WOW, can't believe it's been 40 years I was fortunate to see Tsunami race a few times and it was a very well designed racer with potential sad ending for a beautiful plane. Building something like Tsunami takes a long time and usually years to make it competitive Tsunami was born ready to race. Blue Skys John
I have a still shot of her in the silver/blue scheme from Reno '89. It's attached to a picture of the "BEAR". Tsunami had engine problems that year and just could not get them worked out. Good looking "home built", such a loss of man & machine.
+@Mr572u Tsunami is being rebuilt. Although Reno has announced the races are stopping until they can find a new race location and move from Stead Airport.
@@jamesbottger5894 I didn't think so . I think I saw a Spitfire nose over on take off. The thing went inverted and the dihedral seemed to be noticeably greater upside down. Looks like the spar bent. Not sure it would stand the G's in the turns. That's scary!
thank god for people who have the good sense to record these seemingly unspecial moments.

I remember being on the Valley of Speed, as a 4 year old in '91, memories of this bird are still etched in my mind!
My first year at the races!, Rare Bear, Strega?, Tsunami 1,2,3. Best race ever.
This is an AWESOME video. I love Tsunami! Thanks for sharing this!
She was a beautiful airplane...
Tsunamis prop sounds wicked approaching.

Tom Eierdal No sir, Tsunami was a purpose built racer en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsunami_Racer
I understand it isn't. It resembles one.
It IS NOT a modified P-51. It was built on the P-51 concept.
It crashed..Game over..

Looks like a highly modified Spitfire.
WTH? It looks nothing like a Spit...
@@jamesbottger5894 Why aren't Spitfire being raced? Aren't they fast enough?
@@charleswesley3642 No

@@charleswesley3642 I do think a modified Spit could challenge Rare Bear's climb record though....

+Tuzon Thume nigga, are you blind
+James Clarke lol

The H variants were fast.
