Sorry I missed your call. It's basically just me right now (...and at the doctor's half the day yesterday). I've recently brought on another retired SSA employee but she was traveling yesterday. I returned about 30 calls today. Sorry I missed yours. Do me a favor, give me a call tomorrow after 3pm. If I don't pick up, I'll see the number and call you right back. Thanks again, Ed Weir
@ thank you, will I need to provide SSA with any documentation regarding my ex passing? Do I need to apply for the survivor benefit? How long does the process take? Yes, all the qualifications are met.
I am 65 now and still working. I can’t afford to quit working. I have to work as long as I am able. I was told at 67 1/2 I can file on my ex’s and get half of his and not be penalized for what I earn. Then I can file for mine at 70. Is this correct? I’ve also heard I could file for mine at 67 1/2 and not be penalized for working. If so, why would I file for half of ex spouse’s instead of my own? Is it to build line up or would mine continue increasing if I filed for mine at 67 1/2. Sorry I al not good at communicating.
born in 1960 and above FRA (Full Retirement Age) is 67 .. born before that your FRA is even earlier. No 1/2 stuff needed after 67 - www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/agereduction.html
My ex husband didn’t have enough credits to receive his own benefits. He lost his original decree in all the moving he did, and he never had an original copy of our marriage license. I had to send him copies of the originals I had, and they excepted those to start issuing him spousal benefits. So they might except copies.
Several of my questions were answered in this video. I was married for 27 years. Divorced for 5 years then re-married. I have been told that if I had not re-married until I was 60, I would qualify, but since I was under 60 I am disqualified?

I applied for IEDS recently at the local SS Office, I have been drawing little monthly benefits from Social Security , however I am retired DoD employee under the CSRS she under the DoD FERS, It’s on hold because of offset situation because of our Government retirements? What does have to do with Social Security System?

To collect social security spousal benefits if you’re divorced, if you want to get the full retirement benefit, do you have to wait until they’re full retirement age, or can you get it now. Also, as a divorced spouse, do you only get half of their fte benefit?

They will never know unless you tell them. Documents have to come directly from the issuing agency. But file first and the SSA employee will tell you what you need.
Is this divorce benefit only for women or can a man also claim this benefit if the divorce was initiated by the woman or can each make a claim regardless of who filed for the divorce?
Hello, man or woman, doesn't matter. It depends which benefit is higher (who made the most over 35 years). Who initiated the divorce doesn't matter as well. Just had to have been married 10 years or more. Hope this helps, Ed
Do you have anyone that speaks spanish my mom is getting the wrong info, to the point of the ss represantative to tell her figure it out with your ex and refusing to provide his amount she is entitled to, what can she do and talk to?
I was married to my ex for 14 (fourteen) years. I remarried when I was 59, but that marriage did not work out. Am I still eligible to collect on my first ex's social security benefit? I was told I will not qualify because I remarried before age 60. Is that true?
@@MyGovExpert Thank you so much for getting back to me. The SSA website says if I get divorced or if the current spouse passes before me, then I would qualify. Is that accurate, please? Thank you.
Yes, for IEDS. I recorded a short video answering your question in detail. It should come out later this week. Hope that helps and thanks for watching! Ed
You'll pretty much have to file a claim. But the easiest way is to call 800-772-1213 and ask SSA what the benefit amount is and ask them if there's any more money that you can get

If an ex-wife is drawing a spousal benefit (50% of ex-spouses benefit) and the ex-spouse dies, does the ex-wife need to file to get the 100% survivor benefit or will social security automatically make the adjustment? SS should have all the info and know that the ex-wife is now entitled to the full 100% survivor benefit.

If you don't draw yours until age 70, you'd get the delayed retirement credits. Take the IEDS benefits at FRA or 67.5.

They probably used your statements of your marriage and divorce when you filed for benefits as proof.

By law, in my State of Iowa, they have to have someone in the SSA Office who speaks Spanish.
How long would someone have to be married to get death benefits is that still also 10-year period?
Generally nine months
What If You Are Disabled ?
That doesn't matter. Same rules still apply. Both of you have to be 62. Had to have been married 10 years. Divorced at least 2 years.
They told me that she don't get enough for me to get half
That might change as a surviving spouse

Can I collect (half of) his when I am 62 and I still work full time? Then later (age 67)collect mine if it is more?
You have to be collecting on your own record first.
This is disgusting smh

He still works making good money. I get united health care and medicare. What else can I qualify for? I need a place to rent but have to stay here with alcoholic I hate it and need out.
Your ex didn't earn much, is that "good money" under the table? Collect at 62 also affect your rate.
If you're on that record as an exspouse it will automatically convert to a surviving exspouse. You don't have to do anything.
Does yourex. Have to be 62. Also
Yes, please check out my brand new video on spousal benefits.
