I has some magnifiers. My grandpa had a big and heavy 2x that he used for newspaper reading.
As a police detective, a standard French MAPED 3x is enough for most applications, as check fake money, documents, maps, crime scene pictures, gun serial numbers or vehicle motor/frame numbers. The "Sherlock Holmes" style is useless for me, but was the my grandpa's choice for reading.

Shows how no two magnifiers are the same. I can imagine how overwhelming and confusing they can be to someone who’s never used one before.

    Thanks!
Choosing a magnifying glass is a real puzzle for me. My problem is the visual field, which is only 4 degrees, then photophobia. So I use electronic magnifiers to adjust the contrast and also to invert the colors and thus be able to read and write...

I have taken up painting by numbers as a hobby, I already wear glasses & would love to know if I bought, maybe one of the headband magnifiers if they'd be of any use to me. If I've magnified the area I'm painting, the paintbrush would be magnified too, wouldn't it? I just don't know how that would help me. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks for the awesome, informative yet short video, especially for the suggestion for not buying the page magnifiers . i was almost about buy one for my grandpa, who loves reading but is facing problems due to age related complicacies. Can you please suggest a good magnifier, which can be used for reading books at length, preferably handsfree (??)....difficult to hold those for an extended time. Are the bar magnifiers by Carson (~6" length) a good one for book reading? Please do let me know!

Depending on the level of bang vacation needed, you might find some lighted floor stand magnifiers helpful. They are adjustable, can sit right next to a chair and provide good light for reading. however, they tend to not be strong enough for some users.

I prefer the rectangular magnifying because to me it is better than reading text and also like you said in the video the smaller the magnifier is the more magnification that you get I recommend the small magnifying of the smallest magnifier

Recently, I bought a German Eschenbach rectangular magnifier (2,5x) in an auction. It came in a lot of "desk drawer items", with ruler, calculator and other minor gadgets. I paid about USD 8 by this lot. Later, I was wondered that this German magnifier costs today, in newer versions, about USD 85!
This magnifier (probably from 1970's) is excellent. Perfect for smartphone screen (no distortions) or medicine labels.
Chinese magnifiers, advertised as more powerful, are weaker and has many distortions. Cheaper brands often does not has the magnifying power as advertised.

Whenever I have purchased from MaxiAids, they have asked me to pay twice. Do not do it. On the other hand they are the only site to carry a white wooden cane. I like the cane better than the whisker canes for my level of vision. If you have the money the video magnifiers are the best by far.

I don’t know if you’re still tracking comments on this video, in case you happen to be, my question is why are there so many magnifying glasses on Amazon that say 30 X and 40 X magnification, is that just false advertisement

I cant find a magnifier bigger than 30x. Is this the biggest?

    • @theblindlife
      @theblindlife  2 года назад +1

Actually 12 X is generally the largest you can find. If it’s labeled 30 X, it probably isn’t anywhere near that strong.

@@theblindlife thanks I'll try that. My mom has glaucoma. She cant read her mail. The 30x magnifying glass helps. I'll try that 12x though.

the page magnifier has never worked for me the bar magnifiers never worked for me either and that is something they kept throwing at me in school they even threw some oval look at magnifiers at me that you put on top of the paper and move across words and it did not even magnify at all magnifiers that you buy in a regular store don't even work for me I'm at a loss of where to find something that will work in my situation I've been to the doctor and they recommended things for me but I don't even know where to find any of the stuff they recommended because I'm not all that good with all this low vision stuff because I really didn't have the opportunity to have the right kind of equipment whenever I was little even though I was born with this problem,so now that I'm an adult I'm more lost than ever at the saint with things. I've got a question for you about the TalkBack feature plus the voice over feature to I'm actually in the process of trying to find a new phone that would work for me and I need some help and some advice on what to do with here if you could please message me back either on here or possibly on Facebook because I believe that I messaged you that way before by the way this is Heather Marie Aucoin it says Joshua in the back of my name only because we share this RUclips channel the way I wrote my name though is how you could find it on messenger and on the other page that I mentioned that the thing I just mentioned is apart of he's also got vision problems, but nowhere near as bad as mine though I'm sorry for the message not making sense if it don't I've been having problems with my voice features on this phone and its really irking my nerves in away too I don't know if it's because of my accent due to the fact that I'm Cajun and it might not understand me and that I'm from down south Louisiana or what, but it messes up things alot and I'm not sure if it messed up on this message or not,but I hear that from people a lot so I'm just giving you the heads-up just in case it did that thanks for understanding my situation and I hope you're able to help me out here.

I have had clients that use the page magnifier to view photographs. I had a 99 year old that was thrilled to use one to show me her birthday pictures and she uses a 5x mag. So in some instances they do provide some folks with some enjoyment.
