  • Palestinian History, Sociology, Culture and Resistence | Oct. 8 - General presentation of course
Welcome to our online course on the 'History, Sociology, Culture, and Resistance of Palestine,' putting into practice the first activity born from a five-year cooperation agreement signed with Birzeit University, the most well-known educational institution in Palestine, headquartered in Ramallah (West Bank).
Contextualizing, the escalation of violence against the Palestinian people has spurred debate among students and faculty from various courses and projects at UFABC, particularly in the Bachelor's in International Relations (BRI), the Observatory of Brazil's Foreign Policy and International Insertion (OPEB), the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies (CEAI), and the Graduate Programs in World Political Economy (EPM) and International Relations (PRI).
In the search for effective means of showing solidarity with the Palestinian cause, the idea emerged to establish academic and scientific cooperation ties between UFABC and a Palestinian university. The aim is to unite efforts in combating the violence that, in the occupied Palestinian territories, also affects the education and research sectors, through dialogue and collaboration in various fields of knowledge.
The initiative moved forward, and on September 13, 2024, UFABC's Service Bulletin published the Cooperation Agreement, whose primary goal is to establish academic, scientific, and cultural cooperation with Birzeit University. Through future mobility and collaboration actions, both institutions will strive to build a strategic partnership on a permanent basis.
In this context, the present course was created, with the aim of promoting this academic-scientific exchange in the study of the history, sociology, culture, and resistance of Palestine, and it will be taught by faculty from UFABC’s new partner university, Birzeit. Enjoy!
This course is organized by the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, the Federal University of ABC, and Birzeit University. Additionally, it is supported by the Bachelor's in International Relations (BRI), the Graduate Program in International Relations (PRI), the International Relations Advisory Office (ARI), the Observatory of Brazil's Foreign Policy and International Insertion (OPEB), the International Relations Academic Center (CARI), the Graduate Program in World Political Economy (EPM), and the Office of Extension and Culture (ProEC).
In this first class, we are pleased to announce that we will have a general presentation of the course, an introduction to the history of Birzeit University and the current situation, as well as what has changed since October 2023. We will open with the presence of the International Relations Advisor of the Federal University of ABC, Prof. Dr. Dalmo Mandelli, along with Prof. Dr. Giorgio Romano, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Nadir, and our distinguished guests from Birzeit University: Najat Abdelhaq, Aboud Hamayel, and Lubna Abdelhadi. If you were unable to attend synchronously, the class will be available on our own platform. Don’t miss it!
