing turn one because its the best overall play. refusing to take risks doesn't help you win more.
This deck doesn't have to be a glass cannon all the time though. You can grind out Vengevine recursion advantage over time, set up draw 3 turns with Anje's Ravager... there's more than just the linear beatdown here.
at around 38:36 I don't understand how you can cast hollow one?! You discarded 2 cards, vengevine and blazing rootwalla. After having cast faithless looting, you don't have any mana available, so how can you cast hollow one with a fetchland without cracking it? If you only discarded 2 cards, shouldn't it still cost 1 mana? I'm new to magic* 😅
@@ThrabenUniversity oh i totally see now🥲 and feel stupid 😅. I will check the entire board next time I don‘t follow something… thank you a lot for your answer! :)
I can't tell if you are pronouncing it as a meme or not, but Anje is a German name and is pronounced "AHN-yuh". The vowel in "je" is pronounced like the "oo" in "foot" or "soot". :)
@@ThrabenUniversity I love this silly lizard, it seems so innocuous, then you tell people "yeah it's an 8 of in one of the best decks in a format where you can play Black Lotus".
49:54 I like that you said your opponent's turn 1 play of island Preordain was scary then you put in 9-power worth of attackers on your own turn 1.
I mean...

it would be super cool if he brought tony on for like a cloudpost stream/league :)

Greatly appreciate all the uploads recently! MH2 has injected so much fun into the game
This is one of my favorite periods of Magic EVER. It's been so fun testing all this new stuff.
Always happy to see a 5-0 in the title, even if it is slightly spoilery :P
I was happy to finally pick up a trophy. There have been SO MANY 4-1s recently that fell just short.
@@ThrabenUniversity Grats! Looking forward to watching.
Solid Iron Maiden impression in the opener. Nice. I think Kitchen imp is the mh2 madness creature you were thinking of in the deck tech.
That's one of the ones I had in mind!
You know the deck has that x factor when you get 10 power on turn one and crack a lions eye diamond for the discard only and dont even use the 3 mana from it xD
Lol, yeah, I think people need to counter LED every time vs this.
I think this has to be the fastest 5-0 league you’ve uploaded, damn this deck is strong…
The version with black might be even better...

Yeah, I think this deck is pretty darn resilient. It's harder to hate on than you might expect at first glance.
I always love the brand of wacky base Gruul decks seem to constantly support in eternal formats.
This was sweet! I have Bosh and Roll streaming my Hogaak Hollowvine brew of mine soon.
Nice! Brian has been doing great work. I watch a bit of his videos over lunch when I have time.
"I'm here to do the thing, & I did the thing"
Cheers to that!
I really love seeing u play my list from the challenge. Thx 4 the video
I loved it! I'm not sure if the list is better with the imp and other black cards, but this general strategy is STRONG!
Yeah I'm still testing to find the best variant of the deck, but I love to see how much the deck is played atm
Glad you took this deck as bosh was too afraid or something, I remember he was destroyed by this deck on some of his videos.
The little lizards that could. This deck looks awesome. Really interesting games Phil!
This deck looks so sick! I've never really wanted to play Legacy before but this deck really makes me want to lol
The format is a blast. Proxy some decks up and try it with a friend at some point!
like just for the Iron Maiden reference at the start
I'd been thinking the madness deck had the legs to get there since we first saw blazing rootwalla, glad to see just how right I was, this deck is great!
In an aggro deck Anger is a time walk .... well, kinda. Ok it's not but you get my point.
Just like charbelcher is the peoples cannon, Phil is the peoples hero
I try! The people need vods!
A fun counter to Tabernacle for decks like this is Gaea's Cradle out of the SB, lets you use 1 land to in essence blank Tabernacle
Daily thrabenU serotonin incoming!
Fantastic Video! The deck seems like it had many little lizardy legs!
Instant thumbs up because you unlocked a Core Memory(tm) with the Maiden reference
No avocado in the shot, immediately downvoted
Good lord this deck is like throwing bottle rockets in your opponent's window.

LOVE the intro!
GG! Very fun deck!
The MH2 card is Kitchen Imp, 2/2 flying haste with madness for B
LED... Good Magic card
I don’t play legacy, love watching your vids though. I’m slowly considering making a legacy deck and I blame you 😂
If nothing else, proxy up and the format with a friend! It's a blast!
The most dangerous phrases in the English language:
"This seems good"
"Siiiick"
Honestly only card I'd add is rite of initiation, its a t1 hand with just rootwalla effects and an anger
Oh wow, that card is potentially strong.
It's a line I used to run in a Cheerios list. 4 rootwalla, 1 anger, 1 rite, when your playing a deck that draws your whole deck in one turn pretty often it's a solid kill
Spicy.
You have to call this 8 Walla
8- Walla. Love it
Ah hell yeah I new Blazing Rootwalla would be sik in something.
Seems like Foundation Breaker would be a good addition to the board in this deck since you can find it off of OUaT
I ran into that in a Modern league yesterday in a Living End deck. It caught me off guard.
Feels like masked vandal would be better just given the graveyard synergy? Not sure
In honour of the other 8 decks in this fine game and the many species of lizards, I would like to start a petition to rename this deck 8-Lagac
Dammit Phil, just watched and then rushed to buy the cards to play this deck. With so many new cards and fun brews, I have no idea what I am going to try first.
You're welcome? It's a good problem to have. MH2 Legacy is so fun. Recording with all these crazy brews has made my summer.
I'm not really sure why this two year old video got recommended to me today (other than the fact that I watch A LOT of your videos), but I'm sure glad it did.
That one was a BANGER and I still remember it.
LEDs allow so many decks, sweet
Oh, absolutely. It's the "broken thing" behind a ton of archetypes.
Madness?? This. Is. Lizards!
This deck has SO many of my pet cards
34:50 why cast the Rootwalla with the Mountain over keeping up mana for say Daze if it was free anyway with the LED? Just worth considering to me lol
Other than LED most of the other cards are affordable on paper. Do you think there can be anyway around it in terms of replacing LED?
For a big tournament, I'd try to borrow them. For an FNN, you could replace it with another discard outlet and survive.
The deck is the epitome of brute force
100% It's a true aggro deck in Legacy, which is rare.
You sound like MagicAids, without overmemeing his voice :O
hooray
and you have similar thumbnail style thrabenu=magicaids - CONFIRMED
@@adamhofman7412 I respect the tin foil hat theories.
Hogaak might be nice here once you add more black creatures
Vintage decks do exactly that!
Is there a reason you didn't madness rootwalla on end step at 26:03? Not that it mattered but it didn't have to be summoning sick right?
There were two Vengevines in my graveyard. I wanted to play Rootwalla and Anje's Ravager in the same turn to bring them back.
@@ThrabenUniversity Oh, of course! I missed the main line hahaha
Anger is cute
iron maiden cover channel when?
Hmmmmmmmmm
Is it worth running a run afoul in the sideboard to deal with Marit lage and Emrakul or is the chance that you will end up discarding it mean it doesn't justify inclusion?
That's a solid option. I'm not sure if the deck needs it though. I think the plan against those decks is "kill them first."

Magus of the wheel, anger, diamond eye lion..
Add graves tablet for recursion
Wheel of Misfortune would probably be better than Magus, especially given how high the life totals are compared to the opponents'.
hmm seems kinda doable in modern even if the loss of LED is quite a deal
oh no it misses anger...
Modern only had blazing rootwalla. You miss out on 4 extra lizards!

Yeeting lizards into play
hey when i am on a budget and i could only afford 1 taiga and 1 badlands which lands would you play instead of the 2 duals?
Shocklands, probably. The fastlands might be fine too.
you could play brawn or wonder over anger if it seems weak
I think I'm more interested in trying the black madness cards next!
MH2 made MTG fun again where MH1 killed it
