- "Le Casse" (or in the USA "The Burglars" and parts of Europe "Le Coup") is a crime-thriller about a couple of thieves who want to heist a gemstone from a collector home living in Athens. A movie, which was written and directed by Henri Verneuil (1971) Apart from Athens, the producers also shot in other Greek islands, including Piraeus and Corfu - and this car chase was shot in Piraeus.

Actor _Jean-Paul Belmondo_ , one of post-war French cinema's biggest stars
whose charismatic smile lit up the screen for half a century, has died
Adieu 'Bébel' R.I.P 🌹 🙏
You can see why the first Toyota Coronas were engineered from a Fiat 124.
Om shanti 😔🙏🪔
one of the best car chases of the 70s; along with The Seven Ups. The French Connection, What's Up Doc, Smokey and the Bandit, are all considered to be top 10 car chases of the 70s.
Vanishing Point 1971 beats all of the mentioned films.
Aint it awsome to look back and see Real driving in movies.
Back in the days where computer.generated.image.are alien/non-existent.yes it was SUPER-AWESOME !!!!
This must rank up there as one of the most epic car chase scenes ever in film
A master class of directing, fantastic stunt driving, location, filming and sound engineering.
SPECTACULAR car chase.drifting with those skinny rubber with steel wheels are just that: ANOTHER LEVEL of expertise.
Es mejor. Yo las he visto más veces
these two: racing and crashing into eachother
them just few minutes later:
-You know how fast were you going?
-oh sorry, im a foreigner.
I remember seeing this movie in a theatre when I was a kid. It was really fun to watch this on a large screen.
One of the Best car chase of all time
without doubt, the best that i've ever seen,
simply arrogant and ignorant, as it should be a real car chase!!!!
GRANDISSIMO BELMONDO!
Very nice vintage car chase and I like also the wonderful scenery! This one and Ronin's car chase, 2 of the best!
I think that this car chase is better than the one in bullitt

Well, actually the Rekord was not so compact. For Americans, if it's not massive, it's compact.
Ok
REAL TRAFFIC !Amazing!Bullitt:desert roads...
Every day i drive in this roads and i don't know for this movie.....now I see this movie...
APLAUSOS !!
The art of Remy Julienne
Thank you Mr. Ennio Morricone for that first rate soundtrack. Have it on vinyl and cd. RIP (from 976-CREOLEMAN)!
This was Bullitt-level stuff and then some. Well over 50 different shots all assembled by the unsung heroes behind all movies -- the editors. Very few botched takes requiring jump cuts too. And they had the sense to keep using the same model cars in every shot!
Great movie scene, the only problem is that the Fiat will easy outperform the Opel ,the Fiat had 95 hp ( fist version) the second version had 105 hp for only 950 kgs! the VW golf GTi years later only had 110 hp.....I guess that the Opel only had 65 hp for more than 1000kgs
I'm with you on that, my father had one and loved it. His friends in the likes of mini coopers were surprised!! Unfortunately the fiat rusted out I wonder how many of them still exist?
A Fiat 124 special T was the first car I drive 100 mph in, they were quite a fast car for the era.
Yes agreed but my dad had Opel commodore GS very powerful
@@jaychandran7858 I remember the commodore back in the 70's it was a complet different car from the one in the movie, it was a six cylinder and over here in Europe it was used in turism car racing.
Generally speaking Fiats of 60s and 70s were faster than most cars and could go toe to toe with BMWs. Sadly they were let down by quality issues and self-sabotage, starting with Fiat restricting Dino's and 130s engines and losing to BMW's 6 series on performance.
A mate had a Fiat 124 Special T saloon early 80s - body falling apart with rust, but fantastic engine and really quick!... much faster than your average Escort etc
FIAT 124 😎😍👍👌
At 2:44 the sign of the greek military dictatorship who was ruling Greece at the time of the filming,a soldier inside a phoenix bird that comes out of flames and the logo "21st of April"( 21 April 1967,when dictatorship occupied power).
@@claudiomondello3598 d'accordo
Actually its Piraeus not Athens.....It starts from the port and it finishes to St.Ilias Hill Kastella area also in Piraeus
not all the movie is filmed in Piraeus but between 06:07-06:45 it is in Athens area POLYGONO Vrillisou Street and between 07:08 - 07:17 Blessa Street again in POLYGONO at the end of the downhill is Vafeiochoriou Street the end of trolleybus No. 15.
Epic. I want to see this film.
on today's cars power steering is so light that you can actually drive it with your little finger, also a lot of bad plastic inside and outside, and also a lot of trouble and near-broken nervous system when you have to change only a light bulb on the car... when I drove grandfather's Lada I realized what a real car is. sadly, both (my grandfather and his Lada) are not with us anymore. :( as well as movies like Le Casse and actors like great Belmondo...
Jean Paul is still here, just slightly less powerful 😁
you said it man, right on.
I actually disabled the abs on my new car, but I still find myself driving my bmw 2002 cuz I can't stand power steering.
I miss my tii so much bro. I have a 535is now and it's great but.....
All those beautiful old cars from my childhood!
Great stunt driving !! Way ahead of its time ! The 70s brought much better stunt driving than today's. Nowadays are more tech, but earlier they were more realistic; except for Lethal Weapon IV which had amazing car chase sequences.
Crazy... American car chases usually feature muscle cars or big sturdy sedans that can take a bit of abuse. The euros did it with a tiny Fiat and an Opel. Not much leeway for the driver if something goes wrong.
That's the appeal of this chase scene. Average, almost mediocre cars being driven beyond their limits.
These were big sturdy sedans by European standards of the time...
American cars can't hold on corners like europeans and especially italian cars. The 124 was a reliable and fun to drive car with a small size engine from 1200 to maximum 1600 cc . Small size but responsive.
Of course i suppose it was difficult to find iconic or sport cars in Greece to make this chase?
As I remember it, except for the episodes with the stairs, it looked to me like normal Athens traffic.
Absolutely....Verneuil said he wanted to have a car chase better than in Bullitt , the way to do it was to film the cars in real athenian traffic.....Because in Bullitt, the streets are desert.
Love the movie. Thanks for the upload.
Amazing car chase scene. would love to know more about it.
Two world-class actors and two absolute mundane cars. Justin Lin, are you watching?

I love Belmondo movies.
RIP Belmondo
It is like "Bullit" on a budget!
R.I.P. Jean-Paul Belmondo
I sense that no city authorities were informed of this.
Some "extras" seemed genuinely startled.
Indeed, it looks like some scenes were filmed under non-controlled conditions. Greece was under dictatorship at that time, it just required to take approval from a high-ranking military officer and you could do anything. This makes these scenes even more breath-taking.
I live in Greece and i have to confirm that the authorities do nothing.they just try to make money from inocent people.i am 13 years old and 5 policemen came to me and nearly arrested me because i jumped a 4 stair in a private property on my bmx.the ironic thing is that 5 kids right next to me were trying to steal a car
@@vrozos I remember my holidays in the region of Olympus, I was surprised that many Greeks around were speaking fluent and pretty much complete Polish language. I asked some Greek do they learn it for tourists, and he said they learned it while living in Poland as refugees after the military coup. I myself learned some ancient Greek during my studies. I don't speak it anymore, but I remember the sound, I think Greek is one of the most beatiful languages that exist.
@@SparrowNoblePoland There is a mistake.Greeks who refugiated in ex-communist countries, incuding Poland, did it after the Greek civil war in 1949,most of them being communists and partizans of EAM (Hellenic resistance movement during WWII attached to communist party). After the install of the military regiment in 1967 (widely known as junta),some Greeks refugiated in Western Europe (France,UK,Sweden,Italy etc).
They were very informed about this film, the regime just told the producers to be very careful in the streets, they didn't want to cause an accident.
Best car chase ever!BAR NONR

very good, but initial location is in fact Piraeus - though I've worked there in 91-92, the embankment was pretty the same then...

This Fiat 124 has grill and lamps from 125p and front indicators from 125.
Edit: I did not know that this is what the 124 looks like in the Special T version.
I read in title video "fiat 147"
Another classic car chase: Bullitt!
Belmondo speaking German ... priceless
You can see 'Italian Job' influence. Even the continuity errors don't diminish the excitement
Piraeus 70's !
those shitboxes are dangerous & hard to drive fast. These guys were Real Drivers. One of them was Jean-Paul Belmondo himself, one of very few actors then or now with Balls.
Τhe othe was another actor Alekos Tzanetakos who was also taking part in car races.
not really. The 124 was a well-balanced car. The Opel however was a GM car and quite primitive, so really not the right thing for a chase. I guess they were trying to say the poor cop did well with what he was given.
My grandfather drives the FIAT 124 and we are Greek and Rémy Julienne drives the OPEL....Many people mistakenly believe that Rémy Julienne drives the FIAT 124 but it was actually my grandfather who was a stuntman back at the time.
I was 11 years old when I experienced the scene live at 7:09 because the shooting took place in the neighborhood where I was born. unrepeatable, magical !!!!! but i think Belmondo was driving alfa romeo but it would probably be in the test shots

can you ask him if he was in Athens area POLYGONO in some scenes?
Better than Bullitt
More realistic with the traffic and not 17 beetle on the street. I like this chase more but Bullitt had the nice charger.
