    I have been running ML on another EOS camera on my 6D and it was working flawlessly, I was a little worried on using it on my 5D mark ii because many people have reported that ML had killed their cameras, others say it works perfectly fine, and you have just confirmed it.
    This is perhaps the cleanest and straight to the point tutorial I have seen on RUclips, not only you covered the installation of the ML, on how to get a clean HDMI you also added on how to back up the original ROM. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

    Im glad somebody is willing to acknowledge that cameras under 700 bucks actually exist, i was going to get this camera for one to upgrade from my 50 buck chinese webcam, but to also have a camera i can use for actual filming projects. No, thank you. There are only like 3 or 4 videos that even talk about these cameras at all, everywhere else is territory of these pretentious wannabe professionals that use overly expensive equipment for jobs they could do equally well with their phones.
      Today where everyone wants to be a star they just use their equipment as status symbols to show off while actually only using 5% of the features they payed for. The worst is these people run so rampant, even when googling for "budget cameras" you only get articles and forum posts with cameras over 700 bucks, cause everyone buying these cameras pretends like there arent any usable cameras below that price.

    Thank you so much for this video! Clear, consise and no waffle. I wanted to avoid buying another webcam for streaming my sim rig, so giving my 550D a new lease of life was the idea and it's turned out perfectly! I did run into some issues before the ML stage, where it wanted me to reinstall firmware 1.09 (even though that was already the version). I ran through steps to do this on a 64Gb card, but it said it couldn't find the file, so on the ML forums someone suggested to put the firmware file on a smaller capacity card (I used 16Gb) and that did the trick! I was then able to install ML using the original 64Gb card with no problem.

Makes me wonder if someone messed with it because I bought it used. Edit: Watched the rest of the video and it turns out I had to be in Manual mode. Rookie mistake. I'd gotten a camera for my birthday and was wondering how to use the HDMI output from the camera, after getting the USB output working. After watching the video I installed this software just because it looked cool. My question is, what would you say is the advantage of using the HDMI output vs the USB? I'm still not 100% sure but I think my EOS 600D can do 1080p 60fps over the USB link, so I'm not sure the quality would be any different using HDMI. Is it just a case of whatever output type suits the situation best? For streamers I would imagine the USB link to be easier to use so I'm not quite sure then what problem this would solve, thats why I'm not quite sure about my USB output quality as I could imagine you'd want to use HDMI for good quality while the USB can be used more to do photos (instead of video). Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  4 месяца назад

      Although every camera is different, but most of the older versions have better HDMI Video Quality compared to the USB Video quality. Specially the ones that don't support USB 3.0. HDMI Signal not only carries high bit rate video, it also has better color quality, and video bit rate. However you need to have a video Capture card for the HDMI output, where as the USB output does not require any additional hardware. The type of your Video Capture card also has a big role in your video quality. I am using an elgato Camlink 4K and I am very happy with it.

  • @1solfilmclips732
    @1solfilmclips732 2 года назад +2

    CORRECTIONS, One, you do not need to backup your FIRMWARE, it's still there, Magic Lantern just runs beside it. Two, you can turn OFF the overlays (top/bottom bars) to get a 3x2 clean image, instead of a 16x9 with bars.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  2 года назад +1

      The firmware backup is a legal disclaimer required by Magic Lantern to release them from liability should there be any false claims. About turning off the overlay to get a clean 3x2 image is correct, but it's the same as cropping the image in post. You lose the top and bottom if you produce videos with 16:9 aspect ratio.

    Well I have a t2i and a t3i. The t3i was able to install the software but the quick double delete button doesn't bring up the 3rd party menu. I formatted and then tried to update the t2i with the 3rd party software (550D / Rebel T2i 1.0.9) and got an error telling me it's expecting a 550D which the camera is. Very mad at this situation, I wanted to use both cameras for streaming, bought extra cables & HDMI capture usb devices to get this going. You might want to remove t2i & t3i from the title (maybe confirm with others that this is an issue)

    Thanks so much for an immensely helpful video. Magic Lantern is totally worth it. All these years I've had a T3i... finally, no white focus box when testing streaming with OBS. Since I cannot get the EOS Webcam Utility working with my computer (OBS simply will not "see" the T3i as a video capture device-- even with the regular EOS Utility NOT running, even in the background), I had a couple options-- Digicam Control (DCC Webcam) -- the free software which works PERFECTLY (and seems to have a better framerate than the official EOS Webcam Utility)..... and, I bought a $20 HDMI to USB capture card, as the framerate is much faster/cleaner... but that damn white box, haha. If you turn off the auto focus on your Lens the square will disappear from the HDMI
    BUT the hdmi feed is cropped and MOST IMPORTANT is 1080i59, it's interlaced
    No matter what recording setting you set in the Rebel T4i
    I really hope you will talk about this in this video

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  2 года назад

      The reason why I didn't talk about this is, because this is not the case on all models. Some do support full HD output where as others only support low resolution outputs. Not to mention some have upper and lower black bars that you have to cut off in post production. I contacted Canon about this and they said the older video processing chips can't handle any higher work load, so it can't be fixed with a simple firmware update.

    • @Aniki82
      @Aniki82 2 года назад +1

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 yes but that interlaced output is really annoying
      I've no idea how this is dealt with when recording on a Ninja or external recorder...
      But i never ever recieved interlaced footage from a DSLR....
      I've the 650D and I'm using the Intensity Pro 4K (PCIE version)

      So ok it's possible to use Yadif deinterlace in OBS or whatever but this HDMI output
      is FAR FAR less good then the actual recording h264 from the 650D....

      5D is an excellent camera for video recording, however only if you record on it's internal Compact Flash Memory Card. If you use it for live broadcasting or recording on a PC using the HDMI out, then you will not get the full 1080P resolution. Also when recording video the Auto Focus will not work, so you have to manually focus constantly if your subject is moving.

I have clicked on record on the part to turn off automatically when stand by , on recording or recording and stand by, since I am just outputting the hdmi i click turn off on recording on Magic Lantern; meanwhile on the setting on the camera is never to shutdown the screen at all, so why I cannot have it running like using webcam utility for 2 hours or more...any help would be appreciated.

If you use the Mini USB port then you will need a still capture software such as CaptureOne to take still shots only. The camera will not be recognized as a webcam. No problem, and Yes I am using the same elgato USB to HDMI adapter but mine is the 4K version. Although I don't shoot at 4K I still like to have the ability to do so if need be. About the video size you need to make sure the capture or live-stream settings on your OBS matches that of your camera output, and you will never have to stretch the video to force it to fit the frame.

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thank you so much. For some reason, my Elgato program says it's capturing in 1080 at 30fps but OBS can only select 720. Not sure what the problem is. Looking for some answers online.

    How did you connect the HDMI to the computer? What software are you using for streaming?

      I am using a USB Video Capture card, and a Xsplit for broadcasting, I also use OBS which is Free for broadcasting. I made a complete video on my Video Setup here is the link if you are are interested in seeing it. ruclips.net/video/NnY-Zl1-WM4/видео.html

    Put your lens to manual mode. Keep pressing the info button until all informations are disabled... You are done with clean video...😁 I got it in my 6d

    It didn't work for me. I did step by step. I have Magic Lantern now on my canon and still dirty HDMI.

      Turn Off the Auto Focus, by the way Magic Lantern will not reside on your camera bios, once you remove the card it will default to the original Canon Firmware.

    Great video! I am able to see a nearly clean LCD display on my 5d mark ii, but I cannot get a clean view on OBS. I am using a Cam Link4k to connect. Any troubleshooting suggestions?

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 it was off. I discovered the problem. I needed to change the Clear Overlay function to “always”.

    This will not work on the 6D, it still has a border and the video does not fill the output.
